2 I. GENERAL OPERA TION • Read, understand, and f ollow all instructions in the manual and on the machine bef ore star ting. • Only allow responsib le adults, who are f amiliar with the in struc tions, to operate the machine. • Clear the area of objects such as rocks , toys , wire, etc.

6 INST ALL SEA T (See Fig. 2) Adjust seat bef ore tightening adjustment bolt. • Remov e adjustment bolt, lock w asher and fl at washer se cur ing seat to cardboard packing and set aside f or as sem bly of seat to tr actor . • Pivot seat upward and remo ve from the cardboard pac k - ing.

11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age . Always wear saf ety glass es or eye shields while op- erating y our tractor or per form ing any adjustments or repairs.
12 ADD GASOLINE • Fill fuel tank to bottom of fi ller neck. Do not ov erfi ll. Use fresh, clean, regular un lead ed gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead o xide deposits and reduce valv e lif e).
13 OPERA TION MO WING TIPS • Mower should be properly lev eled f or best mowing per- fo r mance. See “T O LEVEL MOWER HOUSING” in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this manual. • The left hand side of mower should be used f or trim- ming.
14 MAINTENANCE BEFORE EACH USE T R A C T 0 R Inspect Muffler/Spark Arrester Lubrication Chart Check Brake Operation Clean Air Filter Change Engine Oil (with oil filter) Replace Air Filter Paper Cartri.
15 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 10) • Raise mower to highest position to allo w access to blades . • Remo ve b lade bolt, lock washer and fl at washer se- cur ing blade. • Install new or reshar pened blade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as shown.
16 MAINTENANCE V- B E L T S Check V -belts f or deter ioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able . Re place belts if they begin to slip from w ear. TRANSAXLE COOLING K eep transaxle free from build-up of dirt and chaff which can restrict cooling.
17 MAINTENANCE CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from ov erheating. Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubborn dr ied gum fi bers.
18 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e ver y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.
19 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS W ARNING: T O A VIOD SE RI OUS IN JU R Y , BEFORE PERFORMING ANY SER VICE OR ADJUSTMENTS: • Depress clutc h/brake pedal fully and set parking brake. • Place gearshift lever in neutral (N) position. • Place attachment c lutch in “DISENGA GED” position.

23 INTERLOCKS AND RELA YS Loose or damaged wiring may cause y our tractor to run poorly , stop r unning, or prev ent it from star ting. • Chec k wiring. See electrical wir ing diagram in the Repair P ar ts section. T O REPLA CE FUSE Replace with 20 amp automotive-type plug-in fuse .
24 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Ne ver store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
25 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” proper ly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se veral min utes before attempting to star t. 4. Bad spar k plug.
26 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS PROBLEM CA USE CORRECTION Engine continues to run 1. F aulty operator-safety presence control system. 1. Check wiring, switches and connections . If not when operator leaves corrected, contact an authorized service center/ seat with attachment depar tment.
