Abou t the IE -iMcV-E 1-Mux/4 Overvi ew The IE-iMcV-E1 -Mux/4 is a me dia converter t hat transp orts four indepe ndent E1 lines over an existing s ingle (o r dual, “ 1+1 ”) standard 155Mbps-capable f iber optic line operating at an effective rate of 150M bps.
• Local CLI management console port on a Mini Jack connector • Remote management capability through iMe diaChassis series • AIS generation on signal l oss on all E1 inte rfaces • SNMP Alarm .
• Optional SFP port for optical 1+1 protection. • One Mini Jack se rial RS-232 serial console port • One user serial RS -232 data port (RJ-45) The IE-iMc V-E1-Mux/4 is e asily con figured by u sing the serial console port connecti on or through an SNMP managemen t applicati on such as i View².
iView² Ma nagement Software iView² is the I MC Netw orks ma nagement software that fea tures a GU I and give s network ma nagers the abi lity to monito r and contr ol manageable IMC Ne tworks product s. iView² is available in seve ral versions, inclu ding WebServer version 3.
LED Operation The I E-iM c V-E1 -Mu x/4 fea tur es dia gnost ic LED s as explained below. 10/100BaseT C onnector LNK: • OFF when port is not linke d/connected • Glows green when link is establis.
E1 RJ-48 Connectors ALARM : • OFF during normal operation • Blinks red+green simultaneously when CV er ro rs d et ect ed o n the E 1 line at far end of the optical line • Glows red+gre en when.
Connector Pinout and DIP Switch Assignments DIP Swit ch Assignm ents A single 10-pos ition DIP Swit ch is located on the unit to se t the config uration.
10/100Ba seT Etherne t Mating Conne ctor Pinout The fo llowing tabl e lists th e pin config ur ation for the standard RJ-45 Ethernet connector. Pin Signal 1 Transmit + 2 Transmit - 3 Receive + 4 Non.
RS-232 Port Mating C onnector Pinout The following table lists the pin configuration for the RS-232 port mating connector. Pin Signal 1 None 2 None 3 None 4 Signal Ground 5 Receive Data ( in to unit.
Installat ion Inst ructions Each IE-iMcV-E1 -Mux/4 module requ ires tw o adjacent slots in an iMe diaChassis or MediaChassis. To install t he module in a c hassis, remove t he blank faceplates covering the slots where the module is to be installe d.
Configu ration Opt ions The following sections describe the configurabl e features. Use the "default" comman d to restore the unit's default settin gs. This restores the card's defa ult configurati on and rese ts the defa ult username and pas sword.
FX Link Loss (FXLL) FX LinkLoss is a link integrity m onitoring fe ature that forwards fi ber link faults to the RJ-45 DATA por t to indicate t hat a fiber link fa ult has occurred.
Loopback Each E1 port can be te sted in loopback mode by enabling either a Host l oopback or Remote loopback test pa th. This capability all ows the end-user to hel p troubleshoot and isola te syste m pr oblems su ch as im pr oper/broken line terminations, cables or malfunctioning equipment.
Console Screen s Configur ation Using the Console Por t The following section describes configurat io n using the console screens. The Remote module is only config ured thro ugh the Host.
Menu O pti ons 1 = Refer to the Unit Co nfigur ation Scr een 2 = Refer to the Port Alar m Stat us screen 3 = Refer to the SFP Line Status screen; SFP DDMI alarms are also displaye d 4 = Refer to th.
Unit Co nfigurat ion Scre en Th e unit conf igurat ion scr een displays the names of the H ost and Remote uni ts as well as the service state, whether fiber protection is enabled and the SFP BER alarm level. In addition, the unit time can be set from this screen and the username and password can be set/reset.
SFP Line Status Screen The SFP Line Status screen displays the status of the Host and Re mote SFP links. The de tai le d SFP information may be vie wed by entering "1" for SFP A or "2" for SFP B. Displayed data includes the ma nufacturer name, code, part number an d revision number.
Ethernet Port Configu ration Scre en The screen displays the current values for items 1 through 9 for both the Host and Remote site. Enter th e number of the menu item to change its co nfigur ation, and then enter th e new val ue(s) when promp ted.
E1 Port Configurat ion Screen Use this screen to access the l oopback and na me details for each of t he four E1 ports. Enter th e number of the menu item to ed it, and enter the new value( s) when pro mpted.
E1 Port Status S creen Use this screen to display the current status for each of the f our E1 ports for the Host and Remote uni ts. Enter th e number of the menu item to ed it, and enter the new value( s) when pro mpted.
Trouble shoot ing • All IE-iMc V-E1-Mux/4 unit s are ship ped config ured as Host units via DIP Switch #1 = OFF. The Remote un it should be set to DIP Switch #1 = ON. Be su re to confirm t hat the IE- iMcV-E1-Mux /4 card is set corr ectly when used.
Fiber Op tic Port Verification As a tro uble shoo ti ng aid , the f iber opt ic por ts can be ver if ied by plac ing a phys ica l loopback optical line on the por ts and verify the LED behavior as shown: The AC T LED will arbitr arily be con figured to e ither the A or B fibe r line.
E1 Port Verification By placing a physical l oopback connection on the E1 port, a valid signal can be detected by ea ch indivi dual E1 port to ve rify its o peration.
Norma l Ope ration Under normal operation th e following LED disp lay i s give n: E1 E1 E1 E1 E1 E1 E1 E1 10/100B aseT 10/10 0BaseT RS-232 RS-232 GREEN STAT GREEN ACT, LNK, MSA GREEN LNK.
Fiber Op tic Cleaning Guidelines Fiber Optic tran smitters an d receivers are e xtremely susce ptible to contamination by particles of d irt or dust, which can obst ruct the optic path and cause p erformance degradation. Good system performance re quires clean optics an d connector ferrules.
El ectro stati c Dis charg e Preca uti ons Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can cause dama ge to any product, add- in module s or stand alone units, containing ele ctronic components. Al ways observe the following precauti ons when installi ng or handlin g these kinds of prod ucts 1.
