English – 11 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Some terms that describe the bar and chain T o maintain the safety f eatures of the cutting equipment, you should replace a worn or damaged bar or chain with a bar and chain combinations recommended by Jonsered.
12 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS It is v er y difficult to shar pen a chain correctly without the r ight equipment. W e recommend that you use our file gauge. This will help you obtain the maxim um kickback reduction and cutting perf or mance from your chain.
English – 13 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS T ension the chain as tightly as possible , but not so tight that you cannot pull it round freely b y hand. • Undo the bar nuts that hold the clutch cov er/chain brake. Use the combination spanner . Then tighten the bar nuts by hand as tight as y ou can.
14 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS • Check that the g roove in the edge of the bar is clean. Clean if necessar y . • Check that the bar tip sproc ket turns freely and that the lubricating hole in the tip sprocket is not b lock ed. Clean and lubricate if necessar y .
English – 15 ASSEMBL Y Fitting the bar and c hain Check that the chain br ake is in disengaged position b y moving the front hand guard to wards the front handle. Remov e the bar nuts and remov e the clutch cov er (chain brak e). T ak e off the transpor tation ring (A).
16 – English FUEL HANDLING Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-strok e engine and must alwa ys be r un using a mixture of petrol and two-stroke oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mix ed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
English – 17 FUEL HANDLING Fuelling Clean the area around the fuel cap . Clean the fuel and chain oil tanks regularly . The fuel filter must be replaced at least once a year . Contamination in the tanks causes malfunction. Make sure the fuel is w ell mixed b y shaking the container bef ore refuelling.
18 – English ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Starting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brake m ust be engaged when the chain saw is started. Activate the br ake by mo ving the front hand guard f orwards. Ignition; choke: Slide the control to its rear position.
English – 19 ST AR TING AND ST OPPING • Ne ver star t a chain saw unless the bar , chain and all cov ers are fitted correctly . See instructions under the heading Assembly . Without a bar and chain attached to the chain saw the clutch can come loose and cause serious injur y .
20 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Bef ore use: 1 Check that the chain br ake works correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the throttle loc kout works correctly and is not damaged. 3 Check that the stop s witch wor ks correctly and is not damaged.
English – 21 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES 7 T ake great care when cutting a tree that is in tension. A tree that is in tension ma y spr ing back to its normal position bef ore or after being cut. If you position y ourself incorrectly or make the cut in the wrong place the tree ma y hit you or the machine and cause y ou to lose control.
22 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES 8 T ake great care when y ou cut with the top edge of the bar , i.e. when cutting from the underside of the object. This is known as cutting on the push strok e. The chain tries to push the chain saw bac k towards the user .
English – 23 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Cutting The log is lying on the gr ound . There is little r isk of the chain jamming or the object splitting. Howe ver there is a risk that the chain will touch the ground when y ou finish the cut. Cut all the wa y through the log from abov e.
24 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Once you ha ve decided which w ay y ou want the top of the tree to f all you must assess which w ay the top of the tree would f all naturally .
English – 25 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Finish the f elling cut parallel with the directional cut line so that the distance between them is at least 1/10 of the trunk diameter . The uncut section of the trunk is called the felling hinge. The f elling hinge controls the direction that the tree falls in.
26 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES How to a void kic kback What is kic kback? The word kic kback is used to describe the sudden reaction that causes the chain saw and bar to jump off an object when the upper quadrant of the tip of the bar , known as the kickbac k zone , touches an object.
English – 27 MAINTENANCE General The user must only carry out the maintenance and ser vice work described in this manual. Carb urettor adjustment Due to e xisting environmental and emissions legislation y our chain saw is equipped with mo vement limiters on the carburettor adjuster scre ws.
28 – English MAINTENANCE Correctly adjusted carb urettor When the carb urettor is correctly adjusted the machine accelerates without hesitation and 4-cycles a little at full throttle. It is also impor tant that the chain does not rotate at idle. If the L-jet is set too lean it ma y cause star ting difficulties and poor acceleration.
English – 29 MAINTENANCE • Star t the chain saw and apply full throttle. Release the throttle control and check that the chain stops and remains stationar y . If the chain rotates when the throttle control is in the idle position you should chec k the carburettor idle adjustment.
30 – English MAINTENANCE Starter Changing a br oken or worn starter cord • Loosen the screws that hold the starter against the crankcase and remov e the star ter . • Pull out the cord appro x. 30 cm and hook it into the notch in the rim of the pulley .
English – 31 MAINTENANCE Air filter The air filter must be regularly cleaned to remov e dust and dir t in order to av oid: • Carburettor malfunctions • Star ting problems • Loss of engine power • Unnecessar y wear to engine par ts. • Excessive fuel consumption.
32 – English MAINTENANCE Adjustment of the oil pump The oil pump is adjustab le. Adjustments are made by turning the screw using a scre wdriver or combination spanner .
