English – 5 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Chain brake and front hand guar d Y our chain saw is equipped with a chain br ake that is designed to stop the chain immediately if you get a kic kback. The chain brak e reduces the risk of accidents, but only y ou can pre vent them.

8 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Grasp the chain sa w fir mly , wr apping your fingers and thumbs around the handles. Apply full throttle and activate the chain br ake b y tilting your left wrist forw ard onto the front hand guard. Do not let go of the front handle.
English – 9 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Muffler Ne ver use a machine that has a f aulty muffler . Regularly check that the muffler is securely attached to the machine. If the muffler on y our machine is fitted with a spark arrestor mesh this must be cleaned regularly .
10 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Chain A chain is made up of a number of links, which are a v ailable in standard and low-kic kback v ersions. Combining these links in diff erent wa ys giv es diff erent degrees of kic kback reduction. In ter ms of kickbac k reduction alone, f our diff erent types of link are av ailable.
English – 11 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • A shar p chain eats its wa y through the wood and produces long, thick cuttings . • The cutting par t of the chain is called the cutting link and this consists of a cutting tooth (A) and the rak er lip (B). The cutting depth is determined by the difference in height between the two .
12 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS General advice on setting raker c learance • When you sharpen the cutting teeth you reduce the rak er clearance (=cutting depth). T o maintain optimal cutting perf or mance you m ust file back the rak er lip to the recommended height.
English – 13 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Lubricating cutting equipment Chain oil Chain oil must demonstrate good adhesion to the chain and also maintain its flow characteristics regardless of whether it is warm summer or cold winter weather .
14 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Checking wear on cutting equipment Check the chain daily f or: • Visible cr acks in rivets and links . • Whether the chain is stiff . • Whether rivets and links are badly worn. W e recommend you compare the e xisting chain with a ne w chain to decide how badly the e xisting chain is worn.
English – 15 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Kickbac k alwa ys occurs in the cutting plane of the bar . Normally the chain saw and bar are thrown bac kwards and upwards to wards the user . How e ver , the chain saw ma y mov e in a diff erent direction depending on the wa y it was being used when the kickbac k zone of the bar touched the object.
16 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS 8 F ollow the instructions on shar pening and maintaining your bar and chain. When you replace the bar and chain use only combinations that are recommended by us . See instructions under the headings Cutting equipment and T echnical data.
English – 17 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • Obser ve y our surroundings and mak e sure that there is no risk of people or animals coming into contact with the cutting equipment. • Place the chain saw on the g round and hold the rear handle down with y our right foot.
18 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • T ake great care when remo ving small branches and av oid cutting bushes (i.e . cutting many small branches at the same time). Small branches can be grabbed b y the chain and thrown bac k at you, causing serious injury .
English – 19 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS T wo factors decide whether the chain will jam or the object that you are cutting will split: the first is how the object is suppor ted before and after cutting, and the second is whether it is in tension. In most cases you can a v oid these problems b y cutting in two stages; from the top and from the bottom.
20 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS T ree f elling technique Safe distance The saf e distance between a tree that is to be f elled and any one else working nearby is at least 2 1/2 tree lengths . Make sure that no-one else is in this ”risk zone” before or during felling.

This line should be perf ectly horizontal and at right angles (90 ° ) to the chosen f elling direction. Felling cut The f elling cut is made from the opposite side of the tree and it must be perf ectly horizontal.

24 – English ASSEMBL Y Fitting the bar and chain Check that the chain br ake is in disengaged position b y moving the front hand guard to wards the front handle. Remov e the bar nuts and remo ve the clutch co v er (chain brak e). T ak e off the transpor tation ring (A).
English – 25 FUEL HANDLING Fuel CA UTION! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engine and must alwa ys been r un using a mixture of petrol and two- stroke engine oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mix ed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
26 – English FUEL HANDLING Chain oil • The chain lubrication system is automatic and we recommend the use of special oil (chain oil) with good adhesion characteristics. • In countries where no special chain oil is av ailable , EP90 transmission oil can be used.
English – 27 ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Star ting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brak e must be engaged when the chain saw is started. Activ ate the brak e by mo ving the front hand guard f orwards. Ignition: Slide the ignition s witch to the left.
28 – English ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Reactivate the chain br ake b y pushing the front hand guard back to wards the front handle . The chain sa w is no w ready for use.
English – 29 MAINTENANCE Carb urettor adjustment The carburettor can be designed in diff erent w ays , depending on e xisting environmental and emissions legislation. Some chain saws are equipped with mo vement limiters on the carburettor’ s adjuster screws.
30 – English MAINTENANCE Low speed jet L T ur n the low speed jet L clockwise until it stops . If the engine accelerates poorly or idles unev enly , tur n the low speed jet L anticlockwise until good acceler ation and idling are achiev ed.
English – 31 MAINTENANCE Fine adjustment When the machine has been ”run-in” the carb urettor should be finely adjusted. The fine adjustment should be carried out by a qualified person. First adjust the L-jet, then the idling screw T and then the H-jet.
32 – English MAINTENANCE Star ter Changing a broken or w orn star ter cord • Loosen the screws that hold the starter against the crankcase and remov e the starter. • Pull out the cord appro x. 30 cm and hook it into the notch in the rim of the pulley .
English – 33 MAINTENANCE • The filter can be cleaned more thoroughly by w ashing it in water and detergent. An air filter that has been in use f or a long time cannot be cleaned completely . The filter must theref ore be replaced with a new one at regular intervals .
34 – English MAINTENANCE Cooling system T o keep the working temperature as low as possib le the machine is equipped with a cooling system. The cooling system consists of: 1 Air intake on the starter . 2 Air guide plate. 3 Fins on the flywheel. 4 Cooling fins on the cylinder .
