GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 6 – English Bef ore using a new c hain saw • Please read this manual carefully . • Check that the cutting equipment is correctly fitted and adjusted. See instructions under the heading Assembly . • Refuel and star t the chain saw .

GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English • The chain brake (A) can either be activ ated manually (by y our left hand) or automatically by the inertia release mechanism.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 of the front hand guard, the chain brake can only be activated b y the iner tia action. Will m y hand always activ ate the chain brake during a kickbac k? No . It takes a certain force to mov e the hand guard forw ard.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English chain saw , including the cutting equipment, is insulated from the handles by vibration damping units . Cutting hardwoods (most broadleaf trees) creates more vibration than cutting softwoods (most conif ers).
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 gaug e clearance. T oo large a clearance increases the risk of kickback. • Keep the chain pr operly tensioned! If the chain is slack it is more lik ely to jump off and lead to increased wear on the bar , chain and drive sproc ket.

GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 13 • Alwa ys file cutting teeth from the inside face . Reduce the pressure on the return stroke. File all the teeth on one side first, then turn the chain saw over and file the teeth on the other side. • File all the teeth to the same length.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 14 – English • Raise the tip of the bar and stretch the chain by tightening the chain tensioning screw using the combination spanner . Tighten the chain until it does not sag from the underside of the bar . • Use the combination spanner to tighten the bar nuts while lifting the tip of the bar at the same time.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 15 • Check that the groo ve in the edge of the bar is clean. Clean if necessary . • Check that the bar tip sproc ket turns freely and that the lubricating hole in the tip sprocket is not b locked. Clean and lubricate if necessar y .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 16 – English • Whether the tip of the bar is unev en or badly worn. If a hollow f orms on the underside of the bar tip this is due to running with a slack chain. • T o prolong the life of the bar you should turn it over daily .
ASSEMBL Y English – 17 Fitting the bar and chain Chec k that the chain brak e is in disengaged position by moving the front hand guard tow ards the front handle. Remov e the bar nuts and remov e the clutch cover (chain brake). T ake off the transportation r ing (A).
FUEL HANDLING 18 – English Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engine and must alwa ys been run using a mixture of petrol and two-stroke oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mixed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
FUEL HANDLING English – 19 • In temperatures below 0 ° C (32 ° F) some oils become too viscous. This can o verload the oil pump and result in damage to the oil pump components. • Contact your service agent when choosing chain oil. Fuelling Clean the area around the fuel cap .
ST ARTING AND ST OPPING 20 – English Star ting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain br ake must be engaged when the chain saw is started. Activate the brak e by moving the front hand guard forw ards. Ignition: Slide the ignition switch to the left.
ST ARTING AND ST OPPING English – 21 star ts, quickly apply full throttle; the throttle star t lock will automatically disengage. As the chain brake is still engaged the speed of the engine must be set to idling as soon as possible , this is achiev ed by quic kly disengaging the throttle lock.
WORKING TECHNIQUES 22 – English Bef ore use: 1 Check that the chain brak e works correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the rear right hand guard is not damaged. 3 Check that the throttle loc kout works correctly and is not damaged. 4 Check that the stop s witch works correctly and is not damaged.
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 23 lose control. Both situations can cause serious personal injury . 6 Before mo ving your chain saw s witch off the engine and lock the chain using the chain brak e. Carry the chain saw with the bar and chain pointing bac kwards.
WORKING TECHNIQUES 24 – English ladder , in a tree or where you do not ha ve firm ground to stand on. 6 Alwa ys use a fast cutting speed, i.e . full throttle. 7 T ake great care when you cut with the top edge of the bar , i.e. when cutting from the underside of the object.
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 25 5 Do the conditions and surrounding terrain aff ect how safely y ou can stand and mov e about? T wo factors decide whether the chain will jam or the object that you are cutting will split: the first is how the object is suppor ted before and after cutting, and the second is whether it is in tension.
WORKING TECHNIQUES 26 – English T ree felling technique Safe distance The saf e distance betw een a tree that is to be felled and anyone else w orking nearby is at least 2 1/2 tree lengths. Make sure that no-one else is in this ”risk zone” bef ore or during felling.
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 27 Felling F elling is done using three cuts . First you mak e the directional cuts, which consist of the top cut and the bottom cut, then you finish with the f elling cut. By placing these cuts correctly you can control the f elling direction very accurately .
WORKING TECHNIQUES 28 – English fi nd out which lengths of bar are recommended for y our saw . There are methods for f elling trees with a diameter larger than the bar length. Howe v er these methods involv e a much greater risk that the kickbac k zone of the bar will come into contact with the tree.
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 29 Ho w to a v oid kickbac k What is kickbac k? The w ord kickbac k is used to describe the sudden reaction that causes the chain saw and bar to jump off an object when the upper quadrant of the tip of the bar , known as the kickbac k zone, touches an object.
MAINTENANCE 30 – English Carb urettor adjustment The carb urettor can be designed in diff erent wa ys, depending on existing en vironmental and emissions legislation. Some chain saws are equipped with mov ement limiters on the carburettor’ s adjuster screws .
MAINTENANCE English – 31 Rec. idle speed: 2700 rpm Fine adjustment When the machine has been ”run-in” the carb urettor should be finely adjusted. The fine adjustment should be carried out by a qualified person. First adjust the L-jet, then the idling screw T and then the H-jet.
MAINTENANCE 32 – English Function, Basic settings, Fine adjustment Function • The carburettor gov erns the engine’s speed via the throttle control. Air and fuel are mix ed in the carburettor . The air/fuel mixture is adjustab le. Correct adjustment is essential to get the best performance from the machine.
MAINTENANCE English – 33 High speed jet H • The high speed jet H influences the power and engine speed of the machine. If the high speed jet is set too rich (H-jet screwed in too f ar) the machine will over-re v and this will damage the engine. Run the machine at full throttle for about 10 seconds .
MAINTENANCE 34 – English Chec king the inertia brake release Place the chain saw , with the engine s witched off , on a stump or other stable surf ace. Release the front handle and let the saw f all by its own w eight, rotating around the rear handle towards the stump .
MAINTENANCE English – 35 Chain catcher Chec k that the chain catcher is not damaged and is firmly attached to the body of the chain saw . Right hand guard Chec k that the right hand guard is not damaged and that there are no visible def ects, such as crac ks.
MAINTENANCE 36 – English use a muffler if the spark arrestor mesh is missing or defective. The m uffler is designed to reduce the noise le vel and to direct the exhaust gases a wa y from the operator . The exhaust gases are hot and can contain sparks, which ma y cause fire if directed against dry and combustible material.
MAINTENANCE English – 37 Remember that the recoil spring is coiled under tension in the star ter housing. • Remov e the recoil spring from inside the pulley by tapping the pulley lightly with its inside f ace downwards against a w ork bench or the like.
MAINTENANCE 38 – English Lubricating the bar tip spr oc ket Lubr icate the bar tip sprocket each time y ou refuel. Use the special grease gun and a good quality bearing grease. Needle bearing lubrication The clutch drum has a needle bearing on the output shaft.
MAINTENANCE English – 39 • T oo low engine temperature. • Icing of the air filter and carburettor . Special measures are therefore often required: • P ar tly mask the air inlet on the star ter to increase the working temperature of the engine.
