• 6 in. (15.2 cm) clear ance is required betw een the side of the rout er and any equipment that produces hea t. • 2.8 in. (7 .1 cm) is re quired betw een the side of the router and any larg e surfac e that does not produce hea t, such a s a wall.

St ep 2: Install the Mounting Hardwar e and Cabl e Mana gement S yst em Y ou can mount the router in many types of r acks or cabinets. The router is shipped with mounting brack ets install ed in the front-mounting position. • Four-post rack or cabinet: W e re commend using a shelf to support the rout er .
T o install the cabl e manag ement system: 1. At tach an el ectros tatic dischar ge (ESD) grounding strap t o your bare wrist, and conne ct the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis. 2. Loc at e the cable manag ement rack s and appropria te scre ws in the ac cessory box.
St ep 3: Install the R out er A fully config ured M10i router can weigh up to 80 lb (36 kg). W e re commend that tw o peopl e lift the chassis. Hav e a third person ready to install the mounting screws. 1. P osition one person behind the router and another person in front.
St ep 4: Conne ct the Grounding Cabl e 1. V erify tha t a license d electrician ha s attache d the cabl e lug pro vided with the rout er to the grounding cabl e. 2. Connec t the grounding cabl e to a proper earth ground for each external DC pow er sourc e, if it is not already connec ted .
St ep 5: Conne ct External Devic es and PIC Cabl es T o connect ex ternal devic es and PIC cabl es, perform the foll owing proc edures: • Connec t to a Network for Out-of-Band Management on pag e 10 • Connec t a Manag ement Consol e on pag e 10 • Connec t the PIC Cable on pag e 10 Connec t to a Ne twork for Out-of-Band Manag ement 1.
• Do not let fiber-optic cabl e hang free from the connect or . Do not allo w fa st ened loops of cabl e to dangle which stresse s the cabl e at the fa st ening point. 1. Identify the appropria t e cable to be connec ted to each PIC. For cabl e specifica tions, see the M10i Mul tiservice Edge Rout er PIC Guide .
St ep 6: Conne ct the Po wer C able s Depending on your configur ation, your rout er uses either AC or DC power supplies. Perf orm the appropriat e proce dures for each power supply in your router .
6. V erify that a licensed ele ctrician has at tached a listed power cabl e lug to each power sourc e cable . 7 . Loop the pow er cable s through the hook loc at ed on the f acepl at e to the right of the field-wiring terminals. 8. Depending on the type of pow er cable lugs used, loo sen or remov e the screws on the field-wiring terminals.
Po w er On the Rout er 1. V erify tha t an ext ernal management devic e is conne cted to one of the Routing Engine ports on the R outing Engine ( AU X/MODEM , CONSOLE , or MGMT ).
St ep 7: P erform Initial Soft war e C onfigur ation This proc edure connects the router to the netw ork but does not enable it to forw ard tra ffic. For comple te informa tion about enabling the router to forwar d tra ffic, including exampl es, see the Junos OS configura tion guides.
Config uring Sy st em At tributes For more informa tion about the backup rout er and static route s, see the Junos OS Syst em Basic s Configura tion Guide . 1. Config ure the name of the rout er . If the name include s spaces, enclo se the name in quota tion marks (“ ”).

• If the r ack is pro vided with stabilizing devices, install the stabilizer s before mounting or servicing the rout er in the rack. • When remo ving or installing an electric al component, alw ays place it component-side up on a fla t antistatic surface or in an electr osta tic bag.

These limits are designed to provide rea sonable prot ection against harmful interfer ence when the equipment is opera ted in a commercial environment.
