5 Accessing the ERX System This chapt er provides inf ormation on t he var ious wa ys you can access the system t o manage it. Ma naging y our router includes bo th conf igur ing and monitoring it. F or basic inform ation on the management of t he system, see ERX Syst em Basics Conf iguration Guide, Chapt er 4, Managing the System .
CHAPTER 5 Accessing the ERX System 5-2 F or initial access to the system, you need t o physically connect y our console directly to the system’s RS- 232 por t. This connection allows y ou to use the CLI to se t an IP address on the system. Once y ou conf igure the IP address, y ou can access the system remot ely (f or example, via T elnet).
