11 1 Preparing and using for the first time Daily maintenance of the machine and hygiene when handling milk, coffee and water are key to a per fect coffee result in the cup every time. Y ou should therefore change the w ater daily . Milk, sparkling mineral w ater or other liquids can damage the wat er tank or the machine.
12 1 Preparing and using for the first time If the machine is operat ed with a defective power cord, there is a danger of potentially fatal electric shock. T Never use a mac hine which is damaged. T Never use a mac hine which has a defective po wer cord.
13 1 Preparing and using for the first time Milk, sparkling mineral w ater or other liquids can damage the wat er tank or the machine. T Only fill the water tank with fresh, cold w ater . T Press the ‘ Active’ button. T Press the ‘Sav e’ button.

15 1 Preparing and using for the first time Y ou can find out what the w ater hardness is b y using the Aquadur® test strip supplied as standard. T Hold the te st strip briefly (for 1 second) under flo wing water . Shake off the w ater . T Wait f o r about one minute .
16 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Press the ‘Espresso ’ button. The grinder star ts up. ‘Espresso ’ is displayed. T T urn the grinder adjustment switch to the desired position while the grinder is running. The espresso is prepared an d the consistency of grind is adjusted.
17 2 Preparation 2 Preparation Hot coffee , hot steam and hot w ater can cause scalding. Scalding is a serious burn. T Use extreme care when handling hot liquid or steam. T Allow liquid to c ool down before drinking. T In the event of scalding, rinse affected area with cold water and seek medical attention.
18 2 Preparation Only some of the speci alty coff ees you ca n p re pa re a re sho wn on the display at any one time. As soon as you turn the Rotary Swit ch, more specialty coffees are displayed in the product selector . The product selector disappears automatically after 5 seconds if no preparation is started.
19 2 Preparation T o prepare tw o spec ialty coffees, either use the product selec tor or press the appropriate prepar ation button twice (within approximately 2 seconds). Example : Proc eed as follows t o prepar e tw o co f fe es (using product selector).

21 2 Preparation E The desired specialty coffee mu st be prepared within appro x- imately one minute af ter filling with the ground coffee. Oth - erwise the IMPRESS A stops the operation and is once more ready for use . All specialt y coffees with ground co ffee a re pr epar ed foll owing this model.
22 2 Preparation T Press any button as soon as there is sufficient coffee in the cup. Preparation stops. ‘Saved’ appears briefly on the display . The set amount of water for one coffee is permanently stored. ‘Please select product:’ appear s on the display .
23 3 Daily operation 3 Daily oper ation When the IMPRESS A is switched on, it automatically prompt s you to per form the rinse operation. Star t the rinse operation by pressing the Rotary Switch k .
24 3 Daily operation When you switch your IMPRESSA off, the spout s used to prepare a specialty coffee or milk are rinsed. T Place one receptacle under the coffee spout and another under the cappuccino frother . Q T Press the On/Off button.

28 4 Permanent settings in programming mode E Next select the butt on of the product for which you would like to make settings. No product is prepared at this point. T Press the ‘Latte macchiato ’ button. ‘Latte macchiato ’ T Press the ‘ Amount of milk’ button.

33 4 Permanent settings in programming mode By instructing your IMPRESSA to aut omatically switch itself off, you can cut do wn y our energy c onsumption. If this func tion is activated, your IMPRES SA switc hes off automatically after the preset time fol- lowing the last action on the machine .
34 4 Permanent settings in programming mode In the program item ‘Machine settings ( 4 / 6 )’ / ‘Factory setting’ you can reset various settings to their f actor y settings: U ‘Machine’ U All user settings (apar t from the ‘filter’ and ‘ wat er hardness ’) are reset to factor y settings.
35 4 Permanent settings in programming mode In this program item you can set the language used by your IMPRESSA. E If you choose the wrong language by mistake, you can easily reset the machine to ‘English’ : Press the P butt on to enter pro- gramming mode.

38 5 Maintenance Y ou can initiate the rinse operation manually at an y time. Precondition: ‘Please select product:’ is display ed. T Place a receptacle under the coffee spout. O T Press the P button. ‘Maintenance status ( 1 / 6 )’ T Press the ‘Rinse the coffee system ’ button.
39 5 Maintenance T o ensure that the cappuccino frother always works properly , you must clean it daily when you have been preparing milk. Y our IMPRESSA will not prompt y ou to clean the cappuccino frother . Non-recommended cleaning agent s will not optimally remove milk residues.
40 5 Maintenance T Empt y the other receptacle and place it under the cappuc - cino frother again. T Press the ‘Next’ button. ‘Milk system is being cleaned. ’ , the cappuccino frother and the pipe are rinsed with fresh wa ter . ‘Please select product:’ appear s on the display .

45 5 Maintenance E The descaling program lasts approximat ely 50 minutes. E JURA descaling tablet s are av ailable from specializ ed dealers. E If you use a CLE ARYL Pro Blue filter cartridge and this is ac ti- va ted, y ou will not be prompted to descale .
