18 2 Preparing and using your IMPRESS A for the first time If the machine is oper ated with a defective pow er cable, there is a danger of electric shock. T Never use a machine which has a defective po wer cable . Precondition : The w ater tank and bean container are full.

23 2 Preparing and using your IMPRESS A for the first time T T urn the fineness of grind switch to the desired position while the grinder is running. The coffee will be prepared and the fineness of grind is adjusted.

34 4 Preparation at the touch of a button Y our IMPRESSA prepares a cappuccino at the touch of a butt on. It is not necessary to move the cup . Precondition : COFFEE READY is display ed. T T ake the protective c over off the Prof essional Cappuccino F rother .
35 4 Preparation at the touch of a button T Place a cup under the frother . p T Press the Cappuccino button. CAPPUCCINO and the coffee strength are displa yed. The milk foam is then prepared. The oper ation stops auto- matically when the pre-set amount of milk is reached.
36 4 Preparation at the touch of a button E A brief pause follows during which the hot milk separ ates from the milk foam. This enables the formation of the typical lay ers of a latte macchiato. The dur ation of this pause can be defined in programming mode .
37 4 Preparation at the touch of a button T o ensure that the frother works per fectly , you should rinse and clean it regularly . The description f or this can be found in Chapter 6 ‘Maintenance – Cappuccino frother’. Y ou can choose a second coffee blend, for ex ample decaffeinated coffee , with the filler funnel for pre-ground coffee .

45 5 Permanent settings in programming mode Y ou already set the time and weekday when you used the mac hine for the first time. Example : T o change the time from 08:45 to 09:50 , proceed as follow s. Precondition : COFFEE READY is display ed. T Open the cov er of the Rotary Switch.
46 5 Permanent settings in programming mode E The programmable switch-on only works when the mac hine is switched on at the po wer switch (standby). Example : Proceed as f ollows to set the progr ammable switch-on time to 07:30 and stipulate that your IMP RESSA does not switch on automatically on Sundays.

53 6 Maintenance c T Press the maintenance button. CHANGE FILTER / PRESS RINSE T Remo ve the w ater tank and empty it. T Lift the car tridge holder . T T ake out the old CLARIS filt er cartridge and the ex tension. T Fit the extension on top of a new filt er cartridge.

ADD TABLET / PRESS RINSE , the maintenance button c lights up. T Open the cov er of the filler funnel for pre-ground coffee .
56 6 Maintenance The IMPRESSA builds up depo sits of limescale over time and auto- matically prompts you to descale it when necessary. The degree of calcification depends on the degree of hardness of your w ater . If the descaling agent comes into contact with the skin or eyes, this can cause irritation.
57 6 Maintenance E If you want t o descale the machine at a later point in time , turn the Rotary Switch until START NO is display ed. Exit the maintenance progr amme by pressing the R otar y Switc h. The prompt ‘Decalcify machine’ remains on the display .
58 6 Maintenance T Refit the frother . T Place a rec eptacle under the coffee and hot w ater spout and another under the frother . c T Press the maintenance button. DECALCS , wat er flows out of the frother and the hot w ater spout. The process is interrupted, HEATING UP .
59 6 Maintenance It can be set in programming mode whether the rinsing prompt is display ed immediately or 10 minutes after preparation (refer to Chapter 5 ‘P ermanent settings in programming mode – Rinses ’). Precondition : COFFEE READY / RINSE CAPPUCCINO is display ed and the maintenance button c lights up.
60 6 Maintenance E This chapter applies to the Professional and Easy Cappuccino F rothers . T o ensure that the respec tive frother works perfectly , you should clean it daily when you ha ve been preparing milk. If the wrong cleaning agent is used, the machine could be damaged and/or trac es of detergent could be left behind in the water .

62 6 Maintenance E Ensure that the individual par ts are correc tly and firmly attached to one another to ensure optimum function of the frother . T Firmly attach the frother to the Connector System © . T Carefully remov e the frother from the Connector System © by twisting slightly .
63 6 Maintenance T Loosen the scre w in the bean container and lif t up the finger protection. T Remo ve the remaining beans with a v acuum cleaner . T Clean the bean c ontainer with a sof t, dr y cloth. T Put the finger protection down again and screw it back tightly in place.

66 8 T roubleshooting 8 T roubleshooting Problem Cause/Result Action Grinder is making a very loud noise. There are foreign objects in the grinder . Problem Cause/Result Action ERROR 2 is display ed. If the machine w as exposed to the cold f or a long period of time, it is disabled from heating up due to safety reasons.
68 9 T ransport and environmentally neutral disposal K eep the packaging for y our IMPRESSA. It should be used to protect the machine during tr ansport ation. In order to protect the IMPRESSA from fro st during transportation, the system must be emptied.
