E-4 INTRODUCTION Place of storage and use Av oid storing or using this VCR in the following places: z Excessively hot or cold places beyond the allowable temperature for operation(5°C – 40°C). z Humid or dry places beyond the allowable humidity range for operation (30% – 80% RH).
E-6 INTRODUCTION T his unit records in HDV or DV format. DV format is a standard for recording SD (S tandard-Definition) video onto DV cassettes or mini DV cas- settes. HDV format is a standard for recording HD (High-Definition) video onto DV cassettes or mini DV cas- settes.
E-8 INTRODUCTION T his unit uses consumables or components that will wear off. If a wor n-out or deteriorated component continues to be used, it may cause the unit to break down. T o prevent this, perform routine mainte- nance using the head-cleaning tape.

E-38 PREP ARA TION Setting/Displaying date and time T his function sets up the date and time of the built-in clock. With the built-in chargeable battery , the date and time data that have been set are maintained even after the main power is tu rned off.
E-40 PREP ARA TION Selecting HD signal for mat On this unit, 60Hz format or 50Hz format for the HD signal format can be selected using 60/50 SEL in the SYSTEM [2/2] Menu screen. T his must be set in the following situations. z Se t to match the input signal format when recording HDV signals from the IEEE1394 terminal.
E-42 RECORDING Settings for digital signal input Selecting digit al input signal Set the INPUT SELECT switch located on the front panel to HDV/DV . Inputs IEEE1394 terminal HDV or DV digital video. For audio, digital audio is input from the IEEE1394 terminal.
E-44 RECORDING Adjusting audio recor ding lev el T he analog audio recording level can be adjusted on th is unit. There are two adjustment methods, selected using A.REC VR.MD.: DV in the AUDIO Menu screen. Th e audio recording level can be set to the initial setting value.
E-46 RECORDING Re cor ding procedure 1. Load the cassette tape. •B efore loading the cassette tape, please ensure that the rear slide of the cassette tape is pushed to REC. J T he unit is turned on. 2. St art recording. •P ress the PLA Y button while holding down the REC button.
E-48 RECORDING Re cor ding with SERIAL REMOTE terminals Recording can be turne d ON/OFF with a serial remote controller or foot switch connected to the serial re mote terminal located at the rear panel of BR-HD50. The se rial remote controller can be connected to the SERIAL REMOTE terminal located on the rear panel of BR-HD50.

E-54 PLA Y BAC K Search function Th is function searches to the position where the index signal is recorded. Set “ Q , S ” KEY FUNC in the SYSTEM [1/2] Menu screen to INDEX. To search an index point in the forward direction from the curren t tape position: •P ress the SEARCH+ button.
E-56 PLA Y BAC K Multi cue-up Using the time codes recorded on the tape, up to 5 points on the tape can be registered as cue-up points at the Multi Cue-up screen. The registered tape positions (cue-up points) can be searched. 1. Set the COUNTER switch to TC.
E-58 TIME CODE Displaying the time code Th is unit records or plays back the time code and user’s bit. Whether to record the user’s bit can be selected with U-BIT in the TC/UB/CLOCK [2/2] Menu screen ( only for E model).
E-60 TIME CODE Re cor ding the time code Ti me codes can be reco rded with the following ways. Whether to recor d user ’s bit can be selected with U-BIT in the TC/UB/CLOCK [2/2] Menu screen. (Only for E model) z Record it from preset data. z Record it following the one last recorded on the tape.
