– 9 – English Common Operations Setting the Clock Before operating the unit any further , first set the c lock built in this unit. • There is a time limit in doing the follo wing steps. If the setting is canceled before you finish, start from step 1 again.
– 10 – English Reinforcing the Bass Sound The richness and fullness of the bass sound is maintained regardless of ho w low you set the volume. Y ou can use this eff ect onl y for playback. T o get the effect, press ACTIVE B ASS EX. so that the B ASS indicator appears on the display .
– 11 – English Listening to FM and AM (MW/L W) Broadcasts T uning in a Station 1 Pr ess FM/AM. The unit automatically turns on and tunes in the previously tuned sta tion (FM, MW , or L W). • Each time you press the button, the band changes among FM, MW , and L W .
– 12 – English Receiving FM Stations with RDS RDS allows FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular progr am signals. For example, the stations send their station names, as well as information about what type of program they broadcast, suc h as sports or music, etc.
– 13 – English Switching to a T raffic Announcement T emporarily By recei ving EON data sent by FM RDS stations, the EON function allo ws the unit to switch temporarily to a broadcast of a traf fic announcement from a dif ferent station. • The EON function only works when you are listening to a preset FM RDS stations providing EON data.
– 14 – English Loading CDs 1 Pr ess OPEN/CLOSE 0 on the unit or CD 0 on the remote control. The unit automatically turns on and the carousel comes out. 2 Place one or two discs corr ectly on the front slots of the car ousel, with its label side up.
– 15 – English Basic CD Operations While playing a CD, you can do the follo wing operations. T o exchange CDs during playback of another Press DISC CHANGE to eject and exchange the CD. T o locate a particular point in a track During play , press and hold 1 or ¡ .
– 16 – English Playing Back a T ape 1 Pr ess EJECT 0 for the deck y ou want to use. 2 Put a cassette in, with the exposed part of the tape down. • Y ou can play back only the type I tapes. 3 Close the cassette holder gently . If you put cassettes in both decks A and B, the deck which you hav e put a cassette into last is selected.
– 17 – English Recording Resetting the T ape Counter If you wish to take a note on the counter v alue at the beginning of each track, reset the counter before starting a recording. Press COUNTER RESET on the unit to reset the counter . The counter reading becomes “0000.
– 18 – English Using the T imers There are three timers av ailable — Recording T imer , Daily T imer , and Sleep T imer . Before using the timers, you need to set the clock built in the unit. (See page 9.) Using Daily Timer W ith Daily T imer , you can wake to your fa vorite music or radio program.
– 19 – English 7 When selecting “FM, ” “MW , ” or “L W . ” Press 4 or ¢ to select the preset station number , then press PR OGRAM/SET . The unit enters recording timer setting mode. If you want to continue the Recording T imer setting, go to step 3 of the Recording T imer setting procedure.
– 20 – English Using Sleep T imer W ith Sleep T imer , you can fall asleep to music. Y ou can set Sleep T imer when the unit is operating. How Sleep Timer actually works The unit automatically turns of f after the specified time length passes by .
– 21 – English Handling cassette tapes • If the tape is loose in its cassette, take up the slack by inserting a pencil in one of the reels and rotating. • If the tape is loose, it may get stretched, cut, or caught in the cassette. • Be careful not to touch the tape surface.
