– 12 – Putting the Batteries into the Remote Control Insert the batteries—R6(UM-3)/AA(15F)—into the remote control, by matching the polarity (+ and –) on the batteries with the + and – markings on the battery compartment. When the remote control can no longer operate the unit, replace both batteries at the same time.

– 15 – Adjusting the Volume Y ou can adjust the volume le vel only while the unit is turned on. When using the remote control, press V OLUME + to increase the v olume or press V OLUME – to decrease it. When using the unit, turn V OLUME clockwise to increase the volume or counter clockwise to decrease it.
– 16 – Selecting the Sound Modes Y ou can select one of the 5 preset sound modes and 2 manual modes. • Y ou can use this effect only for playback, but not for recording. On the remote contr ol ONL Y : Press SOUND r epeatedly until the sound mode y ou want appears in the main display .

– 21 – Switching to a Program of Y our Choice Automatically The EON function allo ws the unit to switch temporarily to a broadcast program of your choice (T A, News, and/or Info) from a dif ferent station except when you are listening to a non-RDS stations—some FM stations and AM (MW/ L W) stations.
– 22 – More about the EON function • EON data sent from some stations may not be compatible with this unit. • While listening to a program tuned in by the EON function, the station does not change e ven if another network station starts broadcasting a program of the same type.

– 25 – Basic Disc Operations T o exchange a disc during playback of another disc On the unit ONL Y : Press the open/close buttons ( 0 CD1, 0 CD2, or 0 CD3) to eject a disc not currently playing. If discs are exchanged during playback, playback will stop after playing all ne wly inserted discs.
– 26 – 5 Program other tracks y ou want. • T o program tracks from the same disc, repeat step 4. • T o program tracks from a dif ferent disc, repeat steps 3 and 4.

– 30 – Notice you cannot use Program Play and Random Play while playing a disc on CD Recorder . Playing Back a Disc—Normal Play Y ou can play back both finalized and unfinaliz ed discs on CD Recorder . On the remote contr ol ONL Y : 1 Press 0 CDR.
– 31 – Recording on a CD-R/CD-RW Main unit The buttons and controls enlar ged in the illustration belo w are used and explained in this section (pages 32 to 41). – 32 – Before Y ou Start Recording • When you record onto a partially recorded unfinalized CD-R or CD-R W , its contents are not erased or ov erwritten.
– 33 – High-Speed Recording When using some of the Recording Modes mentioned on the left column, this unit allows y ou to change the recording speed—normal speed and high speed. For CD-R, high speed means 4 times normal speed and for CD-R W , 2 times normal speed.
– 34 – Recording Any Sound Source —Standard Recording The follo wing recording method can be applied to any sound source. On the unit ONL Y : 1 Select the source to r ecord from. • When recording from 3-CD Changer: – Press CD 3 / 8 , then 7 .
– 35 – T o make a silent portion in your recording Y ou can record a 4-second silence when using Standard Recording. This is con v enient when recording tracks from many discs. • This function can be used both for digital and analog recording. T o make a silent portion in y our recording, press REC MUTE on the unit while recording.
– 36 – Recording from 3-CD Changer —CD Synchronized Recording Y ou have three methods to record from 3-CD Changer to CD Recorder . Using these synchronized recording methods, you can start and playback and recording at the same time.
– 37 – ■ Using the REC MODE button On the unit ONL Y : 1 Pr epare discs in 3-CD Changer . • If the current playing source is not 3-CD changer, press CD 3 / 8 , then 7 . T o select a disc, press DISC repeatedly , then 7 . Y ou can also use the remote control.
– 38 – 5 Press REC ST AR T (inside the sliding panel) . • If OPC (see page 32) is being performed, “UPDA TE OPC” flashes first in the main display , then recording starts. After the first track of the disc on the CD1 tr ay is recorded, the first trac k of the CD on the CD2 tray will be recorded.
– 39 – Listening Edit Recording Listening Edit Recording allo ws you to make a program while listening and checking each track of the loaded discs (up to 3 discs) in 3-CD Changer , then to start recording the program. • Y ou can pro gram up to 32 tracks.
– 40 – Continued Recording the External Components —Sound Synchronized Recording W ith this recording method, you can start recording automatically when the source sound comes into this unit through the LINE IN jacks or the LINE DIGIT AL IN terminal.
– 41 – Finalizing a Disc—CD-R/CD-RW Finalization is the f inal process in recording on a CD-R or CD-R W . “Finalizing a disc” means writing the TOC (T ab le of Contents) on the recorded disc. Only after this process is completed, a recorded CD-R or CD-R W can be played back on a CD player compatible with CD-R/CD-R W .

– 43 – CD RW UNFINALIZE DISC d B REC L EVEL FINALIZE DISC 3 2 1 Recording T rack Marks Manually —Manual T rack-Marking When auto track-marking is acti vated (initial setting at the factory), track marks are recorded automatically (see “ Auto track-marking” on page 32 for more details).
– 44 – T urning On or Off Sampling Frequency Rate Converter The sampling frequency rate con v erter built in the CD Recorder allows you to recor d a digital source having sampling frequency (fs) of 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, or 48 kHz by con verting the fs of the source signals into 44.

– 46 – TRACK ERASE = DISC ERASE = UNFINALIZE = TRACK SKIP = AUTO TRACK = TRACK SPACE = CONVERTER = Canceled = (back to the beginning) Unfinalizing a Disc (Only for CD-RW) By erasing the T OC (T able of Contents) of a finalized CD- R W , you will be able to record on the CD-R W again.

– 48 – There are three timers a vailable—Recording T imer , Daily T imer , and Sleep T imer . Before using these timers, you need to set the clock built in the unit. • In addition to these three timers, you can also use Auto Po wer Off to shut of f the po wer automatically .

– 52 – Using Sleep Timer W ith Sleep T imer , you can fall asleep to your f avor ite music or radio program. • Y ou can set Sleep T imer when the unit is turned on. How Sleep Timer actually works The unit automatically turns of f after the specified time length passes.
– 53 – Maintenance T o get the best performance of the unit, keep your discs and mechanism clean. General Notes In general, you will hav e the best performance by keeping your discs and the mechanism clean. • Store discs in their cases, and keep them in cabinets or on shelves.
