ENGLISH 5 Remote controller 3 • Selects the preset stations while listening to the radio . Each time you press the b utton, the preset station number increases, and the selected station is tuned in. • Skips to the first file of the pre vious folder while listening to an MP3 disc.
ENGLISH 6 Preparing the remote controller Bef ore using the remote controller : • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not e xpose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).
7 ENGLISH 4 Adjust the sound as y ou want. (See pages 22 and 23.) T o drop the volume in a moment Press briefly while listening to any source. “A TT” star ts flashing on the display , and the volume le v el will drop in a moment. T o resume the pre vious v olume le vel, press the button briefly again.
8 ENGLISH Setting the clock 1 Press and hold SEL (select) f or more than 2 seconds. “ CLOCK H, ” “ CLOCK M, ” “ LEVEL, ” “ SCROLL, ” or “ TA G DISP ” appears on the displa y . 2 Set the hour . 1 Select “ CLOCK H ” (hour) if not sho wn on the displa y .
9 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM 1 – 3, AM). Each time you press the button, the band changes as f ollows: Note: This r eceiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3).

11 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3, and AM) manually . Ex.: Storing FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band. 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM) y ou want to store stations into (in this e xample, FM1).
12 ENGLISH CD OPERA TIONS All trac ks will be play ed repeatedly until you stop pla ybac k. Note: When a CD is inserted upside down, “EJECT” and the CD–in indicator flash on the display and the CD automatically ejects. T o stop play and eject the CD Press 0 .
13 ENGLISH Locating a track or a particular portion on a CD T o fast-forward or reverse the track T o go to the next or previous tracks T o go to a particular track directly Press the number button corresponding to the trac k number to star t its pla yback.
14 ENGLISH Selecting CD playback modes T o play back tracks at random (Disc Random Play) Y ou can pla y back all trac ks on the CD at random. 1 Press M (MODE) to enter the functions mode while pla ying a CD . 2 Press RND (random), while still in the functions mode, so that “DISC RND” appears on the display .
15 ENGLISH Playing a CD T ext In a CD T ext, some inf or mation about the disc (its disc title, perf or mer , and track title) is recorded. This CD T ext inf or mation will be shown automatically when you pla y a CD T ext. T o change the CD T ext inf ormation manually , select text displa y mode while playing a CD T ext.
16 ENGLISH MP3 INTRODUCTION Precautions when recording MP3 files on a CD-R or CD-RW This unit can only read MP3 files that are recorded in the f or mat that is compliant with ISO 9660 Le v el 1, Le vel 2, or Joliet. How are MP3 files recorded and played back? MP3 “ files (trac ks) ” can be recorded in “ f olders ” —in PC ter minology .
17 ENGLISH MP3 folder/ file configuration : Root : F olders : MP3 files MP3 playback/search order • The numbers in circles belo w the MP3 files ( ) indicate the playbac k order and search order of the MP3 files. Normally , this unit plays bac k MP3 files in the recorded order .

Note on One-T ouch Operation: When a disc is alr eady in the loading slot, pressing CD turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .
19 ENGLISH T o change the display information While pla ying back an MP3 file , you can change the MP3 disc inf ormation shown on the display . Each time you press DISP (display), the displa y changes.
20 ENGLISH Press 5 (up) while pla ying an MP3 disc to skip to the ne xt f older . Each time you press the b utton consecutiv ely , the ne xt f older is located (and the first file in the f older star ts playing, if recorded). Press ∞ (down) while pla ying an MP3 disc to skip back to the pre vious folder .
21 ENGLISH (f older) and RND indicators Ex.: When you select “ FLDR RND ” Selecting MP3 playback modes T o play back files at random (Folder Random/Disc Random Play) Y ou can pla y back all files of the current f older or all files on the MP3 disc at random.
22 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Selecting preset sound modes (C-EQ: custom equalizer) Y ou can select a preset sound mode (C-EQ: custom equalizer) suitab le to the music genre. Select the sound mode y ou want. When you press the b utton once, the last selected sound mode is recalled and applied to the current source.
23 ENGLISH 2 Adjust the setting. 3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 to adjust the other items. T o reset each sound mode to the factory settings, repeat the same procedure and reassign the preset v alues listed in the table on page 22.
24 ENGLISH OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS Changing the general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the lev el display , scroll mode, and tag displa y by using the PSM (Pref erred Setting Mode) control. Basic Procedure 1 Press and hold SEL (select) f or more than 2 seconds.
25 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . 26 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw a ys ser ious. Check the f ollowing points bef ore calling a ser vice center . Symptoms • Sound cannot be heard from the speakers . • The unit does not work at all. • SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memor y) automatic preset does not work.
27 ENGLISH Symptoms • Disc cannot be pla yed back. • Noise is generated. • A longer readout time is required ( “ CHECK ” keeps flashing on the displa y). • Files cannot be pla y ed back as y ou hav e intended them to pla y . • Elapsed pla ying time is not correct.
28 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE Handling discs This unit has been designed to reproduce CDs, CD-Rs (Recordab le), CD-R Ws (Rewritab le), and CD T e xts. • This unit is also compatible with MP3 discs. How to handle discs When removing a disc fr om its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the disc out, holding it by the edges.
