4 ENGLISH BASIC OPERA TIONS Note: When you use this unit for the first time, set the built-in clock corr ectly , see page 19. 2 Note on One-T ouch Operation: When you select a sour ce in step 2 below , the power automatically comes on. Y ou do not have to press this b utton to turn on the power .
5 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Y ou can select any one of FM1, FM2, and FM3 to listen to an FM station. FM1 FM2 FM3 AM FM/AM T o search stations of higher frequencies. T o search stations of lower frequencies.
6 ENGLISH Storing stations in memory Y ou can use one of the follo wing two methods to store broadcasting stations in memory . • Automatic preset of FM stations: SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memor.
7 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) manually . EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band FM/AM 1 Select the FM1 band. 2 T une into a station of 88.3 MHz.
8 ENGLISH 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM) y ou want. 2 Select the number (1 – 6) f or the preset station you w ant. T uning into a preset station Y ou can easily tune into a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. If you have not stored them yet, see pages 6 and 7.

10 ENGLISH CD OPERA TIONS Playing a CD 1 Insert a disc into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws a CD and starts playback automatically . • When a CD is inserted upside down, “EJECT” appears on the display and the CD automatically ejects. T o stop play and eject the CD Press 0 .
11 ENGLISH Locating a track or a particular portion on a CD T o fast for ward or reverse the track Press and hold ¢ , while pla ying a CD , to fast f orward the trac k.
12 ENGLISH RPT MO/RND RPT MO/RND Selecting CD playback modes Other convenient CD functions Prohibiting CD ejection Y ou can prohibit the CD ejection and can “loc k” a CD in the loading slot. Press and hold CD and 0 for more than 2 seconds. “EJECT” flashes on the display for about 5 seconds, and the CD is “locked.
13 ENGLISH Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the treble/bass sound and the speaker balance . 1 2 Equalization pattern changes as you adjust the bass or treb le. 14 ENGLISH T urning on/off the loudness function The human ear is less sensitive to lo w and high frequencies at low volumes . The loudness function can boost these frequencies to produce well-balanced sound at low volume level. Each time you press LOUD , the loudness function tur ns on and off alter natively .
15 ENGLISH SCM Using the Sound Contr ol Memory Y ou can select and store a preset sound adjustment suitable to each pla yback source . ( Adv anced SCM ) Selecting and storing the sound modes Once you select a sound mode , it is stored in memor y , and will be recalled e very time you select the same source.
16 ENGLISH Recalling the sound modes 1 Select the source while the “Link” indicator is lit on the displa y . The “Link” indicator star ts flashing, and the sound mode stored in memor y f or the selected source is recalled. Notes: • Y ou can adjust eac h sound mode to your pr efer ence, and stor e it in memory .
17 ENGLISH Canceling Advanced SCM Y ou can cancel the Advanced SCM (Sound Control Memory), and unlink the sound modes and the pla yback sources. When shipped from the f actor y , a diff erent sound mode can be stored in memor y f or each source so that you can change the sound modes simply b y changing the sources.
18 ENGLISH 1 Call up the sound mode y ou want to adjust. See page 15 f or details. 2 T o adjust the bass or treb le sound le vel Select “BAS” or “TRE. ” T o tur n on or off the loudness function Each time you press LOUD , the loudness function turns on and off alter natively .
19 ENGLISH 1 Press and hold SEL for more than 2 seconds. “CLOCK H,” “CLOCK M,” “SCM LINK,” “LEVEL”, “AREA” or “LINE IN*” appears on the display . * Displayed only when one of the following sources is selected — FM, AM and CD.
20 ENGLISH T o check the current clock time (changing the display mode) Press DISP repeatedly . Each time you press the button, the display mode changes as follows. • If the unit is not in use when you press DISP , the power turns on, the clock time is shown for 5 seconds, then the power turns off.
21 ENGLISH 1 Press and hold SEL for more than 2 seconds. “CLOCK H,” “CLOCK M,” “SCM LINK,” “LEVEL,” “AREA” or “LINE IN*” appears on the display . * Displayed only when one of the following sour ces is selected — FM, AM and CD.
22 ENGLISH How to detach the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power . 1 Unlock the control panel. 2 Lift and pull the control panel out of the unit.
23 ENGLISH R03(UM-4)/AAA(24F) Insert the · ends first. When the controllable range or eff ectiveness of the remote controller decreases, replace the batteries – R03(UM-4)/ AAA(24F). REMOTE OPERA TIONS Remote sensor Bef ore using the remote controller : • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit.
24 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS W e recommend that you use one of the CH-X series with your unit. If you ha ve another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer for connections . • F or example, if your CD automatic chang er is one of the KD-MK series, you need a cor d (KS- U15K) for connecting it to this unit.
25 ENGLISH T o fast for ward or reverse the track Press and hold ¢ , while pla ying a CD , to fast f orward the trac k. Press and hold 4 , while pla ying a CD , to re verse the trac k. T o go to the next track or the previous track Press ¢ briefly, while playing a CD , to go ahead to the beginning of the ne xt track.

27 ENGLISH Y ou can connect the external component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adaptor KS-U57 (not supplied). Preparations: • F or connecting the Line Input Adaptor KS-U57 and the e xternal component, refer to the Installation/ Connection Manual (separate volume).

T o use the e xter nal component as the pla yback source through this receiv er, y ou need to select which de vice — CD changer or e xternal component — to use.
29 ENGLISH Center holder COMPACT DIGITAL AUDIO MAINTENANCE Handling CDs This unit has been designed only to reproduce the CDs bearing the mark. Other discs cannot be played back. How to handle CDs When removing a CD fr om its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the CD out, holding it by the edges.
30 ENGLISH What appears to be trouble is not always serious. Check the following points before calling a service center . Symptoms • CD cannot be played back. • CD sound is sometimes interrupted. • Sound cannot be heard from the speakers. • SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memory) automatic preset does not work.
