2 Introduction 7 Important cautions Installation of the system • Select a place which is le vel, dry and neither too hot nor too cold; between 5°C and 35°C (41°F and 95°F). • Leav e suff icient distance between the system and the TV . • Do not use the system in a place subject to vibration.
3 About discs This system has been designed to play back the following discs: D VD VIDEO, D VD A UDIO, V ideo CD (VCD), Super V ideo CD (SVCD), Audio CD (CD), CD-R and CD-R W . • This syste m accommodates th e NTSC system, and also ca n play discs recorded with P AL system.
About discs 4 Notes on MP3/WMA/JPEG /MPEG4 discs • MP3/WMA/JPEG/ MPEG4 discs (either CD-R or CD-R W) require a longer readout time. (It dif fers due to the complexity of the directory/file configuratio n.) • When making an MP3/WMA/JPEG /MPEG4 dis c, select ISO 9660 Lev el 1 or Level 2 for the disc format.

Description of parts and controls 7 Remote control Putting batteries in the remote control If the range or effecti veness of the remote control decreases, replace both batteries. CAUTION • Do not expose batteries to heat or flame. Operating the system from the remote control Aim the remote control directly to the front panel of the center unit.
8 Connections 7 AM loop antenna Setting up sup plied AM loop antenn a Connecting AM l oop antenna • T urn the loop antenna until you ha ve the best reception during AM broadcast program reception. NOTE • Make sure the antenna conductors do not touch any other terminals, connecting cords and power cords.
Connections 9 The following procedur e explains the front speaker assemb ly . The assembly of both the front and surround speakers ar e done in the same manner . NOTE • The stands and the base plates are commonly used for both front and surround speakers assembly.

Connections 14 NOTE • Although the satellite speakers and the powered subwoofer are magnetically shielded, the TV screen may appear mottled. In this case, keep enough distanc e between the speakers and the TV. • T he speakers are magnetically shielded to avoid color distortions on TVs.
Connections 15 NOTE • The way of connecting the system cord varies depending on the type of the powered subwoofer. Y ou can enjoy the sound of an analog component. NOTE • T he signals input to the VIDEO jack of the VCR IN jacks will be output only from the VIDEO jack of the VIDEO OUT jacks, not from the S-VIDEO jack of the VIDEO OUT jacks.

Basic operations 19 On the remote contro l: Press one of the source selecting buttons (DVD, FM/AM, VCR or DBS). DV D : T o play back a disc (DVD VIDEO, VCD etc.). ( A pg. 22) FM/AM : T o tune in an FM or AM station. ( A pg. 42) Each time you press the butt on, the band alternates between FM and AM.
Basic operations 20 The system turns of f automatically when the specified period of time has passed. Press SLEEP. Each time you press the button, the shut-of f time changes. Example: To check the remaining time Press SLEEP once. To change the remaining time Press SLEEP r e peatedly .

Playback 24 7 Disc information on the display window The disc indicators on the display windo w show the current status of the corresponding disc tray . Example: When the discs are loaded to disc trays 1, 2 and 5, and the disc in the disc tray 5 is selected.

Advanced operations 27 7 All Channel Stereo (DSP) All Channel Stereo (ALL CH ST .) mode can reproduce a larger stereo sound fi eld using all the connected (and activ ated) speakers. All Channel Stereo can be used while reproducing 2 channel stereo source.
