8 English RL AUX L R L R Speaker grille T o remov e the speaker grille, insert your fingers at the top of the speaker grille, pull to wards you. Then pull the bottom tow ards you. T o attach the speaker grille, put the projections of the speaker grille into the holes of the speaker .
9 English Common Operations T o change the clock 1 Make sur e the (timer) indicator is not lit on the display . • If it is lit, press and hold CLOCK/TIMER until it goes of f. 2 Press CLOCK/TIMER r epeatedly until the unit enters the clock setting mode (the hour digits start flashing on the display).
10 English T urning On the Power T o turn on the unit, press ST ANDBY/ON . The ST ANDBY/ON lamp lights green and “HELLO” appears on the display . • When you press the source button—CD 3 / 8 , T APE 2 3 , FM/AM, and A UX, the unit automatically turns on and starts playback if the source is ready .
11 English Selecting the Display Color (ONL Y FOR UX-J66V) Y ou can select the display color (COLOR 1 – COLOR 5 and A UTO mode). • A UTO mode changes the color (COLOR 1 to COLOR 5) gradually .
12 English Listening to FM and AM Broadcasts T uning in to a Station 1 Press FM/AM to select the band. The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the previously recei ved station—either FM or AM. • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM.

14 English Disc Introduction This unit has been designed to playback the following CDs: • CD (Audio CD) • CD-R (CD-Recordable) • CD-R W (CD-Rewritable) • MP3 disc (MP3 files recorded on a CD-R or CD-R W) What is MP3? MP3 is an abbre viation of Motion Picture Experts Group 1 (or MPEG-1) Audio Layer 3.
15 English Playing Back Discs (CD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3) When playing a CD-R or CD-RW User-edited CD-Rs (CD-Recordable) and CD-R Ws (CD-ReWritable) can be played only if they are already “finalized. ” • Usually you can play back your original CD-Rs or CD- R Ws recorded in music CD format.
16 English ■ For MP3 discs 1 Load a disc. The unit searches for the disc (it may take some time), and the follo wing information appears on the display (the group title will scrolls on the display). 2 Press ¢ NEXT or PREV 4 (or ¢ NEXT/PREV 4 on the r emote control) to select a group y ou want, then press CD 3 / 8 .
17 English Programming the Playing Order of the T racks — Program Play Y ou can arrange the order in which tracks play befor e you start playing. Y ou can pr ogram up to 50 tracks. On the remote contr ol ONL Y : 1 Load a disc. • If the current playing source is not the CD player , press CD 3 / 8 , then 7 before going to the next step.
18 English Prohibiting Disc Ejection — T ray Lock Y ou can lock the disc tray and prohibit ejecting the disc whether the unit is on or of f. On the unit ONL Y : T o prohibit disc ejection, press CD ‹ / 8 while holding 7 . • If the disc tray is opened, close it first.
19 English Using the Video CD Player (Video CDs) Y ou can play video CDs (with or without the Playback Control (PBC) function) to watch the picture on your TV while listening to the sound through your JVC Micro Component System. Befor e playing video CDs Make sure that the connection between the System and your TV is correct.
20 English Playing Video CDs with the PBC Function Using the Menu Screen (Menu-Driven Play) Before playing, make sure that Repeat indicator “ ” or “ ALL ” is not lit. If lit, press the REPEA T b utton on the Remote Control until the repeat indicator goes of f.

22 English Display of Operating Status Y ou can vie w the current operating status on the TV screen. Press the ON SCREEN button. Pressing the abov e button alternates between on-screen display ON and OFF . • Once you hav e turned on the on-screen display , the track number and playing time are always displayed on the TV screen.
23 English Playing Back T apes Y ou can play back type I tapes. Playing Back a T ape 1 Press PUSH OPEN 0 on the unit. 2 Put a cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Press PUSH OPEN 0 again to close the cassette holder . 4 Press T APE 2 3 .
24 English Recording Recording on a T ape On the unit ONL Y : 1 Put a recordable cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down. 2 Close the cassette holder gently and check the recording dir ection f or the tape. • If the tape direction is not correct, press T APE 2 3 twice then 7 to change the tape direction.
25 English Disc Direct Recording Everything on the disc goes onto the tape in the order it is on the disc, or according to the order you hav e set in Program Play . On the unit ONL Y : 1 Put a recordable cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down.
26 English Using the Microphone and Multiplex CDs By plugging in the microphone, you can use the System for Karaoke or microphone mixing. Y ou can also add an echo to the microphone’ s sound. Karaoke and microphone mixing ar e only av ailable when y ou select the CD source with a playable disc inside.
27 English Microphone mixing is not av ailable for other sources such as T ape, T uner or Aux. 4 Adjust the main volume and the MIC V OLUME control as y ou sing into the microphone. • T o apply echo, pr ess the DIGIT AL ECHO button on the Remote Control until “ECHO ON” appears on the display .
28 English Using the T imers There are three timers av ailable—Daily T imer, Recording T imer , and Sleep T imer . Before using the timers, you need to set the unit’ s clock (see page 9). Using Daily Timer and Recor ding Timer Y ou can set the timer whether the unit is on or of f.
29 English 5 Press UP or DO WN to set the volume level, then press CLOCK/TIMER. • Y ou can select the volume le vel (“V OLUME – –” and “V OLUME 0” to “V OLUME 40”). If you select “V OLUME – –, ” the volume is set to the previous le vel when the unit was turned of f.
30 English Maintenance Handling cassette tapes • If the tape is loose in its cassette, take up the slack by inserting a pencil in one of the reels and rotating. • If the tape is loose, it may get stretched, cut, or caught in the cassette. • Be careful not to touch the tape surface.
