– 9 – English Common Operations Setting the Clock Before operating the unit any further , f irst set the clock built in this unit. When you plug the AC po wer cord into the wall outlet, “0:00” starts flashing on the display . Y ou can set the clock whether the unit is on or of f.
– 10 – English T urning On the Power When you press the play b utton—CD 3 / 8 , T APE 2 3 , FM/AM and A UX/MD, the unit automatically turns on and starts playback if the source is ready . T o tur n on the unit, press ST ANDBY/ON . The ST ANDBY/ON lamp lights green and “HELLO” appears on the display .
– 11 – English Reinforcing the Surround Effect (ONL Y FOR UX-L40) Y ou can reinforce the surround effect. • This function does not af fect —your recording. —playback sound of the monaural sources. T o get the effect, press SURR OUND so that the SURR OUND indicator lights up on the display .
– 12 – English Listening to FM and AM Broadcasts T uning in to a Station 1 Pr ess FM/AM to select the band. The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the previously recei v ed station (either FM or AM). • Each time you press the b utton, the band alternates between FM and AM.

General Notes In general, you will hav e the best performance by keeping your CDs and the mechanism clean.
– 15 – English T o go to another track directly using the number buttons On the remote contr ol ONL Y : Pressing the number button(s) allo ws you to start playing the track number you want. Ex.: For track number 5, press 5. For track number 15, press +10, then 5.
– 16 – English Repeating T racks — Repeat Play Y ou can have all the trac ks, the program or individual track currently playing to repeat as many times as you like. On the remote contr ol ONL Y : T o r epeat playing, press REPEA T before or during playing.

– 18 – English Recording Recording on a T ape On the unit ONL Y : 1 Put a recordable cassette in with the e xposed part of the tape down. 2 Close the cassette holder gently and check the recording dir ection f or the tape. • If the tape direction is not correct, press T APE 2 3 twice then 7 to change the tape direction.
– 19 – English CD Direct Recording Everything on the CD goes onto the tape in the order it is on the CD, or according to the order you ha ve made for Program Play . On the unit ONL Y : 1 Put a r ecordable cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down.
