Use care when handling the softener . DO NOT turn upside down. DO NOT drop, or set on sharp objects that could make a hole in the bottom.
6 Plan Y our Installa tion PLAN YOUR INST ALLA TION It is recomended to read through the entire manual before beginning your installation. Follow all step s exactly .
7 Plan Y our Installa tion T ypical Inst allation 1. Place as close as possible but always after , the pressure tank (well water) or water meter (city water). See Fig. 3. 2. Place as close as possible to a water drain such as a floor drain, laundry tub, sump or stand pipe.
8 Plan Y our Installa tion Suggested Slab Foundation Inst allation Plug the softener transformer into an inside, 120 volt 60Hz electrical outlet. If an outside outlet is used, be sure it has approved weather protection. Run drain tubing to laundry tub or p-trap inside home, if possible.
9 PIPE, FITTINGS, OTHER MA TERIALS NEEDED Y ou must first decide how to run “in” and “out” pipes to the softener . Look at your house main water pipe at the point you will connect the softener .
10 R ead Before Be ginning Installation BEFORE INST ALLING CHECKS & TESTS Y our water supply needs to be checked for chemical analysis, water pressure and water flow rate.

12 Install 3-V alv e Bypass INST ALLING 3 V AL VE BYP ASS AND PIPES Complete the following steps to inst all the three (3) valve bypass: • Cut the house main water pipe where you will con- nect the softener . • Loosely put together pipe, fittings, and the three (3) valves.

14 Connect V alv e and Salt T ank Dr ains CONNECT THE V AL VE DRAIN HOSE T ake a length of 3/8” inside diameter drain tubing and attach one end to the drain fitting. See Fig. 16. Use a tube clamp to hold it in place. Put the other end of the tubing over a floor drain, into a laundry tub, stand pipe, or other suitable drain.
15 Leak T est LEAK TEST T o check for leaks, complete the following steps: CAUTION: T o avoid water or air pressure dam- age to softener inner parts, and to flush pipe chips or other residue from the water pipes, be sure to do the following steps exactly as instructed.
16 Electrical R equir ements INST ALL GROUNDING CLAMP BETWEEN THE SOFTENER IN AND OUT PIPES The house cold water pipe (iron or copper) is often used to ground all electrical outlets in the home. Outlets are grounded to protect you from shock when you touch any electric appliance plugged into the out- let.

18 Pr og r am T he Timer SET PRESENT TIME OF DA Y If the words PRESENT TIME do not show in the display , press the SELECT1 button until they do show in the dis- play . Press the UP or DOWN buttons to set the present time. Press UP to move the display ahead; press DOWN to move the time backward.
19 Sanitize T he W ater Softener SANITIZE THE W A TER SOFTENER Care is taken at the factory to keep your water sof tener clean and sanitary . Materials used to make the softener will not infect or contaminate your water supply , or cause bacteria to form or grow .
20 Adding Salt T o T he Stor a ge T ank ADDING SAL T TO THE STORAGE T ANK Brine (salt dissolved in water) is needed for each and every regeneration. The water for making brine is metered into the salt storage tank by the sof tener .

22 5. If you wish to turn the salt monitor off, press the SET LOW SAL T LIGHT button until OFF shows above. NOTE: Y our salt monitor is an estimate of your salt level; accuracy depends on the type of salt used and other regeneration characteristics.

When this feature is ON, the softener will auto- matically recharge when 97% capacity has been used, at any time of day .

26 Ho w Y our W a ter Softener W or ks FIG . 50 SOFT W A TER SER VICE AND REGENERA TION SERVICE When the softener is giving you sof t water , it is called “Service”. During service, hard water comes from the house main water pipe into the softener .
27 Ho w Y our W a ter Softener W or ks SOFT W A TER SER VICE AND REGENERA TION BRINING: During brining, the brine is moved from the salt storage area, into the resin tank. Inside the resin tank, brine cleans hardness minerals from the resin beads and they are discharged out the drain.
28 Ho w Y our W a ter Softener W or ks F AST RINSE: Backwash is followed by a fast flow of water down through the resin tank. The fast flow packs the resin bed and gets it ready for return to service. After fast rinse, the sof tener returns to service.
29 Car e Of Y our W a ter Softener FIG . 54 SAL T BRIDGE Sometimes, a hard crust or salt bridge forms in the salt storage tank. It is usually caused by high humidity or the wrong kind of salt. When the salt bridges, an empty space forms between the water and salt.
