The f our -patch ribbo n contai ns three dye pat ches (yello w , magenta, and cyan) and th e protective coa ting patch . The three- color , XTRALIFE ribbon co ntains eno ugh dy e to make 100 p rints.
Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 13 Remo ving the R ibbon Ca rtrid ge 1. Place your finger in the opening at the top o f the ribbon car tridge door . Pull the door toward you to open it. 2. Push up on the green lever to release the ribbon cartridge. 3. Remove the cartridge.

Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 15 CAUTION: Make sure that you check the label on your paper tray top before you load paper . If the tray top does not ma tch the paper you load, you may hav e poor imag e qualit y and damage the pri nt e r . IMPOR T ANT : Do not r e mo ve the paper tray while the printer is printing.

Place a stack of no more than 100 sheets of p aper , shiny side up for photo paper and sticker side up fo r stic ker paper , (Kodak logo f acedown fo r both) at a slight angle in the tray. 4. Push the paper agains t the i nte r nal si d e bias sp ri ng s an d un der the right corn er nail .

18 Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 2. Follow the on-screen ins tructions. When yo u are prompted to s elect a manufacturer and printer , insert the CD that came with your printer into your CD-ROM drive and click Have Disk. 3. Click Browse and locate the d rive and folder th at contains the OEMSETUP .

Befor e you install this driver , you may need to configu r e the parallel p ort mode of yo ur host co mputer to EC P mode.

Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 23 W orking with th e Prin ter Follow these guidelines: • Do NOT overload the pa per tr ay . W e suggest loading no mor e than 1 00 sheets of pa per . • Do NOT remove prints from the output tray unti l the pr int er ejects them.
24 Photo P rinter 47 00 Series Choosin g the Printer Featu res on WINDOWS 95 and WINDOWS 98 Systems On WINDOWS 95 and WINDOW S 98 sy stems, the Paper and the Device Options tabbed pages are th e only ones in which the printer d river and the printer interact.
Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 25 What Y ou Can D o on the Paper T abbed Page Paper size — allows you to specify the s ize of your ou tput. 4x7 in — produces a 4 x 7 inch (102 x 178 mm) image. 4x6 in — produces a 4 x 6 inch (102 x 152 mm) image. Border — produces a bordered, 4 x 6 inch (102 x 152 mm) print .

Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 27 What Y ou Can D o on the Device Options T abbed Page Print Quality — allows you to sharpen an image to make edges crisper and details more no ticeable. The following cho ices are available. No Sharpenin g — no enhancement of details is added.
28 Photo P rinter 47 00 Series Choosi ng the P rinter Feature s on a WIND OWS NT 4.0 System On a WINDOWS NT 4.0 system the Pag e Setup and Advanced tabbed pages are the only ones in which the printer dri ver and the printer interact. The other tabbed pages are p rovided by the oper ating system and are not discussed in th is manual.

Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 33 3 T roubleshooting and Maintaining the Printer This chapt er descr ibes the pr oblems you m ay occa sionally hav e with the p rinter . Information on how to solve these p roblems as well as printer maintenance procedures are als o included.
34 Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 3. Press down on the locking tab on the paper jam access area. Remo ve the pap er jam access area door . 4. Remove the pa per from th e paper jam access area. 5. Replace the paper jam access area door . Make sure both locking tab s are secure.
Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 35 Cleani ng the P rint He ad and the Plat en Rol ler Lines or streaks on your p rints indicate that the therma l print head and/or the platen roller need c leaning. T en alcohol pads for cleaning the thermal print head are included with your printer .
36 Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 7. Locate the thermal print head and the platen roller . 8. Remove an alco hol pad from its packaging. Move the pad along the complete length of the thermal print head, in one direction only , as follows. — Apply firm, even press ure.

38 Photo P rinter 47 00 Series Cleani ng the P ick Rol ler Occasionally , dust and paper particles collect on the printer ’ s pick roller which pulls paper from the paper tray . These accumulations can prevent the p ick roller from pul ling the pap er .
Photo P rinter 47 00 Series 39 Cleani ng the P rint er T o help ensure good printer performance and high-quality o utput, be sure the printer ’ s operating environment is clean and d ust-free. Clean the p ri nter r egular ly as des c ribed below . Before y ou begin, turn the pr inter power o ff and unplug t he power cord.
40 Photo P rinter 47 00 Series Resolv in g Error Mes sages Error messages appe ar on the host comp uter and indicate that a pr inter or system problem has occurred. When an error messa ge appe ars you c a n: • Click Retry to rese nd th e job. • Click Cancel to cancel the job.
