1 Chapter 1 Inst allation Installing the Printer Driver in Windows A printer driver is an application that sends do cumen ts to the printer . Install the printer driver from the supplied Kyocera So ftw are Library CD -ROM. Once installed, a variety of printer settings can be configured.
2 3 Insert the Kyocera Software Libr ary CD-ROM into the CD drive. Once the installatio n pr ogram launches, the License Agreement appears. 4C l i c k View License Agreement to display and read the License Agreement. 5C l i c k Accept to proceed to the Main Menu dialog box.
Inst allation 3 6C l i c k Install KX Driver . 7 The W elcome to the Kyocera Print er Inst allation Wizard dialog box appears. Click Ne xt . 8 The Local or Network Con nection dialog box appears.
4 9 The Select Printer Model dialog box appears. From the li st , select the Manufacturer and corresponding Printers you wish to connect, and click N ext . • If the Found New Hardwa re dialog box appears, click Cancel . • If the Hardware Inst allation warning dialog box appears, cl ick Continue Anyway .
Inst allation 5 10 The Select the Printer Port dialog box appears. Select LPT1: from Use the following port: , and then click Next . 11 T h e Name Y our Printer dialog box appears. Select Ye s or No to use the printer as the default printer for W indows-based programs.
6 13 The Print T est Page dialog box appears. • Select Y es (r ecommended) to print a test page to confirm the proper operation of your printer and click Next . If the test page does not print properly , click T roubleshoo t to determine the problem.
Inst allation 7 16 Choose from one of the following options: • Select Ye s and click Next to instal l addi tional printer drivers. The New Printer Installation dialog box appears. • Select No to complete the installation and click Finish . The installation of the printer is now co mplete.
8 4 Once the inst allation program launches, the Licen se Agreement dialog box app ears. Click View License Agreement to display and read the License Agreement. 5C l i c k Accept to proceed to the Main Menu dialog box. 6C l i c k Install KX Driver . 7 The Welcome to the Kyocera Printer Installation Wizard dialog box appears.
Inst allation 9 8 The Local or Network Con nection dialog box appears. Sel ect Local C onnection and click Next . 9 The Select Printer Model dialog box appears. From the li st , select the Manufacturer and corresponding Printers you wish to connect, and click N ext .
10 • If the Network Printer Port Monitor dialog box appears, select Ye s and then click Next . 10 The Select the Printer Port dialog box appears. Select USB port (for example, USB001 or KMUSB001) from the listed ports, then click Next and proceed to step 14 .
Inst allation 11 1 1 Select KM USB Port: from the Create a new port type list, then click Next . 12 The KM USB Port monitor dialog box appears. Confi rm the Port name and click Advanced... . 13 The Serial number list appears. Confirm th e serial number and click OK .
12 Select Ye s or No to determine whether to use the printer as the default printer for W indows-based programs. Click Next . 15 The Printer Sharing dialog box appears. Choose from one of the fo llowing options. • Select Do not share this printer to limit the user access to this printer and click Next .
Inst allation 13 17 The Confirm Settings dialog box appears. V erify th e printer settings and click Install . The printer driver installat ion begins. 18 Once the installati o n is co mp let e , t he Printer Inst alled Suc ces sfully dialog box appears.
14 The installation of the printer is now co mplete. If prompted, restart you r sy stem. Network Connection This section describes how to install the printer driver when connecting to a network printer . T o install using a Network Con nection: 1 Ensure the computer and printer are turned off.

16 8 The Local or Network Con nection dialog box appears. Sel ect Network Co nn ection and click Next . 9 The Locate Y our Printer dialog box appears. Select one of the following search methods: • T ype the printe r name... : Leave the printer name blank and click Next .
Inst allation 17 10 The Default Printer dialog box appears. Select Ye s or No to determi ne wheth er to apply the selected printer as the default prin ter fo r all W indows-b ased applications. 11 T h e Confirm Setti ngs dialog box appears. V erify the printer settings and click Install .
18 13 The Printer Inst alled Successfully dialog box displays. Choose from one of the followi ng options. • Select Ye s to install addi tio nal printers and then click Next . The New Printer Inst allation d ialog box appears. • Select No to complete the installation, and click Finish .

22 12 In the Enter the IP address or host name of the print server dialog box, en ter the IP Address or Host Name and click Next . • Click Search... if the IP Address or Host Name is not kn own . A list of available network printers displays. Select the network printer, then click OK .
Inst allation 23 Select Ye s or No to determine whether to use the printer as the default printer for W indows-based programs. Click Next . 16 The Printer Sharing dialog box appears. Choose from one of the fo llowing options. • Select Do not share this printer to prevent other users from accessing this printer and click Next .
24 18 The Confirm Settings dialog box appears. V erify th e printer settings and click Install . The printer driver installat ion begins. 19 Once the installati o n is co mp let e , t he Printer Inst alled Suc ces sfully dialog box appears. • Select Y es (recommended) to install optional compon ents and click Next .
Inst allation 25 Instal ling Components Y ou can expand the fun ctions of your printer driver by installing component s that compliment the ways in which you utilize your printer. For more in formation on profiles, refer to Sav ing Profiles on page 125.
26 2 The Select Comp onents dialog box appears. Select the check box of the co mponents you wish to install, and click Next . Follow the instructions in the dialog box to proceed. • The Confirm Settings dialog box appear s. V erify the se lected component items , and click Install .
Inst allation 27 The installation of the printer driver is now complete . If prompted, restart yo ur system . Installing the Latest Printer Driver The latest Kyocera printer driver can be obtained from http://www .kyoceramita.com/ download/ , and can be installed using the Windows Add Printer Wizard .
28 3 The Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard dialog box appears. Cli ck Next and fo llo w the instructions. 4 When the Completing the Add Printer Wizard dialog box appears, click Finish . 5 The Hardware Installation dialog box appears and the Hard ware In stallation warning message may display .
29 Chapter 2 Printer Properties This section explains how to customize th e install e d pri nter driv er set tings including: • Accessing Printer Properties • Installing Optional Devices • User .
30 Installing Optional Devices If you use optional devices such as a paper feeder , finisher or an additio nal hard disk, sp ecify the device on the Device Settings tab of the device properties.
Printer Properties 31 3 Select the check box of an optional device show n in blu e, (such as the Finisher opti ons), and a sub-dialog box appears with addition al setting details. 4I n t h e Memory box, select the memory capacity of your printer . This setting is required to optimize the downloading of printer fon ts.
32 Booklet S titcher Punch Settings The Booklet Stitcher feature allo ws you to set the nu mber of holes punched in each printed page. If you enable the Booklet Stitcher check box in the Device Options list, the Punch Unit Setting dialog box appears.
Printer Properties 33 RAM Disk Settings The RAM Disk functions as a hard disk saving print requests into th e prin ter ’ s memory if a hard disk for printing is not in stalled. When a hard disk is installed, the RAM Disk fun ction is inactive. T o change RAM Disk setting: 1I n t h e Device Options list, enable the RAM Disk check box.
34 User Settings The following user information can be configured by clicking Us er ... on the Device S ettings tab. • Identification • Unit of Measurement • Language Preference Selection • Si.
Printer Properties 35 In the User Setting s dialog box choose from inches or mi lli met ers. Language Preference Selection The Language Preference option specifies the lan guage of the driver tab s excludi ng General, Sharing, Ports, Advanced, Color Management, and Security .
36 When this option is checked, Printer Properties appears in a simplified version when accessed from the Print dialog box of an application. The simplified user interface is shown below . Page Description L anguage (PDL) Settings Y ou have the optio n to chang e the Page Description Languag e (PDL) by clicking PDL on the Device S ettings tab.
Printer Properties 37 2 The PDL Settings dialog box appears. Select select the desired languatge from the Page Description La nguage list. Refer to the table below for optio ns and descrip tions. 3 Settings... is available when the PDL is set to KPDL, and when PCL XL is selected on some models.
38 KPDL Administrator Settings The following settings can be specified by click ing Administrator ... on the Device Settings tab. W e recommend that the Administrator Settings should only be changed by the system administrator or autho rized personnel.
Printer Properties 39 Job Name Display Y ou can specify setting s to display the job name, user name, or department for the current job on the printer's operator panel." 1O n t h e Device Settings tab, click Administrator ... . 2 The Administ ra to r Set tings dialog box appears.
40 T o set the Administrator password: 1 Select the Lock these Settings check box to access the Set Password dialog box. 2I n t h e Set Password dialog box, enter the new password in the New password field. Re-enter the password in the Confirm new password field and click OK .
Printer Properties 41 2 The Enter Password dialog box appears. Enter the password and click OK . 3 The Administ ra to r Set tings dialog box appears. Clear the Lock thes e Settin gs check box. A Password message appears. 4C l i c k OK . Refer to Setting the Administrator Passw ord on page 39 to enter a new passw ord .
42 2 The Comp atibility Settings dialog box appears. From the list in the Media Source Enumeration area, select the paper supply method. The current value is listed in the Enumera ted V alue box. 3 Enter the new value for the Enumerated V alue and click Apply .
Printer Properties 43 5 Select the Ignore Application Collati on check box to by pass th e Collate setting in the application, and give priority to the print er driver setting.
44 An “in progress” me ssage will appear . The check box setting s on the Device Options list w ill be changed and the 3D image w ill be updated according to the device options installed. Memory a nd RAM Disk information will also change based on the setting information return ed.
Printer Properties 45 1 When the W indow s Securi ty alert shown above appears, click Unblock to allow communication between the printer and yo ur com puter . When you click Unblock, Auto Confi gure is added to the W indows Firewall exceptio n list, as shown in the example below .

47 Chapter 3 Printing from Applications This section describes the following printing tasks when print ing from Microsoft Windows applications. • Basic Printing T asks • Duplex Printing • Revers.
48 3C l i c k Printer Name to open a list of installed printers. Select the desired printer . 4 Specify the number of copies to print in the Number of copies field. Y ou can print up to 999 copies. When printing two or more copies, enabl e the Collate check box for collation.
Printing from Applicati ons 49 5C l i c k OK . 6C l i c k Properties... to access the Properties dialog box. 7 On the Media tab, clic k the Page Size list and select the appropriate page size.
50 8 Choose either Portrait or Landscape to match the document page orient ation. Y ou can rotate the document 180 degrees by enabling the Rotated check box.
Printing from Applicati ons 51 Using a Different Print Si ze This section describes how to print documen ts of different sizes than the original document. The document image is automatically adju sted to match the output page size. 1I n t h e Properties dialog box, click the Media tab.
52 2 Specify the number of source pages in the Pages p er Sheet list . Y ou can select the horizontal direction fo r the pag e layout using Layout (Se qu ence) . Scaling Based on the page and print size specified in the Print Size on the Media tab, you can reduce or enlarge the image from 20 to 50 0% before printi ng.
Printing from Applicati ons 53 2 If you click Advanced... , you can adjust the outside margins in a range from 5.0 to 25.4 mm. • For outside margins to the left of the page, enter a number into the Lef t (Long Edge) - Width box. • For outside margins to the top of the page, enter a number into the T op (Short Edge) - Width box.
54 3 Access the printer Properties and click the Media tab. 4 Select the document paper size from the Page Size list. 5F r o m t h e Media T ype list, select the type of media fo r print ing, then click OK . 6 Options available in the Media T ype list are as follows.
Printing from Applicati ons 55 Once printing begins, the printer automa ti cally selects the paper to match the paper size and specified media type. Printing on Paper of Non-S tandard Sizes The printer can print on custom sizes of paper by defining them as custom paper sizes.
56 5C l i c k Custom... . The Custom Paper Sizes dialog box appears. 6C l i c k Add... . The Add Paper Size dialog box appears. Enter a name for your custom paper size in the Name field. 7 Enter the measurements in the Height an d Width boxes in mi llimeters or inches.
Printing from Applicati ons 57 9C l i c k OK to save the page size and return to the Custom Paper Si zes dialog box. Confirm the name of paper size you just added. 10 Click OK . Repeat the steps above if you want to add other custom pa per sizes. A maxim um of 20 different paper sizes can be added.
58 3 Select the source cassette for the custom paper from the Source list. 4C l i c k OK to return to the Print dialog box. 5C l i c k OK to start printing.

60 The Print dialog boxes of some applicat ion s allow you to print just the odd or even pages so that you can use manual duplex, as shown in the two examples below .
Printing from Applicati ons 61 When using a network port , select Enable Manual Duplex on Network Port in the Comp atib ili ty Settin gs dialog box, accesse d from the Device Settings tab. Manual Duplex cannot be used on a network port in Windows 9x. T o print on both sides, follow these step s: 1I n t h e Me dia tab, select Cassette 1.
62 Reverse Order Printing Prints document pages in reverse order, from the last page to th e first. When heavy or other special pa pers are printed face up, the reverse order printing function places the order of pages into numerical order as shown below .

64 Printing W atermarks When printing using wat erm arks, your preferred te xt is printed in the do cu ment background. Y ou can choose one of fou r standard watermarks or enter your own text. Selecting the Watermark 1 From the application’ s Print dialog box, access the Properties .
Printing from Applicati ons 65 Adding W atermarks Y ou can enter the text for a new watermark. Th e text font, color , size, and style can be adjusted. 1 From the application’ s Print dialog box, access the Properties . (Select Print from the File menu and select Properties .
66 6 Enter a name for your watermark in the Watermark Description field, and enter the text to be printed as a watermark in the Watermark T ext field. 7I n t h e T ext Attributes section, specify the Font . Select a font from the Font list. 8I n t h e T ext Attributes area, specify the Color setting.
Printing from Applicati ons 67 10 In the T ext Attributes are a , specify the typeface Styl e . From the St yl e list, choo se from regular , itali c, bol d, or bold and italic. 1 1 Click OK . Selecting and Creating Custom Colors (Color printers only) In the Color setting , selecti ng the Custom option appears the standard Windows colors.
68 3 On the color matrix, enter t he numerical values for t he hue, saturation, and lu minosity levels. The created color appears in the Color/Solid box. • Hue and Saturation (Sat) A djustment: Click and drag the pointer left/right or up/down to adjust the hu e and saturat ion lev els.
Printing from Applicati ons 69 3 Specify the Te x t A n g l e . Click to select a preset Diagonal display (slanted to the upper right) or to select Angle , which allows you to enter your preferred angle (measured counterclockwise from 0 to 360 degrees).
70 2F r o m t h e W atermark Selection list, select the watermark text you wish to delete. Click Delete . 3C l i c k OK to confirm the deletion . Editing Added Watermarks Edit your own watermarks by following the st eps below . When editing you r added watermarks, you can change the watermar k text, font, color , size, and style.

74 Font Downloading This setting specifies the method used to send TrueT ype fonts to th e printer during printing. 1C l i c k Font Settings . The Font Settings dialog box appears.

80 3 Select the check box for your preferred settings. 4C l i c k OK . Color Correction Color Matching is used for greater consistency in color reproduction among various devices. It works by compensating for the diff erent color spaces of color printers.

89 Chapter 4 Using Optional Equipment This section describes useful functions of the printer dri ver . S taple The Staple feature is available on printers with an optional finisher installed. If a booklet stitcher unit is installed, the Booklet Printing feat ure is avai labl e.
90 T o set st ap ler settings: 1 From the application’ s Print dialog box, access Properties . (Select Pr int from the File menu and select Properties ). 2O n t h e Output tab, select Finisher (Face-down) from the Output to list. 3 Select the Stap le check box in the Fini shing Option s area.

92 4 Set either Finisher (Face-down) or Finisher (Face-up) as the output destination, then enable the Offset check box in the Finishing Option s section. 5C l i c k OK to return to the Print dialog box, and click OK to st art printing. After the first set is delivered, the second set will be deli vered offset to the side.

Using Optional Equipment 97 T o edit cover printing options: 1F r o m t h e Media for Cover list, selec t th e medi a ty pe or source cassette for the front and back covers. When you choose the media t ype, a source cassette matching that media is automatically selec ted.
98 2I n t h e Properties dialog box, click the Media tab, and then click Advanced... . 3 Select the Page Insert check box. Select the check box correspo nding to your desired page arrangement as shown in the following tab le. T o print on both the front and back of th e inserted page, enable the Print onto Front and Print onto Back check boxes.
Using Optional Equipment 99 I Combinations T o adjust media combina tion settings: 1 Enter the page number to insert. A page will be inserted between the page number you entered and the p age before it. Y ou can design ate for pages to be inserted starting from page 2 and ending on page 255.

Using Optional Equipment 103 Left-Edge and Right-Edge Binding Printing a four-page document as a booklet, for example, will resu lt in aut omatic duplex printing shown below . Y ou can choose between left-edge binding and right-edge binding. Using Booklet Pri nting 1 From the application’ s Print dialog box, access the printer Properties .
104 5 Click the Output tab, and set Finisher (Face-down ) for Output to . 6 Select the number of c opies you wish to print. 7 Select the Stap le check box. Booklet (Fold) printing is selected automatical ly . Click [...] to the right of the list and set the number of sheets to staple together .
Using Optional Equipment 105 Sorter Mode Differences Collating 1 Access the Properties and click the Output tab. Collating • Collating produces the specified num ber of copies as complete sets of documents in each tray . • The document is printed followi ng the page order and received in each tray .
