1 Unpack the printer Step 1: Unpac k the printer 1 Sel ect a l ocat ion f or y our pri nter . • Leav e enoug h room to open the pr inter c ov er , output door, and optio nal 250 -sheet t ra y . It is als o impor tant to allow sp ace around th e pr inter f or pr oper v entil ati on.
2 Unpack the printer If any items are m issing or damage d, refer to the Publications CD for the designa ted Lexmar k suppo r t phone number for y our c ountr y .
3 Install the opt ional 250-she et drawer Step 2: Install the optional 250- sheet dra wer Y ou can incr ease paper capaci ty with th e optional 250-she et drawer , which attaches under neath the p r inter. A draw er con sists of a tra y and a sup por t unit.
4 Install the opt ional 250-she et drawer Note: If you install t he opti onal 25 0-sheet drawer at a later ti me, be sure to tur n off the pr inter b ef or e install ing it . 4 Align th e pr inter with the front of the suppor t unit and place it on top of the sup por t unit.
5 Install p r inter su pplie s Step 3: Install printer supplies Installing th e print car tridg e Remo ving print car tridge pack aging 1 Use the fin ger tab to pu ll down the pri nter cover . 2 Grasp the c ar tr idge handle and pull the pr int car tr idge straig ht up.
6 Install p r inter su pplie s 4 Pull off the pla stic pi ece att ached to the ends of the pr int car tr idge. Disca rd the plas tic pi ece , f oam and paper. Note: Do not touc h the phot ocondu ctor drum on the bottom of th e pr int car tr idge. 5 Shake the car tr idge to distr ibute the ton er ev enly .
7 Install p r inter su pplie s 6 Inser t the pr in t car tri dge: a Align th e col ored arrow s on either side of the car tr i dge with the corr espondi ng arrows i n the pr inter . b Holding t he car tri dge by the handle, tilt t he car tr idge down and guide it between the pr int car t r i dge grooves .

9 Inst all memory car ds 2 Fir mly push in the two oval tabs as you pull open the si de cover . 3 Gently pul l off th e cover and set i t aside..
10 Inst all memory car ds Remo ving the system board shield Use a No. 2 Phillips screwdri ver to remove the system boar d shiel d. 1 Remov e the top screw and se t it aside. 2 Loosen t he bo ttom thr ee screws, but do not remove them. 3 Slide th e syst em bo ard shi eld along the top and bottom grooves and set i t asid e.

12 Inst all memory car ds Reinstalling the system b oard shield 1 Align th e metal shiel d between th e top and bo ttom grooves and sl ide i t all the way back. 2 Tighten the bottom three sc rews and reatta ch the top sc rew to k eep the sh ield in pla ce.
13 Inst all memory car ds Reattaching the printer side cover 1 Align the top and bottom tabs with the co rrespo nding slots. 2 As you close the pr inte r side cover , push the ov al tabs fir mly into th e slot s.
14 Load paper Step 5: Load paper Y our pr inter has two stand ard pape r sources: tray 1, which ho lds u p to 150 sheets of pla in paper, and a single-sh eet manual feed. Use tra y 1 for most pr int job s. U se t h e man ual f eed t o f ee d a single page, transp arency , env elope, label, or card s tock.
15 Load paper Loading tray 1 Use tray 1, which is beh ind the manual feed, to f eed paper and spe cial media . T ray 1 holds up to 150 shee ts of pa per , 10 sheets o f transp arenc ies or label s,10 env elopes,10 s heets of ca rd st ock. 1 Extend th e rear pa per supp or t un til you hear a cl ick .
16 Load paper 3 If loadin g: • letterhe ad pape r , inser t letter head with the to p of the page po inting down, f acing y ou • env elopes, in ser t them ver ti cally , flap side down with th e s.
17 Load paper 4 Extend th e front pape r suppor t o n the top out put bin until you hear a click . 5 If you are pr intin g on le gal s ize paper , compl etely extend the fr ont paper s uppor t. 6 Open the front outp ut door for a straight-thr ough p aper path if you are pr int ing on sp ecial media.
18 Load paper Loading th e optional 25 0-sheet tray 1 Grasp the tabs on either side of the tra y and pull it c omple tely out o f the pr inter . 2 Make sure the me tal pl ate is pressed down before inser ting the tra y into the pr inter . After the tray is inser ted, the metal plate spr ing s back up so th e paper can feed into the p rint er .
19 Load paper 3 If loadin g A4 or legal s ize pape r , ex tend the pape r suppo r t on the front of th e tra y . 4 Flex the sheet s back and for th t o loosen them , f an the sheets on all four sides, and flex them again. 5 If loadin g letterhe ad pape r , inser t letterhe ad face down with the top of the page enter in g the pr inte r first.
20 Load paper . 6 Make sure the p aper is un der both cor ner bucklers an d lying flat in the tra y . Note: When you load th e tray , do not exceed the maximum s tack height in dicat ed by the label in the tray . Overfilling th e tray ma y caus e paper j ams.
21 Load paper 8 Reinstal l the tray , making sure i t is pushed a ll the way in. 9 Sele ct the pape r si ze and type from your software appli catio n. 10 Star t your pri nt job. Loading th e manual feed Use the ma nual feed to f eed media, one sheet at a time, into your printe r .

If t he CD au to launch es, exit the CD . Click Next. Note: Y ou need admin istrative access to insta ll pr inte r dr ivers on your compu ter .
