Section 1A. Setting Up Ser vice 3 Activating Y our Phone If y ou purchased your phone at a Sprint Store, your phone should be activated and r eady to use. If yo u received your phone in the mail and it is for a new Sprint account or a new line of service, y ou need to take a few steps to activate y our phone.

Hav e your contacts follow you when y ou change to another capable device. Contacts will be r epopulated on your new device as soon as it is activated.

Section 2A. Phone Basics 25 Saving a Phone Number Y our phone can store up to 7 phone numbers in each of 600 Contacts entries. Each entry’s name can contain 64 characters. Y our phone automatically sorts the Contacts entries alphabetically . (For more information, see “Contacts” on page 82.
Dialing and Saving Phone Numbers With P auses Y ou can dial or save phone numbers with pauses for use with automated systems, such as voicemail or credit car d billing numbers. Ther e ar e two types of pauses av ailable on your phone: Hard Pause sends the ne xt set of numbers when you pr ess .

(T o select the T9 Word mode when entering text, see “Selecting a T ext Input Mode” on page 28.) T9 T ext Input uses an intuitive wor d database to analyze the letters you enter and create a suitable wor d.

Making a T eamDC Call 1. Pr ess Contacts (right sof tk ey) . – or – Pr ess > Histor y . 2. Select a T eamDC group and pr ess the Direct Connect button. 3. Continue the T eamDC call as any other Dir ect Connect or Group Connect call. 4. When you ar e finished, press to end the call.
Direct Connect T eamDC Call Information During a T eamDC call, the following information may appear on your screen: The name of the gr oup. The name or Direct Connect number of the person speaking. The number of T eamDC members who are connected to the call out of the number invited (for example, 4 out of 6) .
Saving a Direct Connect Number 1. Use your keypad to enter a Direct Connect number . The Dir ect Connect number may be the 1 0-digit wir eless phone number of the contact. – or – The Dir ect Connect number may be a unique number made up of three sets of digits separ ated by asterisks (for example, 444*5555*1 1 1 ).
Direct Connect Unblocking a Direct Connect Number 1. Pr ess > Contacts . 2. Highlight an entry and pr ess . 3. Select the DC-capable phone number . 4. Pr ess Options (right sof tk ey) > Allow DC . 5. Pr ess Allow (lef t softke y) to unblock the number .
T o create a Group Connect member list: 1. Pr ess > Contacts > Add New > New Group > Start (left sof tk ey). 2. Scr oll thr ough the av ailable entries and press after each entry you want to add to the Group. (A check mark will appear in the box ne xt to the selected entry .
Direct Connect Editing Gr oup Entries Y ou can add or remov e members or edit the name of a Gr oup you ha ve cr eated in your Contacts. 1. Display the Contacts list and scr oll to the Gr oup you want to edit. 2. Pr ess Options (right sof tk ey) > Edit Group .
Erase contact information from a lost phone. If your phone is lost or stolen, Sprint Mobile Sync can remotely r emov e all the contact information. Y ou can then send the information to your replacement phone. Import and expor t contacts with online address books.

Selecting Ringer T ypes for Messages 1. Pr ess > Settings > Sounds > Ringer T ype > Messages . 2. Select Voicemail , T ext Message , Picture Mail , VoiceSMS or Email . Display Settings Changing the T ext Greeting A te xt greeting is displa yed on your phone's screen in standby mode. Choose the phone’ s default greeting ( “Sprint”), or enter your own custom greeting. 1. Pr ess > Settings > Display > Main Screen > Foregrounds > Greeting .
Settings Slide Show Y ou can create a slide show scr een saver of up to nine images that will change continuously on your standby scr een. T o create a slide show: 1. Pr ess > Settings > Display > Main Screen > Slide Show . 2. Select a slide fr om 1 to 4 and pr ess .
Changing the Theme Color Customize y our phone’s display appear ance by selecting a color scheme to reflect y our personality. 1. Pr ess > Settings > Display > Main Screen > Skins . 2. Select an option and press . Changing the Dialing Font Choose the style of the dialing font to be display ed on your phone.
Settings Changing the Status Light Mode This featur e uses a blinking light to inform you of y our phone’s curr ent status. T o change the status light mode: 1. Pr ess > Settings > Display > Status Light . 2. Select On or Off and press . Display Language Y ou can choose to display your phone’s on-scr een menus in English or in Spanish.
When the Location featur e is on, your phone’s standby scr een will displa y the icon. When Location is turned off, the icon will be display ed. Messaging Settings Staying connected to y our friends and family has never been easier .

Using Special Numbers Special numbers ar e important numbers that you ha ve designated as being “always a vailable.” Y ou can call and r eceive calls fr om special numbers ev en if your phone is locked. Y ou can save up to 1 0 special numbers in addition to your Contacts entries (the same number may be in both dir ectories).
Security Resetting Y our P icture Mail Account This option r esets your authentication ID for your Sprint Pictur e Mail account. T o reset your Picture Mail account: 1. Pr ess > Settings > More... > Security and enter your lock code. 2. Select Delete/Reset > Reset Picture Mail .
Resetting Y our Phone Resetting the phone restor es all the factory defaults, including the ringer types and display settings. All data fr om Contacts, Messaging, Pictur es, My Contents, T ools, and Settings will be lost, and prefer ence set tings will be set to factory defaults.
Security T o enable Sprint Vision ser vices: 1. Pr ess > Settings > More... > Data > On/Off . (A message will be displa yed.) 2. Pr ess Ye s (right sof tk ey) to enable Vision service. Roaming Checking for V oicemail Messages While Roaming When you ar e roaming off the Sprint National Network, you ma y not receiv e on-phone notification of new voicemail messages.
Using Call Guard Y our phone has two ways of alerting you when y ou are r oaming off the Sprint National Network: the onscreen r oaming icon and Call Guar d. Call Guard mak es it easy to manage your roaming b y r equiring an extr a step befor e you can place or answer a roaming call.
Roaming Using Data Roam Guard Depending on service av ailability and roaming agr eements, your phone may be able to access data services while r oaming on certain digital systems. Y ou can set your phone to alert you when you ar e roaming off the Sprint National Network and try to use data services such as messaging.
