PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) Replacement Instructions Be sure to f ollow these instructions carefully . F ailure to follo w these instructions could result in damage to your equipment and ma y void your warr anty . F or this computer , you can replace memory in either the upper or lower RAM slot.
2 - PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) About Memory Y our computer comes with a minimum of 64 megab ytes (MB) of synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) installed in a RAM slot on the bottom of the processor module. On the top of the processor module is another RAM slot you can use to add additional memor y to your P o werBook.

4 - PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) 3 Make sure that the k e yboard loc king scre w is not in the loc k ed position. Y our ne w P owerBook comes with the k eyboard unloc ked, so unless you or someone else lock ed the keyboard, y ou can skip this step.
PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) - 5 5 Lift the top por tion of the P owerBook ke yboard up slightly near the top row of k eys and pull it back f ar enough to release the small tabs that hold the bottom of the ke yboard in place. 6 Flip the ke yboard over and la y it on the palm rests.
6 - PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) 8 With a Phillips screwdriv er , remov e the screws that secure the internal heat shield. . 9 Lift up the inter nal heat shield. 10 At this point, • Go to the section “Replacing RAM in the Upper RAM Slot” if you are replacing RAM in the top RAM slot.
PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) - 7 Replacing RAM in the Upper RAM Slot 1 After opening the computer (removing the k eyboard and heat shield), release the e xisting RAM e xpansion card at the two snaps so the card pops up . Then pull the e xpansion card out of the RAM e xpansion slot.
PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) - 8 2 Hold the replacement RAM e xpansion card at a 30-degree angle . Line up the notch in the card with the small tab in the RAM e xpansion slot. Then push the RAM e xpansion card into the e xpansion slot. W arning: When removing or installing the RAM car d, do not touc h its connectors.
PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) - 9 Replacing RAM in the Lower RAM Slot 1 After opening the computer (removing the k eyboard and heat shield), remov e the long screw (shown belo w) that secures the processor heat spreader .
PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) - 10 5 Inser t the new DIMM. W arning: When removing or installing the RAM car d, do not touc h its connectors. Handle the RAM card onl y by the edges. 6 Reinser t the processor module. (Make sure the tabs on the side of the module line up with the slots on the metal frame of the logic board.
PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) - 11 7 Press down v er y fir mly against the processor module until you f eel it securely attach to the connector on the logic board.
PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) - 12 Closing the Computer 1 After replacing RAM in the upper or low er RAM slot, inser t the inter nal heat shield. Important: When replacing the internal heat shield, make sure it does not cover the plastic tabs for the hard disk and optional AirPort Card.
PowerBook (FireWire) Memory (RAM) - 13 4 Pull down on the k eyboard release tabs (located to the left of the F1 and F9 ke ys) and then press down on the top por tion of the ke yboard. 5 Let go of the ke yboard release tabs to secure the keyboard in place .
