3 INST ALLA TION SQU ARE W A VE TIG 175 3 b) A 3/4 ” (19mm) galvaniz ed pipe or a 5/8 ” (16mm) solid galvaniz ed iron, steel or copper rod dr iv en at least eight f eet into the ground. The ground should be securely made and the ground- ing cable should be as short as possible using cable of the same size as the work cab le, or larger .

The r ubber str ain relief boot slips ov er the connection and adapter bloc k to pro vide shoc k pro- tection. T o av oid receiving a high frequency shock, k eep the TIG torch and cables in good condition.
5 INST ALLA TION SQU ARE W A VE TIG 175 5 REMO TE CONTROL CONNECTION A remote control receptacle is provided on the case front of the welder f or connecting a remote control to to the machine. Ref er to the Optional Accessories section of this manual f or other availab le remote controls.
6 OPERA TION 6 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Square Wa v e TIG 175 is a constant current, single range A C/DC TIG (GT A W) arc welding pow er source with built-in arc starter / stabilizer .
7 OPERA TION 7 1. PO WER SWITCH & LIGHT - T ur ns pow er on or off to the welder . When s witched “ ON ” , the cool- ing f an runs and the white light will illuminate indi- cating that the power is on.
8 OPERA TION 8 7. MODE SWITCH - A three position toggle switch used to select the welding mode . Ref er to WELD- ING IN THE STICK MODE, and WELDING IN THE TIG MODE(2-STEP AND 4-STEP) later in this sec- tion f or information on how the machine functions in each of these modes.
9 OPERA TION 9 (STEP 3) Second Press: The output ramps down to the le vel set with the Start/Crater Current control. The time it takes to r amp down is set with the Down slope Time control. (Appro x. 0.5 to 10 seconds) (STEP 4) Second Release: Output is tur ned off stop- ping the weld and a 15 second P ostflow of shielding gas is applied.
10 OPERA TION 10 the positiv e por tion may also cause the electrode to ov erheat at high currents causing “ tungsten spitting ” . The negativ e por tion of the A C wav e off ers no cleaning action but concentr ates more heat on the work. The AC wa vef or m of the Square Wa ve TIG 175 optimizes cleaning and heating of the work.
