GENERAL DESCRIPTION The DC-400 is a multiprocess welder power sour ce capable of both constant voltage and constant current operation. Its power system is SCR controlled with solid state electronic cir cuitry . Minimum to maximum output is obtained with a single potentiometer control.
OUTPUT MODE AND CONTROL, RECTIFICA TION AND FEEDBACK The three-phase AC output fr om the main transformer secondary is rectified and contr olled through the SCR/ diode bridge. Output current and voltage is sensed at the shunt and output terminals. This feedback infor- mation is processed in the contr ol board.
PROTECTIVE DEVICES AND CIRCUITS T wo thermostats protect the DC-400 fr om excessive operating temperatures and overload conditions. Excessive operating temperatures may be caused by insufficient cooling air or by operating the machine beyond the duty cycle and output rating.
SCR OPERA TION A silicon controlled r ectifier (SCR) is a three terminal device used to control rather lar ge curr ents to a load. An SCR acts very much like a switch. When a gate signal is applied to the SCR, it is turned ON and there is current flow fr om anode to cathode.
