4 Logitec h ® Befor e Y ou Begin If you already ha ve a wireless or ethernet netw ork and a computer to use as a server , setting up y our Squeezebox Duet should tak e about 30 minutes. T o make the set up as sim ple as possible, there are a f ew things you should do.
Squeezebox ™ Duet User Guide 5 WEP ke ys are entered as hex adecimal numbers (the numbers 0 to 9 • and the letters A t o F). 64-bit WEP ke ys are exactly 1 0 digits in length; 1 28-bit ke ys are exactly 26 digits.

10 Logitec h ® Install SqueezeCenter (Optional) SqueezeCenter is t he music server that runs on y our computer and connects your Squeezebo x players and contr ollers to your local music files, as well as allowing you t o use third-party plug-ins (applications that extend the features and functions of y our Squeezebox).

12 Logitec h ® If your wireless netw ork is secured, Squeezebox Controller will try to 6. determine t he type of security used. If the Controller can’t deter mine the type of encryption used, you will be asked t o select it from a list.
Squeezebox ™ Duet User Guide 13 Note: If y ou’ve installed SqueezeCent er and confirmed it is running, but your com puter name doesn’t appear on the Controller’s screen, you ma y hav e a firewall t hat’s preventing it fr om being found.
14 Logitech ® Next you’ll see t he Wireless Connection screen, where you can 5. choose t o “Connect using Squeezebox” or “Connect using other wireless network”. Since y ou will be using the hybrid installation, you should select “Connect using other wir eless network.

16 Logitech ® Bridged Network Configur ation This configuration should only be used if you do not ha ve a wireless network in your home. Y our Squeezebox R eceiver will be connect ed to your wired ethernet network, and Sq ueezebox Controller will use an ad-hoc connection to the R eceiver f or it’s network connection.
Squeezebox ™ Duet User Guide 17 Select your Squeezebo x Receiv er from the list. It will appear on the 7 . display as “Squeezebo x XXXXXX” where XXXXXX is the last six digits of the pla yer’s MAC address (its uniq ue network identifier).
18 Logitec h ® The Squeezebo x Controller Displa y Title Bar The title bar at the top of the screen displa ys the name of the current menu. It ma y also contain a thumbnail of cover art when you’re viewing information about an album.
Squeezebox ™ Duet User Guide 19 Status Bar The status bar appears at the bottom of t he screen and may displa y the follo wing icons or elements: Play/Pause – A pla y icon is displayed while t he player is playing audio. It is replaced b y a pause icon when the audio playbac k is paused.

These services help you find radio stations. Some of t hem of fer the ability to creat e an account so you can manage lists of stations and take adv antage of other personalization options.

26 Logitec h ® Appendix B: Button Color Codes The follo wing information cov ers the colors display ed by the butt on on Squeezebox R eceiver . It is useful f or troubleshooting. No light: Squeezebox R eceiver is OFF . Low white: Squeezebox R eceiver is ON but no music is pla ying.

If you are att empting to connect to Sq ueezeCenter and the light remains blue, t he most likely cause is a firewall running on t he computer on whic h SqueezeCenter is installed.
28 Logitec h ® Appendix C: Updating the Softwar e The software that powers y our Squeezebox Duet is periodically updat ed to impr ove reliability and add new f eatures. Updating Squeezebo x Controller Y ou’ll see a message on your Controller when a software update is a vailable.

Squeezebox ™ Duet User Guide 31 Appendix F: T roubleshooting When setting up the Controller , my netw ork does not appear . The most common cause is lack of signal strengt h. Either the Controller is t oo far awa y from the wireless r outer , or there is somet hing interfering with the signal.
32 Logitec h ® When setting up the Controller , no music sources appear . Normally , you will see an option f or SqueezeNetwork, as w ell as one or more computers running Sq ueezeCenter . The comput ers running SqueezeCenter will appear as they do t o the network; often the name will be somet hing similar to JOHN-SMITH-COMPUTER .

If it’s a default name, lik e NET GEAR or LINKSYS, consider changing y our network’s name to something uniq ue to be sure you’re not inadv er tently connecting t o a nearby wireless network with t he same name.
