1 Y our 841 1 V oice T erminal The 841 1 voice terminal is available in two models: the 841 1D, shown below in Figure 1 , has a display; the 841 1B does not have a display .
2 Starting with the upper righ t corner of Figur e 1 and continuing clockwis e: Display (on 841 1D terminal o nly) A 2-line by 24-char acter display . 4 Softkeys (on 841 1D terminal o nly) The four buttons located below the display and label ed with ar rows ( ), corres pond to words o n the display screen.
3 Message light A red light which goes on s teadily when a message has been left for you. Che ck wit h your sy stem m anager to s ee how yo u can retri eve your messag es. Dial pad The standard 12- button pad f or dialing ph one numb ers and acce ssing features.
4 V olume control button For adjusting the vol ume of th e follo wing: • The speakerphon e or speaker when a call is in progress using the 2-way speakerph one or 1 -way speaker • The handset recei.

7 The PassageW ay Connection The EIA RS-232 type jack on yo ur 841 1 voice terminal provides you with an interface between the voice terminal and the C OM port on an IBM-compatible p ersonal computer . This interface allows you to access Lucent T echnologies Passage W ay Solution software which yo u can install on you r PC.
8 PassageW ay Status Indica t ions The 841 1 provides the f ollowing status indica tions next to Butto n #9 for the Passag eW ay connection: 1. A Flash is a repeating pattern o f 500 ms ON an d 500 ms OF F . 2. A Wi n k is a repeati ng patt ern of 750 m s ON and 250 ms OF F .
9 The RED light next to Button #10 on the 8411 shows whether the Analog Adjunct OR the 841 1 voice terminal currently has control of the telephone line.
10 A Quick Look at the Features Here are brief des criptions of b oth voice features and display features that can be used with the 841 1 vo ice terminal.
11 Note: If yo u are a cove ring user , you can use the Cons ult feature, after ans wering a cover age call, to call the principal (th e person for whom yo u are answering calls ) for private co nsultation. Then, you can add the calling party to the conversation, transfer the call to the principal, or return to the calling party .
12 Priority C alling Allows y ou to call an extension with a distinctive 3-b urst ring to indicate your call requires immed iate attention. Use when you have impo rtant or timely inform ation for some one. Select Ri ng Allows you t o choose y our own persona lized ringin g patter n for your voice terminal from among eight available patterns.
13 Display Features and Features Used with the Softkeys Note: If yo u are using an 8411D voice terminal (which has a display), yo u can also use up to 12 additional features acces sed with the softkeys and display control b uttons. Your system m anager can tell you which s oftkey features are available to you.
14 How to Use the Features The procedu res which appear in the sections, V oice Feature Pr ocedures and Display Featur e Procedur es , give short, step -by-step instr uctions for using each feature. Fo r your conv enience, the features in each section are listed alphabetically .
15 Conventions Used in The Following Procedures This box represents a call appearance b utton, which is used exclusively for pl acing or rec eiving calls. Th e button has a r ed light and a green status light and is labe led with an extension number (sh own as xxxx x ).
16 Using the D isp lay , Softk eys and Disp lay Control Butto ns If you are using an 841 1D voice terminal (which has a display), the followin g inf orm atio n will help you use the display , th e so ftkeys, and the display control buttons. The softkeys are the f our key s labeled with arrows ( ) located directly below the display .
17 The second line on each feature option screen s hows the features y ou can access. T o use any of these features, yo u must press the softkey below the featur e name or abbrev iation.
18 Other Softkey Featur es Th at May Be On Y our Display Figure 5 shows the 12 default softkey features, thos e features that can be accessed with the softkeys when the 8411 D voice terminal is initially installed.
19 Using the Softkeys to Acti vat e a Feature Y our display and softk eys allow you to acces s up to 12 s witch-related features. For example, you may want to use the Priority Calling featu re to call an other extensi on with a distinctive 3-burst ring.
20 V oice Fe ature Procedures Handset and Speaker When placing calls or using the voice features, y ou have the op tion of doing so by lif ting the handset or by pressin g .

26 Y ou can access this feature with the softkeys only if you r voice terminal has a display and if the feature’ s abbreviation, CFrwd , appears on the second line of one of th e feature option screens.

34 Note: When you are talking on the handset, the Mute feature aff ects the microphone as sociated with the handset rather th an the speakerphon e. This feature has no effect on an extern al speakerphone attached to yo ur voice ter minal.

38 Note: Your voice terminal is set for either the Speaker (listen-only) or the Speakerphone (lis ten and talk) fun ction. Check with your s ystem manager to see which of thes e two features yo u can use. Use the following procedures if you r voice terminal is set for the Speaker (listen-only) featur e.

49 T ones and Their Meaning Ringing tones are produced by an in coming call. Feedback tones are those which you hear through th e handset (receiver) or the speaker . Ringing T ones • 1 rin g — A call from another ex tension. • 2 rin gs — A call from outsid e or fr om the attendant.
50 T rou blesho oting Problem Solution A feature doesn’ t work as noted in this guide. 1 R eread the p rocedure and try again. 2 For many featur es you must lift the handset before you can use the feature. 3 Check with your system manager to be sure this f eature is administered on your voice terminal.
