Introduction Congratulations on your pur chase of the Radium, part of the USB K eystation series of MIDI controllers br ought to y ou by M-Audio .Y ou ma y use y our Radium in conjunction with a USB equipped PC or Macintosh computer and appr opriate m usic softwar e to enter a full range of MIDI note and controller inf ormation.
Radium keyboard Overview The Radium is a fully functional MIDI contr oller . Its touch-sensitive k eys can be set to pla y any octa ve or transposed pitch, while the Radium’ s pitch wheel, mod wheel and data slider with the addition of sixteen pr ogrammable rotary knobs and sliders mak e it the most versatile MIDI contr oller of its class.
A Guide to Getting Started An outline of the steps needed to begin using your Radium on either a Mac or PC: 1. Attach the Radium to your computer (see “Hardware Installation”). 2. Install the Driver (see “Software Installation”). 3. Hook your sound module to the Radium (see “Setting Up Y our MIDI Studio”).
W indows XP 1. Insert the 'Radium' CD-R OM into your CD-R OM drive. 2. Open 'My Computer' or 'Windows Explor er' to locate your CD-R OM drive. Double-click the CD-R OM drive that contains the Radium CD-R OM. Double-click the 'Radium' folder .
7. Y ou will see a “New Hardwar e found” dialog. (If you don’ t see this dialog at first, unplug your Radium and tr y again.) Click Next. 8. Y ou will see another warning that the product has not passed Windows logo testing. Click "Continue anywa y".
11. Again, the computer reminds y ou that the product has not passed Windows Logo testing. Click "Continue anywa y". 12. The driv er has been installed. Windows XP Installation is now complete. W indows 2000 1. Ser vice Pack 2 or higher is r equired f or proper operation of the Radium driver .
The installer will scan your har d drive (this can tak e some time) and will then install the necessar y files and perform setup actions on y our system. A series of progr ess bars will show y ou how the pr ocess is going. 6. At the next prompt, the installer will warn you that this product does not ha ve a Windows Digital Signatur e.
10. The installer will now warn you, a second time , that this product does not ha ve a Windows Digital Signatur e - again, click “Y es”. Windows 2000 Installation is now complete. W indows Me and W indows 98 Second Edition 1. Insert the M-Audio Driver CD into your CD-R OM drive.
5. A dialog box will appear , stating that the installation has succeeded. Click “Finish” to complete the driver installation. 6. Plug the Radium MIDI interface into your USB port. Be sure to either ha ve the pow er supply connected and pow er switch set to 9V , or if not using pow er supply , be sure to set the pow er switch to USB P ower .
This release v ersion of the Radium driver r equir es Macintosh operating system OS 9.2.2 or higher . Some updates ar e offer ed free to Apple owners. Please check the Apple website at http://www .info .apple.com for update information. OMS is a MIDI manager program de veloped b y Opcode.
4. The “OMS Driver Sear ch” box asks y ou to choose the por t on which y ou’v e attached the Radium (either Modem or Printer). DO NO T choose a por t (since we’ re using USB), just click “Sear ch.
3. The MIDI Output of the Radium is connected to the MIDI In of a sound module. The audio output of the sound module can be plugged directly into a sound system, or into a mixer , which is then connected to a sound system.
Using the Radium with Y our Application Software Once the Radium driver has been installed, you will need to configur e y our MIDI a pplication softwar e to utilize the Radium. The manner in which this is done varies between a pplications, so we can just cov er the basics her e .
1. Po wer up the Radium using a 9VDC ada pter . Set the power switch to the the 9vDC setting. 2. Mak e sure that the MIDI port “transmit” channel within you music a pplication matches the MIDI “receiv e” channel of the other instrument. 3. Ref er to the diagram in the section, “Setting Up Y our MIDI Studio” for audio connections.
T op Panel Features 1. Pitch Bend Wheel: The Pitch Bend wheel is used for raising or low ering the pitch of a voice during perf ormance , star ting fr om and alwa ys returning to a center “detent” point. The range of pitch values depends on the sound generator (sound card or module) being used.
5. Octa v e Up & Octa ve Do wn Buttons: These buttons allow you to set the octa ve orientation of the Radium’ s ke yboard. 6. Data Entry Slider : This slide controller allo ws you to adjust the value of parameters such as V olume , V elocity , After touch, and vir tually an y assignable MIDI control parameter dir ectly fr om your k e yboard.
r epresents the contr oller’ s function or the Controller #, the D A T A ENTR Y slider will immediately function to select the transmitted value of that specific contr oller when the slider is mov ed. This can be v er y useful for manipulating various functions during actual performance, mixing or recording, etc .
2. Choose the number of the desir ed controller slider or knob , using the n umber k ey gr oup (1 - 16), then press the Enter k ey . The displa y will show a “P” in anticipation of the “parameter” number . 3. Assign the desired MIDI contr oller parameter number , using the number k ey group (1-127), then press Enter .
Number K eys: The Radium allows you to use the numeric k eys instead of the DA TA ENTR Y slider to specify the Contr ol Change parameter data.This is done by pressing the MIDI/SELECT button, CC (No. or Data) k ey , requir ed number ke y(s), and the Enter ke y .

Rear Panel Features 1. Sustain Jack - This jack allo ws you to connect an optional foots witch to the ke yboard. When the footswitch is depressed, notes pla yed on the k e yboard will continuously sound as long as the f ootswitch is held, while MIDI controller inf ormation is sent from the Radium.
