10 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 SECTION III INST ALLA TION PROCEDURES Installation should be performed by competent technicians in accordance with local and state codes. In the absence of these codes, the installation must conform to applicable American National Standards: ANSI Z223.

Exhaust T ransition Piece Inside the basket (tumbler) of this dryer is an exhaust transition piece that must be installed on the outlet of the exhaust before any further venting is connected: a . Remove the exhaust transition piece from the basket (tumbler) and place it on the exhaust outlet.

26 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 H. PREP ARA TION FOR OPERA TION The following items should be checked before attempting to operate the dryer: 1. Read ALL “ CAUTION ,” “ W ARNING ,” and “ DIRECTION ” labels attached to the dryer . 2. Check incoming supply voltage to be sure that it is the same as indicated on the dryer data label.
1 13395 - 6 Maytag Co. 27 I. PREOPERA TIONAL TEST ALL dryers are thoroughly tested and inspected before leaving the factory . However , a preoperational test should be performed before the dryer is publicly used. It is possible that adjustments have changed in transit or due to marginal location (installation) conditions.
28 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 The steam damper should not “slam” (open or closed) when it reaches the end of (piston) travel. Additionally , the steam damper should not bind and/or stop during travel. If either of these conditions occur , the flow control must be adjusted.
1 13395 - 6 Maytag Co. 29 J. SHUTDOWN INSTRUCTIONS If the dryer is to be shutdown (taken out of service) for a period of time, the following must be performed: 1. Discontinue power to the dryer either at the external disconnect switch or the circuit breaker .
30 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 L. COMPRESSED AIR REQUIREMENTS (MD-170 Only) The MD-170 model dryer requires an external supply of compressed air of 2.5 cfm at 80 psi (552 kPa). For steam models, compressed air is necessary for the air operated steam damper .
1 13395 - 6 Maytag Co. 31 M. STEAM INFORMA TION (MD-170 Only) It is your responsibility to have ALL steam plumbing connections made by a qualified professional to assure that the installation is adequate and conforms to local and state regulations or codes.
32 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 b. The steam supply line to the dryer must include a 12-inch (30.48 cm) riser along with a drip trap and check valve. This will prevent any condensate from entering the steam coil. c . Flexible hoses or couplings must be used.
1 13395 - 6 Maytag Co. 33 4. S team Damper Air System Connections The dryer is manufactured with a pneumatic (piston) damper system, which requires an external supply of compressed air .
34 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 6. S team Damper Air Piston (Flow Control) Operation Adjustment Although the steam damper operation was tested and adjusted prior to shipping at 80 psi (5.51 bar), steam damper operation must be checked before the dryer is put into operation.
1 13395 - 6 Maytag Co. 35 SECTION IV SER VICE/P AR TS INFORMA TION A. SER VICE Service must be performed by a qualified trained technician, service agency , or gas supplier . If service is required, contact the dealer from whom the Maytag equipment was purchased.
36 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 SECTION V W ARRANTY INFORMA TION A. RETURNING W ARRANTY CARDS Before any dryer leaves the manufacturer ’ s test area, a warranty card is placed on the back side of the main door glass.

CLEANING A program and/or schedule should be established for periodic inspection, cleaning, and removal of lint from various areas of the dryer , as well as throughout the ductwork system. The frequency of cleaning can best be determined from experience at each location.
38 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 STEAM DRYERS Clean the steam coil fins. Suggest using compressed air and a vacuum cleaner with brush attachment. NOTE: When cleaning steam coil fins, be careful not to bend the fins. If fins are bent, straighten by using a fin comb, which is available from any local air-conditioning supply house.
1 13395 - 6 Maytag Co. 39 B. ADJUSTMENTS 7 DA YS AFTER INST ALLA TION AND EVER Y 6 MONTHS THEREAFTER Inspect bolts, nuts, screws, setscrews, grounding connections, and nonpermanent gas connections (unions, shutoff valves, and orifices). Motor and drive belts should be examined.

42 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 SECTION IX REVERSING TIMER SPIN/DWELL ADJUSTMENTS T imer models have an electric reversing timer in the electric service box, which is located in the upper left rear area of the dryer .

44 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 2. For Models with Direct Spark Ignition (DSI) Module (T ype I) Theory of Operation: Start the drying cycle. When the gas burner ignites within the chosen trial for ignition time (6-seconds), the flame sensor detects gas burner flame and signals the DSI module to keep the gas valve open as long as there is a call for heat.
1 13395 - 6 Maytag Co. 45 SECTION XI SENSOR ACTIV A TED FIRE EXTINGUISHING (S.A.F .E.) SYSTEM (MICROPROCESSOR MODELS ONL Y) The exclusive fire suppression system will extinguish fires that may start in the drying basket (tumbler).
46 Maytag Co. 1 13395 - 6 OPTIONAL MANUAL BYP ASS Provisions are made in the dryer ’ s fire suppression system for the installation of an optional manual bypass. Depending on the model dryer , the connections for the manual bypass are made at the “T” or “three way” fitting located in the outlet supply side of the water solenoid valve.
1 13395 - 6 Maytag Co. 47 W ARNING: If the water in the supply line or water solenoid valve freezes, the fire suppression system will be INOPERA TIVE!! The manual ball cock shutoff valve must be located outside of the dryer at a distance from the dryer where it is easily accessible.
