Adjust the head restraint so that the top is even with the top of the passenger's ears, never the passenger's neck to prevent injury .

Black plate (24,1) q Seat Slide T o move the seat forward or backward, raise the bar and slide the seat to the desired position an d release the bar . Make sure the bar returns to its origi nal position and the seat is locked in place by attempting to push it forward and backward.

CAUTION When folding a seatback, always hold onto the seatback with your other hand while ope rating the lever.

Black plate (30,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to decrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. Y our vehicle has the following types of seat belts.
Black plate (31,1) WARNING Always wear your seat belt and make sure all occu pants are properly restrained: Not wearing a seat belt is extremely danger ous. During a collision, occupants not wearing seat belts could hit someone or things ins ide the vehicle or even be thrown out of the vehicle.
Black plate (32,1) CAUTION Belt retraction may become difficult if the belt s and rings are soiled, so try to keep them clean. For more details about cleaning the seat belts, refer to “ Cleaning the Lap/Shoulder Belt Webbin g ” (page 8-58).
Black plate (33,1) q Automatic Locking Mode Always use the automatic locki ng mode to keep the child-restraint system from shifting to an unsafe position in the event of an acciden t. T o enable seat belt automatic locking mode, pull it all the way out and connect it as instruct ed on the child-restraint system.

Black plate (36,1) Front Seat Belt Pretensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passenger seat belts are equipped with pretensioner and load limiting systems. For both these systems to work properly you must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (37,1) Have your seat belts changed immediately if the pretensioner or load limiter has been expende d: One or both front air bags may deploy, and the corresponding pretensioner(s) may also deploy at the same time.
Black plate (38,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System W arning Light If the air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system is working properly , the warning light illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position or after the engine is cranked.

Black plate (41,1) q Unfastening the Lap Portion of the Seat Belt Insert a small object such as a key in the anchor buckle (B) slot. (A) (B) CAUTION Always unfasten the lap portion of the belt before foldin g the left-rear seatback. Leaving the lap portion of the belt fastened could cause damage to the seat belt, buckle and seatback.
Black plate (42,1) T o pull out the seat belt, press the area indicated in the figure upward with your finger and slide the belt forward. Then slowly pull out the seat belt from the ceiling recess. NOTE Pulling out the seat belt all the way out will switch it to automatic locking mode.
Black plate (43,1) WARNING Do not use a seat belt extender unless it is necessar y: Using a seat belt extender when not necessary is danger ous. The seat belt will be too long and not fit properly. In an accident, the seat belt will not provide adequate protec tion and you could be seriously injur ed.
Black plate (44,1) Seat Belt W arning Light/Beep The seat belt war ning light illuminates and a beep sound will be heard if the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.

Black plate (46,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of child-restraint syst ems for children smal l enough to use them. Y ou are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (47,1) WARNING Use the correct size child-restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accident s and sudden stops, a child must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-restraint system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident.
Black plate (48,1) Do not install a front-facing child-restraint system on the front passenger seat unless it is unavoidable: In a collision, the fo rce of a deploying air bag could cause serious injury or death to the child.

Black plate (62,1) Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Precautions The front and side supplementa l restraint systems (SRS) incl ude up to 6 air bags. Please verify which kinds of air bags are equipped on your vehicle by locating the “ SRS AIRBAG ” location indicators.

All doors and the liftgate will automatically unlock if they are locked using the power door locks with any door or the liftgate open.
