Black plate (18,1) q Seat Slide T o move the seat forward or backward, raise the lever and slide the seat to the desired po sition and release the lever. Make sure the lever returns to its original position and the seat is locked in place by attempting to push it forward and backward.

Black plate (27,1) q Normal Head Restraints Height ad justment T o raise a head restraint, pull it up to the desired po sition. T o lower the head restraint, press the stop- catch release, then push the head restraint down. Adjust the head restraint so that the center is even with the top of the passen ger's ears.
Black plate (28,1) T o fold the head restraint, pull the stra p and fold the head rest raint downward. T o return the head restraint to its upright position, lift it upward.
Black plate (29,1) WARNING Ø Be careful when using the seat warmer. The heat from the seat warmer may be too ho t for some people, as indicated below, and could cause a low-temperatur e burn.
Black plate (30,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to d ecrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. Y our vehicle has the follow ing types of seat belts.
Black plate (31,1) WARNING Always wea r your seat belt and make sure all occupants are pro perly restrai ned: Not wearing a seat belt is extremely dangerous. During a collis ion, occupa nts not wearing seat belts could hit someone or things inside the veh icle or even be thrown out of the vehicle.
Black plate (32,1) CAUTION Belt retract ion may become difficult if the belt s and rings are soiled, so try to keep them clean . For more details abou t cleaning the seat belts, refer to “ Cleani ng the Lap/Shoulder Belt Webbing ” (page 8-64) .
Black plate (33,1) q Automatic Locking Mode Always use the automatic locking mode to keep the child-res traint system from shifting to an unsafe position in the event of an acciden t. T o enable seat belt automatic locking mode, pull it all the way out and connect it as instruct ed on the chil d-restraint system.
Black plate (34,1) Seat Belt q Fastening the Seat Belt 1. Grasp the seat belt tongue. 2. Slowly pull o ut the lap/shoulder belt. Tongue Belt 3. Insert the seat belt tongue into the seat belt buck le until you hear a click sound.
Black plate (35,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the seat belt buckle. If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twists. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retracts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully retract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (36,1) Front Seat Belt Pretensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passen ger seat belts are equipp ed with prete nsioner and load limiting systems. For both these systems to work properly y ou must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (37,1) Do not modify the compo nents or wiring, or use electronic testing devic es on the pretensioner system: Modifying the componen ts or wiring of the pretensioner system, including the use of electronic testing devices is dangerous.
Black plate (38,1) A system malfunct ion is indicated if the warning ligh t constantly flashes, constantly illuminates or does not illuminate at all when the igni tion is switched ON. If any of these occur, consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.
Black plate (39,1) Seat Belt Extender If your seat belt is not long enough , even when fully extended, a seat belt extender may be available to you at no charge from your Authori zed Mazda Dealer . This extend er will be only for you and for the particula r vehicle and seat.
Black plate (40,1) Do not leave a seat belt extender connected to the buckle: Leaving a seat belt extender connected to the buckle without using the seat belt is danger ous.
Black plate (41,1) Seat Belt Reminder NOTE Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer to deactivate or restor e the belt r eminder . Though the belt reminder can be deactivated, doing so will defeat the purpose of the system to warn the driver and the fr ont passenger in the event that their seat belts are not fastened.
Black plate (42,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of chil d-restraint systems for children small enough to use them. Y ou are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (43,1) WARNING Use the correct size child -restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accidents and sudden stop s, a child must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-restraint system dep ending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident .
Black plate (44,1) Vehicles with a front passenger air bag have a warnin g label attached as shown below. The warning label reminds you not to put a rear-facing child-restraint system on the front passenger seat at any time.

A seat belt used in this way canno t spread the impact forces properly and the two passengers could be crushed together and seriously injured or even killed.
Black plate (47,1) Child-Restraint System Installation Position In this owner's manual, explanation of child-restraint systems is provided for the following three types of popular chil d- restraint systems: infan t seat, child seat, booster seat.
Black plate (48,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statistics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seats. The front passenger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child under 12, and with rear- facing child-restraint systems it is clearly unsafe due to air bags.

With the key in the igni tion switch, all doors and the liftgate will automatically unlock if they are locked using the power door locks with any door or the liftgate open.

Black plate (100,1) q Closing the Hood 1. Check under the hood area to make certain all filler caps are in place and all loose items (e.g. tools, oil containers, etc.) have been removed. 2. Lift the hood, grasp the padded area on the stay , and secure the stay in the clip.

After washing your Mazda or after it rains, wipe the water off the moonroof before operating it to avoid water penetration which could cause rust and water damage to your headliner .
Black plate (102,1) q Sunshade The sunshade can be opened and closed by hand. The sunshade opens automatically when the moonroof is opened, but must be closed by hand. Sunshade CAUTION Ø The sunsh ade does not tilt. To avoid damag ing the sunshad e, do not push up on it.
Black plate (103,1) Immobilizer System The immo bilizer syst em allows the engine to start only with a key the system recognizes. If someone attempts to start the engine with an unrecognized key , the engine will not start, thereby helping to prevent the theft of your vehicle.
Black plate (104,1) NOTE l The keys carry a unique electr onic code. For this reason, and to assure your safety , obtaining a replacement key requir es some waiting time. They are only available thr ough an Authorized Mazda Dealer . l Always keep a spare key , in case one is lost.

The securi ty indicator light in the instrument cluster flashes every two seconds until the system is disar med. Disarming The system is disarmed when the ignition is swi tched ON with the correct ignition key .

Mirror switch Selector switch After adjus ting the mirror, lock the control by placin g the selector switch in the center position.
