Black plate (45,1) Do not leave a seat belt extender connected to the buckle: Leaving a seat belt extender connected to the buckle without using the seat belt is danger ous.
Black plate (46,1) Seat Belt Reminder NOTE Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer to deactivate or r estore the belt r eminder . Though the belt r eminder can be deactivated, doing so will defeat the purpose of the system to warn the driver and the fr ont passenger in the event that their seat belts ar e not fastened.
Black plate (47,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of child-restraint systems for children small enough to use them. Y ou are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (48,1) WARNING Use the correct size child-restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accidents and sudden stops, a child must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-r estraint system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident .
Black plate (49,1) Vehicles with a front passenger air bag have a warning label attached as shown below. The warning label reminds you not to put a rear-facing child-restraint system on the front passenger seat at any time.
Black plate (50,1) Seating a child in a child-restraint system on the front passenger seat is dangerous under certain conditions (With Driver and Front Passenger Occupant Classification System): Your vehicle is equipped with front passenger seat weight sensors.
Black plate (51,1) Never use one seat belt on more than one person at a time: Using one seat belt for mor e than one person at a time is dangerous. A seat belt used in this way cannot spread the impact forces properly and the two passengers could be crushed together and seriously injured or even killed.
Black plate (52,1) Child-Restraint System Installation Position In this owner's manual, explanation of child-restraint systems is provided for the following three types of popular child- restraint systems: infant seat, child seat, booster seat. NOTE l Installation position is determined by the type of child-r estraint system.
Black plate (53,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statistics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seats. The front passenger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child under 12, and with rear- facing child-restraint systems it is clearly unsafe due to air bags.
Black plate (54,1) 2. If the seat in which you install a child- restraint system has a seat slide function, slide the seat as far back as possible. 3. Make sure the seatback is securely latched by pushing it bac k until it is fully locked. 4. Raise the head restraint to the top locked position.
Black plate (55,1) Anchor bracket location T ether strap position T ether strap Forward WARNING Use the tether and tether ancho r only for a child-restraint system: Using the tether or tether anchor to secure anything but a child-restraint system is dangerous.
Black plate (56,1) q Third-Row Seats Child-Restraint System Installation The third-row seats cannot accommodate LA TCH-typ e child-restraint systems or tethers, therefore these systems must be installed on the other seat po sitions such as the second-row seat.
Black plate (57,1) NOTE Inspect this function before each use of the child-r estraint system. Y ou should not be able to pull the shoulder belt out of the retractor while the system is in the automatic locking mode.
Black plate (58,1) Never use a rear-facing child-restraint system in the front seat with an air bag that could deploy: Rear-facing child-restraint systems on the front seat are particu larly dangerous.
Black plate (59,1) 3. Place the child-restraint system on the seat without putting your weight on the seat and fasten the seat belt . See the manufacturer's instructions on the child-restraint system for belt routing instructions.
Black plate (60,1) WARNING Do not seat a child in a child-restraint system on the front passenger seat if the front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light does not illuminate (With Driver and .
Black plate (61,1) LA TCH Child-Restraint Systems Y our Mazda is equipped with LA TCH lower anchors for attachment of speci ally designed LA TCH child-restraint systems in the second-row seats. Both anchors must be used, otherwise the seat will bounce around and put the child in danger .
Black plate (62,1) q LA TCH Child-Restraint System Installation Procedure (Second- Row Outboard Seats) 1. Slide the second-row seat as far back as possible. 2. Make sure the seatback is securely latched by pushing it bac k until it is fully locked. 3.
Black plate (63,1) WARNING Use the tether and tether ancho r only for a child-restraint system: Using the tether or tether anchor to secure anything but a child-restraint system is dangerous. This could weaken or damage the tether or tether anchor and result in injury.
Black plate (64,1) WARNING Use the tether and tether ancho r only for a child-restraint system: Using the tether or tether anchor to secure anything but a child-restraint system is dangerous. This could weaken or damage the tether or tether anchor and result in injury.

Black plate (69,1) Do not attach objects on or around the area where a si de air bag deploys: Attaching objects to the front seat in such a way as to cover the outboard side of the seat in any way is danger ous.
Black plate (70,1) Do not modify the suspe nsion: Modifying the vehicle suspension is dangerous. If the vehicle's heigh t or the suspension is modified, the vehicle will be unable to accurately detect a collision or roll-over accident resulting in incorrect or unexpected air bag deploym ent and the possibility of serious injuries.
Black plate (71,1) NOTE l When an air bag deploys, a loud inflation noise can be heard and some smoke will be r eleased. Neither is likely to cause injury , however , the textur e of the air bags may cause light skin injuries on body parts not cover ed with clothing through friction.
