3 IDEN TIFICA T ION OF SYMB OLS Mov e ON /STOP s wit ch to the ON pos ition. Slowly pres s primer bulb 6t i m e s . Pull the s tarter rope shar ply 5 times w ith y our right hand. Pull the s tarter rope s harply with y our right hand un til the engine s tarts .
4 S Do not put pres sure on the saw at the end of the cut . Applyin g press ure c an caus e y ou to lose c ontrol w hen the cu t is c ompleted. S Stop the engine befor e sett ing the saw down. S Do not operate a c hain s aw that is dam- aged, impr op er ly adjusted, or no t c om- pletely and s ecurely as sembled.
5 S Turn the engine of f and let s aw cool in a non-combus tible area, not on dry leav es, str aw , paper , etc . Slowly r em ov e fuel c ap and refuel unit. S Store the unit and fuel in an area where fuel vapor s cannot reach s parks or open flames from wat er heaters, elec tric motors or sw itches, f urnaces, et c.
6 S K ee p a good, firm grip on the s aw with bot h hands w hen the engine is r unning and don’t let go. A fir m grip wi ll help y ou reduc e kic k- back and maint ain contr ol of the s aw . Keep the fingers of y our left hand enc ircling and your left thumb under t he front handlebar.
7 A TTA CHIN G TH E BAR & CH AIN (If not already attac hed) WAR NI N G : Rechec k each ass em- bly step if the s aw is receiv ed as sembled. Al- way s w ear gloves when handling the chain. The chain is sharp and c an c ut you even when it is not mov ing! 1.
8 Adjus ting Screw Chain Br ake Nuts Guide Bar Adjus ting Screw - - 1/ 4 T urn S Lift up the tip of the bar and s ecurely tight- en the chain brake nuts wi th the bar tool. S Rec heck c hain tension. Chain Br ake Nuts WAR NI N G : If the s aw is oper ated with a loos e chain, the c hain could jump off the guide bar and r esult in s erious injury.
9 START ING A CO LD ENGI NE (or a warm engine a fter running out of fuel) NOTE : In the follow ing steps , when the c ho- ke/f ast idle lev e r is pulled out to the f ull ex- tent, the cor rect thrott le sett ing for s tarting is set automatic ally . ON/S TOP SWITCH ON STOP (SIDE VIEW ) 1.
10 CUT TING MET HO DS IMPORTANT POINTS S Chec k c hain tensio n before firs t use and af - ter 1 minute of oper ation. See CHAI N TEN - SION in the ASSEMBL Y s ection. S Cut w ood only . D o not c ut metal, plas tics , masonry , non-wood bui lding materi als , e tc .
11 S Be alert to s igns th at the tree is ready to fall: cr acking s ounds, w idening of the felling cut, or mov ement in the upper br anches . S As tree s tarts to fall, s top saw, put it down, and get away quic kly on y our planned re- treat path. S DO N OT cu t down a partially fallen t ree with your sa w .
12 LIMBING AND PRU NING WAR NI N G : Be al ert for and guard agains t kic kback . Do not allow the mov ing chain t o contac t any other b ranched or o bjects at the nos e of the guide bar w hen limbing or pruning. Allowing s uch c ontact ca n result in serious inj ury.
13 BAR MAINTENANCE If your s aw cuts to one side, has to be forc ed through the c ut, or been run w ith an improper amount of bar lubric ation it may be neces- sar y to serv ice your bar . A worn bar w ill d amage y our chain and make cutt ing dif fic ult.
14 CAUTION : It is important to prevent gum deposits from forming in essential fuel sy stem parts such as the carbur etor , fuel fil- ter , f uel hose, or fuel tank during s torage.
