5 UNIT / MAINTENANCE SAFETY WAR N I N G : D is connec t the spark plug before perfor ming maintenance except car buretor adjustments . S Look for and replac e damaged or loose parts before each us e. Look for and r epair fuel leak s before us e. Keep in good wor king condition.

R emove objec ts (roc ks , brok en glas s, nails , w ire, etc .) which can be thr own by the blade or can wrap around the s haft. WAR N I N G : B lade rotates momen- tarily after the trigger is released or engine is turned off.
7 S Throw away and replace blades that are bent, warped, c rac ked, br oken or damaged in any other way. S Install r equired s hield properly before using the unit. 12 WAR N I N G : Alw ay s s top unit and dis- connec t s park plug before removing or instal- ling attachments . REMOVING TRIMMER A TT ACH- MENT (OR OTHER OPTIONAL A T- TA C H M E N T S ) CAUTION: When removing or installing at- tachment s, place the unit on a flat s urfac e for stability.
13 Alway s tap the trimmer head on a gras s y area. T apping on s urfac es s uch as c onc rete or as phalt c an c ause ex ces s ive w ear to the trimmer head. If the line is worn down to 2 inches (5 cm) or less , more than one tap will be required to ob- tain the most ef ficient line length.
14 MAINTE NANCE WAR N I N G : D is connec t the spark plug before perfor ming maintenance except for car buretor adjustments . HE LPFUL T IP IMPO RT AN T : Hav e all repairs other than the rec - ommended maintenance desc ribed in the instruc tion manual performed by an authoriz ed serv ice dealer.
15 SERVIC E AND ADJUSTMENTS REPLACING THE LINE 1. Pres s the t abs on t he side of the trimmer head and remove c over and spool. Ta b Ta b Cove r Spool 2. Remove any remaining line. 3. Clean dirt and debr is from all par ts. Re- place s pool if it is w orn or damaged.
16 10. Ins ert the ends of the lines through ex it holes in t he sides of the cov er. Line exit hole Cover 1 1. Reins tall t he spool and c over onto the trimmer head. P ush until c over s naps into place. REPLACING THE TRIMMER HEAD 1. Hold the dus t c up with a w renc h to keep the shaft from tur ning while remov ing and installing tr immer head.

18 TROUBLE CAUSE REMEDY Engine will not sta rt. 1. Engine flooded. 2. Fuel tank empty . 3. Spark plug not firing. 4. Fuel not reac hing carbur etor . 5. Carbur etor requires adjustment. 1. See “Starting a Flooded Engine” in Operation Sec tion. 2. Fill tank w ith c orrec t fuel mixt ure.
