1 Dear Customer, P lea se read this manual thoroughly before ope rat ing the unit to become more familiar with it and obtain the performance that will bring you continued enjoyment for many years.
Dear Customer: Selecting fine audio equipment such as the unit you’ve just purchased is only the start of your musical enjoyment. Now it’s time to consider how you can maximize the fun and excitement your equipment offers.
3 Before using the unit, be sure to read all operating instructions c arefully. Please note that these are general precautions and may not p ertain to your unit. For example, this unit may not have the capability to be connected to an outdoor antenna.
4 PREP ARA TION FOR USE SPEAKER CONNECTION 1. Place the speakers in convenient locations on either side of the unit. Usually a distance of five to eight feet between speakers provides the best stereo effect, but this may vary depending on the size and acoustics of the room.

8 OPERA TING INSTRUCTIONS SETTING THE CLOCK While the unit is at the standby mode (the clock appears in the display and the backlight is dimly lit), press and hold the PROGRAM/MEMORY/CLOCK SET button; "24" or "12" will blink in the display.
9 OPERA TING INSTRUCTIONS (CONTINUED) Press the POWER button to turn the unit on; the display will light brightly. 1 1 MANUAL TUNING: Repeatedly press the SKIP/TUNING o 1 or n 2 button to manually advance the frequency in the display up or down until the desired frequency appears.
10 OPERA TING INSTRUCTIONS (CONTINUED) Press the POWER button to turn the unit on; the display will light brightly. 1 1 Press the PROGRAM/MEMORY/ CLOCK SET button 1 ; the preset number will appear and MEM will blink in the display. Press the MEM-UP button 2 (or MEM- DOWN on the remote) until the desired memory number appears on the display.
11 Press the POWER button to turn the unit on; the display will light brightly. 1 1 Press the STOP button to stop the playback, then press the Open/Close button and insert a CD onto the top spindle. NOTE: If a CD is already playing, that CD spindle will not eject, it will remain in the unit.
12 During playback, depress and hold either the SKIP/TUNING n or o button to move the player forward or backward within a track to locate a specific musical passage. The player will move forward or backward at high speed as long as the button is depressed.
13 To repeat a single track, select a Disc by pressing one of the Disc (1 through 5) buttons ❶ ; playback will start automatically. Press the CD MODE button 2 once; “RPT” will blink in the display. Press the SKIP/TUNING n 3 or o 4 button to select the specific track that you wish to repeat.
14 With the unit on, press the FUNCTION button repeatedly until CD is selected; one of the Disc indicator will blink and the other disc indicators will light.
15 Press the SKIP/TUNING o 1 or n 2 button to select the first track that you wish to program. When the desired track number appears in the display, press the PROGRAM/ MEMORY/CLOCK SET button 3 again. 2 1 3 4 Press either the SKI P/T UNI NG o 1 or n 2 button to select the next track you wish to program.
Caring for Compact Discs • Treat the compact disc carefully. Handle the compact disc only by its edges. Never allow your fingers to come in contact with the shiny, unprinted side of the compact disc. • Do not attach adhesive tape, stickers, etc. to the compact disc label.
