1 I NTRODUCTION P RODUCT O VERVIEW The SP5600 Optimus R Portable Data Terminals are robu st and versatile scanning devices designed to provide exceptional performance, while endu ring the demands of everyday use. The rugged exterior of the Optimus R makes the Optimus the ideal PDT for application s that take place in more rigorous e nvironments.

5 G ENERAL F EATURES AND C HARACTE RISTICS T HE LCD S CREEN The LCD screen of the Optimus R Porta ble Data T erminal displays program settings, operati onal para meters, dat a collected, and much more.
6 G ENERAL F EATURES AND C HARACTE RISTICS L ABELS The scanner and cradle ha ve labels that provide impor tant information incl uding the model number, date of manufacture, serial number, safety and regulatory information. Figure 5 provides ex amples of these labels a nd their locations.
7 I NSTALLATION G ETTING S TARTED The Optimus R Portable Data Terminal ( PDT ) require s minimal effort to begin functional operation for data collection in any application. In order to get started, th e unit must have a fresh battery inserted i nto the battery compartment.
8 I NSTALLATION B ASIC O PERATION In order for the Optimus to operate properly, an appli cation program must be loaded onto the PDT . It is possible for the Optimus to power up without at active applicati on. On powe r up if the Optimus has no application progra m loaded, then the following Program Manager m enu options will appear on the di splay.
9 I NSTALLATION C OMMUNICATION AND D ATA C OLLECTION S ETUP The Optimus R Series has variou s ways of communicating wi th a host device. Depending on t he model of Optimus, it can communicate via RS232, USB, or Wi-Fi conn ection. The Optimus R can store data in the unit or send data real time via a Wi-Fi conne ction.
10 I NSTALLATION D ATA U PLO AD 1. To transfer the data collect ed select the Utilities option. 2. Select the Download Method option on the next menu and then sel ect the appropriate method for downloading files to the host device.
11 I NSTALLATION T HE S YSTEM M ENU The system menu on the Optimus is an other useful tool included with the Optimus. The system men u provides information about the Optimus and access to the system menu for configuring t he Optimus. In order to access the system module, follow the instructions below: 1.
12 I NSTALLATION S ETTINGS S ETTING D ESCRIPTION D EFAULT Clock Set date and time for the system. N/A Backlight ON Period Set the durat ion for the keyboard/LCD backlight the light goes off after 20 seconds CPU Speed Set CPU running speed. There are five speeds available: Full speed, half speed, quarter speed, eighth speed and sixteenth speed.
13 I NSTALLATION M EMORY The menu option provides the user with the ability to gather information on the amount of memory available on the Optimus, as well as the ability to initialize the memo ry. This is accomplished by choosing one of the two available selections: 1.
14 I NSTALLATION W I -F I M ENU The Wi-Fi Menu will configure the Optimus R with the appro priate network and se curity settings for Wi-Fi communication. 1. Information 2. Network Set 3. WLAN Setting 4. Security 5. Echo Test Information The information setting lists the curr ent network settings of the OptimusR.
15 I NSTALLATION A PPLICATION The Application module runs on top of the System m odule. The O ptimus R Series Port able Data T erminals are preloaded with the Optimizer’s run-time program and the following menu will b e shown upon powering the unit up: 1.
16 T ROUBLESHOOTING S YMP TOM D ESCRIPTION Make sure the battery is inserte d and charged. Charge the battery and check the charg ing status. If no charging information is shown on the display, reload the battery and check if the battery is properly installed then try again.
