1 1. Introduction The PT series portable data collector (PDC ) is well suited for a variety of portable applications. It has a built-in CCD scann ing engine that can scan all popular bar code labels at vary ing distance (up to 13 inches). User’s applications can b e downloaded to the collecto r to adapt the collector to the user’s situation.

8 3.2 Handling Precautions To avoid m alfunctionin g and to e nsure year s of trouble free operatio n, pay att ention to the following: General Use Do not use or leave the product in extr emely hot area – like direct sunligh t, near a heater, or in a car – or i n areas that are very cold, humid, moist, or dusty.
9 Use of the collector Avoid temperature change s. Sudden temperature cha nges can caus e condensation to form on the co ll ector. Using the collector whil e condensation is present can cau se malfunction. Always wait until the condensation clears naturally befo re attempting operation.
10 3.3 Assembly Follow the next steps to make your collector ready for installation in a syste m that is described furth er in the manual. 3.3.1 Collector To avoid drop use the hand strap. 1. Fix the small cord of the strap around the pillar of the collector.
11 3.3.2 Cradle Power Connection 1. Attach the DC jac k of the AC adapter into the socket of the cradle. Then connect the AC adapter to the mains outlet.
12 3.4 Installing, Replacing a nd Charging Batteries Wrong use of batteries might cause serious dam age to the collector or to the cradle. I n order to avoid damage, it is very importan t to take notice of the instructions . Insert full batteries (or a full-char ged battery pack) before use of the collector.
13 Main Battery The main battery can consist of: 1. Argox rechargeable batter y pack (Ni-MH) (Ref. 1) To be recharged when placing t he collect or in the cradle or just put the battery pack in the charging slot of the cradle (alone). This battery is supplied with the PT-12 collecto r and is recommended by Argox.
14 How to charge Argox rechargeabl e battery pack in the cradle 1. Make sure that the Argox recharge able battery pack is inserted in the collector. If the collector with the batte ry pack is placed in the cradle, the LED on the cradle will turn Orange first and turn to Green at once.
15 3. Change a full Argox battery pack for PT-1 2 directly, and push it back to the collector with correct direction (R ef. 2). 4. Change the alkaline or rech argeable batteries in the p ack case, and push the pack case back to the collector with correct direction (Ref.
16 3.5 Installing in a System Exercise caution at all tim es when working wit h AC-powe red equi pment. Turn o ff your devi ces before i nstallation. Because of the special pin-out of th e connectors, use the cables s upplied by the manufacturer. Do not modify the cable provided by th e manufacturer.
17 3.5.2 Via CRD-10 C radle The CRD-10 c radle provides two met hods for data tran smission: through an RS-2 32 cable (9-pin con nector for PC and 9-pin con nector for c ollector) and t hrough a USB cable.
18 4. Operation of the Collector 4.1 Software Description The functionality of the co llector is determined by software, e.g. user applicatio n that is running on the collector . Usually, the collector is not equ ipped with software. There are only some sim ple functions can be tested (like scanning test, com port test).
19 4.2 Hardware Description 4.2.1 Display Descri ption The pixel number of the LCD display is 128 do ts (W) * 64 dots (H). The primitive point starts from the left up corner of the display. It was divided into two areas: View and Status Bar. St atus Bar can be set as en abled or disabl ed.

22 4.2.6 Splashed Logo Description If there is no user-defined logo, the default logo in the system will be displayed. User can do wnload Lo go image fi le, which c urrently should be made by manufacturer – Argox, as a user-defined l ogo to coll ector by usin g ArgoBuilder.
23 4.3.2 Power on by using hot k ey When the collector is off, user can press PW key a nd other speci al keys toget her to start Hot-key powering on the co llector an d get into special modes. 24 4.4 Main Menu Structure The main menu will be available only und er Standard Mode. Please see the structure and function as below: Item Function Remark User can execute the designe d program (creat e by ArgoBuil der or SDK) and proceed to collect and store data.
25 4.4.1 Applications Function User can execute a designed program and pr oceed to collect and store data based on the demands i n the program. Thi s program needs to be generat ed by Arg oBuilder and downloaded with relative files into co llector by ArgoLink.
26 For example, if you want t o get an “H”, just continuously press key TWICE under Alpha Mode and you will get “H” after abo ut 0.5 second. During data i nput, the cursor can be moved up, down, left and rig ht as you desired according to the field length limit.
27 4.4.3 System Tools 4.4.3.1 Scan Test User can m ake a scannin g test by thi s function . When a ba r code was read successfully, the collector will send a Read C onfirm according to the settings (at SettingBIOS settingRead Confirm). It can be LED, Beep, Both or None.

30 4.4.4.2 Boot Configure Mode Setting: This is used to set up the m ode to standard Mode or Prog ram Mode when power on. Program Mode : When the collector is unde r Standard Mode, if you want to set Program M ode, you shoul d have at least one user pro gram store d in collector for use r’s selection.
31 5. Scanning Please take care of the handling precautions. Please make sure that the collector is installed according to the installation instructions. Never remove the main batteries (or ba ttery pack) while the c ollector is turned o n. Doing so can cause data in th e collector to be deleted.
32 Point the LED lightbeam to barcode as shown in the scan position illustration . The barcode will be read and the reading results will b e indicated. A “Good Read” means that the scanner has effectivel y recognized and decoded the bar code.

35 7. Trouble Shooting This chapt er contain s informat ion on sol ving pr oblem s you may encounter when usin g the collector a nd/or cradl e. If problem s occur, first carry out some general checks before verifying the prob lem with the descriptions in this chapter.
36 Data is corrupted, or no data is transmitted Is the proper baud rate selected? The computer needs the same baud rate as the collector. Make sure the interface c onnectors of cra dle and/or collector are well connected and clean the connectors if necessary, a nd try again.
37 7.4 Collector Problems Collector does not respond to ke y press while the display stays on Message “No Progr ams…” is show n when you try to start a program There is no user’s application program for PT-10 / PT-12 loaded in the collector.
