- 8 - Installing Batteries Your GXT255 radio operates with either 4 AAA Alkaline Batteries or optional NiMH Battery Pack. The belt clip should be rem oved (Page 16) to ease installat ion or removal. To install the batteries: 1. With the back of the radio facing you, re move the Battery Cover by sliding it down from the unit.
- 9 - Charging the batteries Your GXT255 i s equipp ed to allow using a re chargeable N iMH battery pack (not inc luded) whic h can be recharged by an A/C Char ger/Adapto r (not includ ed) through t he MIC Jack of the radio, or u sing a Desktop Char ger (not inclu ded).
- 1 0 - Operation Power On/Off : Press the button for more than 1 second to turn the radio on. Press the button for over 3 seconds to turn the radio off. Volume : Press the button to increase the volume, and press the button to decrease the volume during n ormal operation.
- 1 1 - Call Tone : Your GXT255 can transmit a call tone for a fixed length of time. To send a call tone, press the PTT twice rapidly. T he T X icon will appear during transmitting a call tone and tone can be heard on the s peaker for confirmation. Scan : Your GXT255 can scan all of the 2 2 chan nel to o bserve for any activity.
- 1 2 - User Interface To access the advanced features of your GX T255, your radio has the foll owing menu functions: Note : The unit will auto matically go to norm al mode after 5 seconds o f no button activity during menu se ttin g. Channel Selection : Your GXT255 has 22 channels availabl e.
- 1 3 - Privacy Code Selection : Your GXT255 has 38 privacy codes available. The selected privacy code may be different for ea ch channel. To select a privacy co de for the current channel: • With the desired channel selected, repeat edl y press until the current privacy code number f lashes.
- 1 4 - Power Selection : Your GXT255 has two transmit power levels. To select the power level on channels 1~7 an d 15 ~22: • Press repeatedly until the “Pr” appears on the display. • Press or to select between high and low power levels. The HI/Lo icon will alternately appear during s etting.
- 1 5 - Roger Beep Tone : Whenever you release the P TT button, a “Roger Beep” tone may be transmitted to let your friends know you are finished talking. T o enable the Roger Beep, press the button repeatedly until the “rb” appears on the display.
- 1 6 - Installing the Belt Clip To install the belt clip: • Slide the clip up into the slot on t he back of the radio until the latch in g mechanism clicks. To remove the belt clip: • Pull the latching tab out ward, then gently slide the belt clip do wn toward the bottom of the radio.
- 1 7 - PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS No Power - Check battery installation and/or replace batteries. Cannot Receive Messages - Confirm the radios have the same channel settings. - Make sure that you are with in range of the other t ransceivers. - Buildings and other obstructions may in terfere with your communication.
