GB - 6 1.2 Dis charge H azard Discharge Hazard – NEVER direc t discharge toward people, pets or property . T hrown objects can cause injury or damage. Keep children and others away from unit while unit is in operation. Do not operate mower unless guards are in operating position or entire bagger is attached.
GB - 7 EMISSION CONTROL SYST EM This equipment and/or its engine may include exhaust and evaporat ive emissions control system components required to meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agenc y (EP A) and/or California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations.
GB - 8 NEVER allow children to use or service mower . AL WA YS keep hands and feet away from rotating part s. Rotating parts can cut off body part s. AL WA YS keep hands away from pinch points. Fumes from engine exhaust can cause death or serious injury .
GB - 9 • NO Smoking! • NO S parks! • NO Flames! • Allow engine to cool befo re filling fuel tank. Properly remove fuel before tipping unit . Never fill containers inside a vehicle or on a truck or trailer bed with a plastic liner . Always place containers on the gr ound away from your vehicle before filling.
GB - 10 CARTON CONTENTS ASSEMB L Y 1. Remove all packing materials and straps from unit. 2. Remove lower pair of nut s and bolts from the handlebars. 3. Rotate t he handlebar into the operating position. 4. Replace the nut s removed in step 2 and then tighten.
GB - 11 6. Check engine crankcase oil level. S ee engine manual. 7. Connect the battery ground cable (–) to the negative battery terminal. 8. Fill fuel t ank.

GB - 13 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES See Figure 6 for locations. Park ing Br ake L ever ( Rig ht Han d Lever) Hold the parking brake l ever against the handlebar to release the wheel lock pin and operate the unit. Release the parking brake lever to engage wheel lock pin and pr event the unit from rolling forward or backward.
GB - 14 Align the open ends of the spacers with the flats on the caster s pindle and remove t he spacers one at a time until enough are left at the bottom for the desired cutting height. Remove the lock pin while supporting the caster arm. Lower the arm on top of the remaining spacers.
GB - 15 Forward Drive Control (Lower Right Hand Control) NOTE: Engine must be running for wheel drive to propel unit. T o drive forward: Hold the parking brake l ever against the handlebar and slowly sq ueeze and hold the forward drive contro l. Hold the forward drive control against the handlebar for f astest speed.
GB - 16 GASOLINE IMPORT ANT : AL WA YS use gasoline that meets the following guidel ines: • Clean, fresh gasoline. • A minimum o f 87 octane/87 AKI (91 RON).
GB - 17 Ariens Dealers will provide any service, parts or adjustments which may be required to keep your unit operating at peak ef ficiency . Should engine require se rvice, contact an Ariens Dealer or an authorized engine manufacturer's service center.
GB - 18 T o install blade: 1. Install mower b lades on mower dec k with mounting hardwa re. 2. T orque 5/8-inch nut to 92 to 130 lbf-ft (125 to 176 N•m ). 3. C onnect spark plug wire. Sharpen the Mower Blades 1. R emove mower blade from unit. Discard mower blade if: • More than 1/2 in.
GB - 19 CHECK DRIVE BEL T S Check drive belts and replace if worn or damaged. See Wheel Drive Belts on page 21. CHECK F A STENERS Check all fasteners for proper tightnes s. Pay special attention to blade hardware and all guards, shields and safety devices.
GB - 20 PTO CLUTCH 1. T est the PTO clutch adjustme nt. With the clutch disengaged, the blade brake pad should touch the upper pulley . With the clutch engaged, the blade brake pad should not touch the upper pulley and the deck belt should be under tension.
GB - 21 BELT REPLACEM ENT Wheel Drive Belt s 1. St op engine, remove key , wait for all moving parts to stop and hot p arts to cool. 2. Raise and support the rear of the unit. 3. R emove the rear cover and disc onnect the neutral return springs from the spring anchors.
GB - 22 PTO Belt 1. St op engine, remove key , wait for all moving parts to stop and hot p arts to cool. 2. R emove the two dr ive belts from engine pulley . See Wheel Drive Belts on page 21. 3. R emove the belt cov er from the d eck. 4. D isconnect the t wo idler springs from the spring anchors.
GB - 23 SERVICING TH E BA TTERY NOTE: Unit comes equipped with a maintenance-free battery that requires no regular maintenance except cleaning the terminals. NOTE: Unit may be equipped with a U1 style battery and cover or a sealed glass mat battery with boot terminal.
GB - 24 Sealed G lass Mat Ba ttery Remov al and Inst allation (Figure 19) NOTE: If same size replacement battery is not available a U1-s ize battery can be installed (see Figure 21). Remove 1. Disconnect negative (–) cable first, then positive (+) cable.
GB - 25 Cleaning Battery a nd Battery Cables (Figure 18 or Figure 19) 1. R emove the battery c over (if equipped). 2. Disconnect negative (–) cable first, then positive (+) cable. 3. Clean battery cable ends, negative (–) t erminal, and posit ive (+) t erminal with a wire brush and rinse with a weak baking soda solution.
GB - 26 IMPORT ANT : NEVER spray unit with high- pressure water or store unit outdoors. S tor e mower in a coo l, dry , protected loc ation. Cleaning NOTE: Allow unit to c ool before cleaning. Clean unit thoroughly with mild soap and low pressure water .
GB - 27 Cut is poor 1. Deck is clogged with grass. 2. Blades are dull. 3. Cutting wet grass. 4. Cutting too low . 5. PTO belt is slipping. 1. Clean the deck cutting chamber . 2. Sharpen o r replace blades. 3. Wait for grass to dry . 4. Raise cutting height and cut grass in two or more passes.
