Operating instructions f or W ashing machine W 149 It is essential to read these operating instructions before installing or using the machine, to avoid the risk of accident, or damage to the machine.
Disposal of the packing material The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are envir onmentally friendly for disposal and can normally be recycled. Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags etc. are disposed safely and kept out of the reach of babies and young children.

Read the operating instructions be - fore using this machine for the first time. They contain important infor - mation about the safety , use and maintenance of the machine.
This machine must only be con - nected to the on-site water supply using a new hose kit. Old hoses must not be re-used. Check the hose r egu - larly for signs of wear and tear . Change in good time to avoid the risk of leaks and subsequent damage. Faulty components must only be replaced by genuine Miele original spare parts.
If the correct amount of detergent is dispensed, the machine should not need to be descaled. If, however , you do wish to descale the machine only use proprietary non-corrosive descaling agents and strictly observe the manufacturer’s instructions given on the packaging.
– W ater consumption and energy us - age are determined by the size of the load. Load to the maximum recom - mended for the programme selected. – Programme durations can vary con - siderably due to the automatic load adjustment feature. Depending on the amount of laundry , the main wash may be shortened and one rinse omitted.
Before using the machine for the first time ensure that it is corr ectly in - stalled and connected. See the rele - vant section under "Installation". Also check that the fluff filter is se - curely tightened. Otherwise ther e is a risk of water leakage during use.
Brief guide The headings numbered ( A , B , C ,...) show the operating sequence and can be used as a brief guide. Before washing A Sort the laundr y . ^ Empty all pockets. Foreign objects (e.g. nails, coins, paper clips, etc.) can cause dam - age to textiles and components in the machine.
B T o s witch on the machine Press the "I-ON/0-OFF" button. C Press the "Lid" button. ^ Open the machine outer lid. ^ Open the inner lid. D Open the drum: T ake care. The drum flaps ar e spring-loaded. ^ Gently press your hand against the rear drum flap.
E Close the drum: ^ First press the fr ont, then the rear drum flap down until both hooks clearly engage. Failure to observe these instructions may cause damage to the machine and to laundry . ^ Clean the roller on the left-hand hook of the drum flap regularly to ensur e smooth operation is maintained.
G Pull out the detergent dispenser drawer . H Add deter gent. Dispense according to the amount specified on the packaging. – See section on "Adding detergents" for details. The detergent dispenser drawer must then be pushed back in, other - wise the machine outer lid cannot be closed.
L Select any ad ditional option re - quired. A maximum of two additional options can be chosen per wash programme, provided they ar e compatible with the programme selected, (see "Pr ogramme selection" chart). Only one option can be selected out of "Soak", "Pre-wash" and "Short".
After washing At the end of a programme When the "Finish" indicator light comes on the laundry can be removed from the drum: O Press the "Lid" button. ^ Open the machine outer lid. P Open the inner lid. Q Open the drum and remove the laundry .
Adding or remo ving laundry after programme start Laundry can be added or removed af - ter any programme has alr eady started. ^ Press the "Lid" button once. The drum automatically rotates to the correct position for opening. The "Rinse hold" and "Without final spin" indicator lights flash alternately .
Programme . . . . . . interruption ^ Press the "I-ON/0-OFF" button. ^ T o continue with the same programme pr ess the "I-ON/0-OFF" button again.
All modern detergents produced for automatic washing machines are suit - able, including liquid, compact (con - centrated), tablets, liquid tablets and special application detergents. Use dis - pensing aids, e.g. balls, if these are supplied with the detergent.
Adding deter gent i = Compartment for pre-wash. This compartment is also used for starch formulations when starching separately . j = Compartment main wash p = Compartment fabric conditioner W ater is taken in through compartment i in the pre-wash. W ater is taken in through compartment j in the main wash.
A utomatic dispensing of fabric conditioners, texturiser s or starch to laundry at the end of a programme ^ Add the fabric conditioner , texturiser or liquid starch to compartment p . Do not exceed the maxim um level mark. ^ Push the dispenser drawer back in.

T o select an additional option to the ba - sic programme pr ess the button for that option. The indicator light for the option comes on. If an additional option is chosen which is incompatible with the basic programme, (see Pr ogramme selection chart), the indicator light goes out when the button is released.
W ater plus The water level increases in the "COTTONS", "MINIMUM IRON", " QUICK W ASH" and "MIXED W ASH" programmes. Y ou can choose between four options for the "W ater plus" button. The options are explained in "W ater plus system" in the "Programmable functions" section.
Electronic pr ogramme locking Programme locking pr events the ma - chine from being opened or the programme being changed during a wash programme. Switching on pr ogramme locking A Select a programme, (see "How to wash correctly"). B Press the "ST ART" button for at least 5 seconds.
Maximum water le vel The water level for rinsing is automat - ically raised to the maximum level where rinse r esults are particularly important. It is effective for the rinses in the follow - ing pro.
W ater plus system The "W ater plus" button offers four options, increasing water level and / or bringing in an extra rinse cycle. T o activate the option press the "W ater plus" button when selecting your wash programme befor e pressing the ST ART button.
Selecting the Options By pressing the "ST ART" button a vari - ous number of times you can select the other options. T o confirm that a new se - lection has been selected the previous indicator light goes out and a new indi - cator light comes on.
Activating the i compartment This function should be activated if traditional "big box" detergents are used. For the first 10 seconds of the main wash cycle water flows in through compartment i . Compartment j may sometimes not be able to hold the total amount of de - tergent requir ed when: - the water is very hard (over 3.
Soak time This is accessed for a programme by pressing the SOAK button on the fa - cia. Y ou can programme a soak time of: - 2 hours (factory setting) or - 1 hour 30 mins or - 1 hour or - 30 mins. A "Soak time" of 2 hours is set at the factory .
Gentle action For gentle washing of slightly soiled items. Drum action is reduced. Gentle action can be used with the COTTONS, MINIMUM IRON, QUICK W ASH, Starch and MIXED W ASH programmes. If "Gentle action" has been pro - grammed, every wash cycle in these programmes is carried out with gentle action rhythm.
T op-up rinse for Cottons At the end of the main wash addi - tional water flows into the drum and the suds are cooled down. Hot suds can damage plastic drainage pipes.
Memory function If an additional option is selected for a programme, and / or the spin speed is altered, the machine stor es these changes in memory at the star t of a programme. The memory function is not active when the machine is first delivered but can be programmed to active.
Disconnect the appliance from the mains electricity supply and with - draw the plug from the socket prior to cleaning the machine. Do not use solvents, abrasive cleaners, glass cleaners or all-pur - pose cleaning agents. These might damage plastic sur - faces and other components be - cause of the chemicals they contain.
Cleaning the detergent dispenser drawer ^ Pull out the conditioner insert and the siphon tube and wash under running warm water . ^ Also clean the channel over which the siphon tube is inserted. ^ Remove the detergent dispenser drawer . ^ W ash under running warm water .
Cleaning the fluff (drain) filter and pump Check the drain filter initially after 3-4 washes to ascertain how often it is likely to requir e cleaning. With normal cleaning approx. 2 litres of water run out. If the drain outlet is clogged, more wa - ter will be retained in the machine (up to 25 litres) .
^ Once the flow of water ceases, re - move the fluff filter completely . ^ Clean the fluff filter thor oughly . ^ Remove any foreign objects (e.g. buttons, coins, etc.) and fluff. ^ T ur n the impeller by hand to make sure it r otates freely . Any foreign ob- jects causing an obstruction should be removed.
Cleaning the filter in the water inlet The washing machine has a filter to protect the water inlet valve. The accessible filter in the union in the open end of the inlet hose should be checked every six months, or more of - ten if there ar e frequent interruptions to the external water supply .
Repair work to electrical appliances should onl y be carried out by a suitab ly qualified person in accor dance with local and national safety regulations. Un - authorised repairs could be dangerous. What to do, if . . . Cause . . . Remedy . . . . . .

What to do, if . . . Cause . . . Remedy . . . . . . the indicator light "Drain/Final spin" flashes The final spin has not taken place. The machine detected an imbalance. – Loosen and re-distribute the laundry . – Select the programme "Spin".
What to do, if . . . Cause . . . Remedy . . . . . . the mac hine shakes dur - ing the spin cycle. Level the machine. See installa - tion. . . . the laundry has not been spun satisfactorily The spin speed selected was too low . Select a higher spin speed next time.
What to do, if . . . Cause Remed y . . . lar ge residues of deter - gent remain in the dispenser drawer . The water supply pressure is too low . – Clean the filter in the water in - let system. – It may be useful to select "W ater plus".
Opening the lid in the event of a power failure ^ Switch off the washing machine. ^ Open the fluff (drain) filter and drain the water as described in "Cleaning and care" - section "Cleaning fluf f fil- ter and pump". ^ Pull the emergency release cor d downwards until the machine outer lid opens.
Customer contact In the event of any faults which you cannot remedy yourself please contact – Y our Miele dealer or – Y our nearest Miele Service Depart - ment (see back cover for the ad - dress).
Installation surface A concrete floor is the most suitable in - stallation surface for a washing ma - chine, being far less prone to vibration during the spin cycle than wooden floorboards or a carpeted surface. Please note the follo wing points: ^ The machine must be level and se - curely positioned.
Removing the transit fitting ^ Unscrew the 4 outer scr ews marked A completely . ^ Unscrew the 4 scr ews marked B . These screws must then be left on the transit bars. ^ Remove the transit bars. ^ Plug the 4 large holes with the caps supplied. The transit fitting together with screws should be stor ed in a safe place for future use.
Connection to water supply The machine should be connected to a mains water supply in accordance with standard r egulations. In Germany the washing machine is not requir ed to have a non-return valve as it has been designed to comply with the relevant German DIN standard.
Connection to the drainage system The machine drains via a drain pump with a delivery head of 1 metre. The drain hose is 1.5 m long. It must not be kinked as this restricts drainage. The swivel elbow at the end of the hose can be turned in either direction, or can be detached if requir ed, with a sharp twist and pull.
Electrical connection U .K. All electrical work should be carried out only by a suitably qualified and compe - tent person, in strict accordance with national and local safety regulations. The appliance is supplied with a mains cable with moulded plug for connection to a 230-240V mains supply .
Non-rewireab le plugs BS 1363 If this machine is fitted with a non-rewir eable plug, the following infor - mation applies: If the socket outlets are not suitable for the plug supplied with the product, it must be cut off and an appr opriate plug fitted.
