1 Before operating y our printer , read the Set-Up Instructions carefully fr om cover to co ver . Use this guide for ref erence. 1. T ake the items and accessories shown abo ve out of the car ton. 2. Remov e the plastic bag and peel off the shipping tape from the pr inter .
2 3. Pull out the plastic-lead strip from the paper feed inlet. 4. Remov e the tape str ip from the back of the printer . Step 1.

4 The control panel has three indicator lights and one button. Printer is ready . Receiving data via parallel interf ace; printing in progress. P ower is off . The printer is waiting f or paper to be loaded manually . (Slow blinking) P ower sa v e mode.
5 1. With both hands, gently bend the f ace-down tra y inwards and inser t one of its tabs into its holder on the upper por tion of the pr inter . Continue to bend the f ace-down tr a y so that it cur ves enough f or the second tab to fit into its holder and release the tra y into position.
6 2. Using the left and right slots in the pr inter as guides, gently push T ra y 1 until it cannot be inser ted any fur ther (as shown in the illustration).
7 1. Remov e the tra y cov er from T ray 1. Loading P aper Step 3 2. Open all three paper size guides . 3. Place the paper stack onto the tra y , print-side up. Secure the stack b y adjusting the paper size guides. 4. Replace the tra y cover onto T ra y 1.
8 Connecting the P ower Cor d Step 4 1. Make sure that the printer’ s po wer s witch is in the O (Off) position. 2. Connect one end of the powe r cord that comes with the printer to the power cord soc ket.
9 1. T ur n the pr inter on. 2. Make sure that paper is loaded into the printer’ s f eeding tra y . 3. Make sure that both the P APER and ERROR indicators are off , and the READ Y indicator is on. 4. Briefly press the panel button to star t printing the Configuration P age.
10 1. Make sure that the printer and the computer you are connecting it to are both turned off. 2. Connect one end of the interf ace cable to the par allel por t of the computer . 3. Connect the other end of the cable to the par allel connector on the back of the printer .
11 Install the printer dr iver to control the printer from y our computer . Y ou can install the printer driver f or Windows 95, Windows 98, Windo ws NT 4.0, Windows 3.1 or MS-DOS from the Printer Driver CD-R OM. F ollo w the instr uctions below and f or more details, see the User’ s Manual that came with your printer .

16 Clearing a P aper Misfeed Caution • The fusing unit inside the printer can become very hot during operation. Do not touch the area to avoid injury.
17 Solving Print Quality Pr oblems • Remov e the imaging car tridge and gently shake it a f ew times to dis- tribute remaining toner . • Remov e the imaging car tridge and check it f or damage. Replace the imaging car tr idge with a new one if necessary .
