1 1 Chapter 1 Introduction VPort 2140 is a high-performance netwo rking vide o tran smitter. In addition to meeting the basic needs of video feed, many advanced features are included to help you set up surveillance or web attraction applications.
Overview Video Ser ver is a high- performance net working vi deo trans mitter. Its powerful V LIW DSP core and fully optimized algorithm compresses and transmits high quality real-time video over a standard TCP/IP network.

Introduction Product Descriptions Front Panel 1: RESET & DEFAULT buttons for restoring the system There are two buttons located at the center of the front panel.

Introduction Rear Panel 8: COM1 & COM 2 There are 2 COM ports on VPor t 2140’s rear pane l. a. COM 1 (RS-232): This RS-232 serial po rt can connect with a n RS-232 PTZ camera. For RS-485 PTZ c ameras, the adm inistrator can use the Ge neral I/O term inal block’ s COM 1 (RS-485) .

Before Getting Started To adapt easily to different enviro nments, the Vi deo Server automatically detects the attached interfaces and configures itself a p propriately.
Getting Started Rear Panel Before poweri ng on t he VPort 21 40 Video S erver: 1. Connect y our cam era’s vide o output with the BNC vide o input. 2. Connect I/ O devices (s uch as sens ors or al arm s) with VPort’s GP IO Terminal Block. 3. Connect the hub or switch on the LAN to the VPort’s 10/100 Mbps Ethernet p ort.
Powering on the VPort 2140 Video Server First, make sure that all cables are co rrectly and firmly connected, and t hen turn on the cameras, sensors, and al arm devices. Next, power o n the video ser ver by attachin g th e Video Se rver’s power adapt or to an electrical outlet.
Getting Started address for this VPort. If you check Use this IP whenever system boots option, you will not see this VPort the next time you r un the IP inst aller program , unless you have restored the VP ort. As a m atter of convenience, we strongly recomm end that you c heck this option.

Getting Started Configuring a Modem (Under Windows 2000 Environment) Installing a new modem Null Modem Mode 1. Clic k on St art Control Panel Modems . 2. An Install New Modem message will appear. Check Don’t detect my modem; I will select it from a list , and click on Next to continue.
3. Under the Manufacturers column, select (Standard Modem Types) . A num ber of modem models will appear in the Models colum n. Select Standard 33600 bps Modem , and click on Next to conti nue. 4. Select the serial port that t he included null modem cable is connected to, a nd click on Next to continue.
Getting Started Modem Mode 1. Clic k on St art Control Panel Modems . 2. If you already have a Modem, read the Setting up a new connection section below. If you don’t have a modem, an Install New Modem message will appear. Click on Next , and the system will detect the modem automatically.
4. Clic k on Finish to complete the installation of the new modem. The new connection will be displayed in the Dial-up Networking fold er and will be used for modem or null modem connections.

Users can view the image of each cam era by selecting “Video 1,” “ Video 2,” “Video 3,” a nd “Video 4,” or selecting “Video All” to view all images in Quad screen.

4 4 Chapter 4 System Configuration After installing the hardware, the next task requ ired is to configure VPort 2140’s settings. There are 3 configuration m ethods: via we b acce ss, via FTP, and via Telnet.

System Configuration System Configuration Via Web Access System confi guration ca n be easil y done rem otely from In ternet Expl orer via t he Web S erver. There are two wizards, i n additi on to classified categories of system configurations, which provide user-friendly in structions to facilitate th e setup task.
Using the Application Wizard VPort 2140 has two applicatio ns to choose from: 1. Surveillance System Create a security system by configuring the built-in motion detectio n and external sensors to integrate with an existing e-mail o r FTP server , or external alarms.
System Configuration Date and Time The default setting for Date and Time is Keep current date and time . You may also choose from one of the following date and time configuration op tions: 1. The easiest way to adjust the date and time is to make the VPort Sync with computer time .
Add user To add a ne w user, type t he new user’s name in the Username box, the password in th e User password box, and select authorization level by checking I/O access or Camera cont rol . Click on Add to insert the entry. The VPort 2140 Video Server has a total of 20 user accounts.

System Configuration Video To allow the VPort 2140 to show cameras’ video images, check the Enable item for each camera. There are 3 kinds of settings f or each cam era’s video in t his page.

System Configuration Demo VPort 2140 Video Server provides a dem onstration m ode to allow general access for demonstration purposes. T o set up the demonstrat ion mode , administ rators must cho ose the services to be permitted by each cam era. If adm ini strators select the view option, users may use demo as the usernam e to access the VPort.

7 7 Chapter 7 Troubleshooting This chapter describes some problems that mig ht occur during in stallation or operation, and provides the basic solutions to those problems.
Power On Self Test (POST) After the power has been turned on, V ideo Serv er will perform a self-diagnostic to detect any possible hardware defect s. The CO NNECT (LED 2) and SERIAL (LED 3) LEDs will blink during the POST , and will keep blinking until the POST completes successfully , or a fatal error is detected.
Troubleshooting Q: Why ca n’t I watch vi deo from V ideo Server after it is authenticated? A: There a re many possible sc enarios regardi ng this problem, 1.
