1 G ETTING S TARTED Thank y ou for purchasi ng this multifuncti onal product. Y our machine provide s you with printing, copying, scanning, and fax ing func tions! This chapter gives you ste p-by-step instru ctio ns for setting up y our machine.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.2 Unpacking R emove the machine and all accessories f rom the packing carton. Make sure that th e machine h as been packed with the following items.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.3 1 Remove the packing tape fr om the front, back and sides of the machine. * The appearance of the power cord and the telephone line cord may differ according to your country’s specifications. ** The C D-ROM contains the MFP driver, SmarTh ru software, the user’s gu ides and th e Adobe A crobat Reader p rogram.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.4 Sele cting a Locatio n Select a level , stab le place w ith adeq uate sp ace for air circulation. Allow extra space for opening covers and trays. The area should be w ell-ventilated and away from dire ct sunl ight or sources of heat, cold and humidity .

G ETTING S TARTED 1.7 1 4 Sends yo u back to the upper men u level. Stops an operation at an y time. In Standby mode, clears/cancels the copy options, such as the darkness, the document type se tting, th e copy siz e and the n umber of copies. Starts a job .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.8 Attaching Accessories Docum ent Output Su pport Insert the two tabs on the suppl ied document output s upport into the slots on both sides of the pap er output tray .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.9 1 Handset and Handset Cradle 1 Plug the end of the coiled cord of the handset int o the jack on t he le ft sid e o f you r m ac hin e. 2 Holding the cradle as shown, attach the ha ndset cradle to the machine. ➀ Insert the two tabs of the cradle into the slots on the left side of the machine as shown.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.10 Installing the Toner Cartridge 1 Open the front cover . 2 R emove t he starter toner cartrid ge from its bag. Gently r oll the cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribute the toner evenly inside t he cartri dge. Thoroughly rol ling the cartrid ge will assure the maxi mum copies per cartridg e.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.11 1 3 Slide the toner cart ridge into the machine until it locks into place com ple te ly . 4 Close the front co ver . Make su re that the cover i s securely closed.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.12 Loading Pa per Y ou can load approximately 250 shee ts. T o load a stack of Letter-sized pa per: 1 Pull open the paper tra y and remove it from the machine. 2 Pu sh dow n on th e pre ssu re pl ate u nti l it lo cks into plac e. 3 F an the edg es of the paper stack to se parate the pages.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.13 1 4 Insert the pape r stack into the pape r tray with the side you want to print on facing up. N OTE : If you want to lo ad a diff er ent size of pape r , you n eed t o adjust the paper gu ides. Fo r details, see page 1.14. 5 P ay attention to the paper limit mark on the left insi de wall of the tray .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.14 Changing the Paper Size in the Paper Tray T o load longer sizes of paper , such as Legal -sized paper , you need to adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray . 1 After pressing and unlatching the guide lock, slide the paper length guid e out completely to extend the paper tray to its ful l le ng th.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.15 1 3 Pinching the paper width guide as shown, move it toward the stack of paper until it lightly touches the side of the stack. N OTE S : • Do not push t he paper wid th guid e far enough to cause the materia ls to warp . • If you do no t adjust the paper wi dth guide, it may cause paper jams.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.16 2 T o connect a telephone a nd/or answering mac hine to your machine, plug the cord of your extension phone or answering machine into the EXT jack. UK users should plug the cord of the extension phone into the supplied T AM l ead and plug the cord of the T AM l ead into the EXT jack on the back of your machine.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.17 1 3 Connect a USB cable to the USB connector on your machine. Y o u must purchas e a USB 1.1 comp liant cable that i s no more than 3 m in length. N OTE S : • If you are using a USB cable, y ou must be runnin g Windows 2000/X P/Vista.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.18 Turning the Machine On 1 Plug one end of the supplied thr ee-pronged electric al type cord into the AC socket on the machine and the other end into a properly grounded AC outlet. 2 Press the power switch to turn the machine on. “W arming Up Please W a it” app ears on the display indicati ng that the machine is now on.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.19 1 Installing Software About The Software Y ou must install software using the supplied CD-ROM after you have set up your machine and connecte d it to your computer .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.20 OCR Software (AnyP age Lite) AnyP age Lite, th e OCR (Optica l Character Recognition) program, is Windows-based softwar e that has the ability to recognize most charact er formats s o that a scanned doc ument ca n be read and edited with word processing software.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.21 1 Installing Software in Windows System R equirem ents Before you begin, ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.22 Installin g Softw are N OTE S : Cancel t he “ New Ha rdwa re Fo und ” window when your computer boots up. 1 Insert the supplied CD -ROM into your CD-ROM drive. The CD-ROM sh ould automatically run and an instal lation window appea rs.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.23 1 3 Choose the installation type. • Typical : Installs the common software for your pri nter , such as printer driver , T wain driver , Remote Control Panel. This is recommend fo r most users. • Custom : Allows you t o choose the language of the software and the components you want to install.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.24 5 When the test page pri nts out correctly , click Yes . If not, click No to reprint it. 6 T o register yourself as a user of Printers, sel ect the check box and click Fini sh . Y ou are now acc essed to the Samsung web site. Otherwise, just click Fini sh .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.25 1 4 F ollow the on-screen instructions and click Next . 5 Click Next . 6 Select the installation type and cl ick Next . The software installa tion supports two types of setup: • Typical : Progr am will be ins talled with t he most common options and is recommende d for most users.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.26 Stand-alone configuration does not allow you to use any networking features, such as R emote F ax or Remote Scan service. When you select Smar Thru netwo rki ng , you can elect to install it as a Serv er , a Client or both. The Server option allows y ou to share a local fax modem and/or a scanner over a LAN.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.27 1 Repairing So ftware Repa iring is required if y our installation fa ils or the softwa re does not work prop erly . This Repairing procedure does not repair SmarThru software. 1 Y ou can selec t Start → Programs → Samsung MFP 560 Series → Maintenance .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.28 Removing Software Uninstall is req uired if you are upgr ading the software or if your installation fails. Y ou can uninstall the item you w ant using the Windows uninstallShield. Uninsta lling th e MFP D river 1 Y o u can select Start → Programs → Samsung MFP 560 Series → Maintenance .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.29 1 Unin stalling Sma rThru N OTE : Before beginning uninstallat ion, ensure that all applications are closed on yo ur computer . A system reboot is required after the software is un installed. 1 From the Start menu, select Programs .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.30 Setting Up the Machine System Changing the Display Language T o change the language that displ ays on the display of the control panel, follow these steps: 1 Press Menu until “Machine Setup” appe ars on the top line of the displa y .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.31 1 Setting the Machine ID In some countries, you are required by law to indicate your fax number on any fax you send. The Machine ID , conta ining your telephone number and name or com pany name, will be p rinted at the top of each page sent from your machine.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.32 Entering Ch aracters Using the N umber Keypad As you perform v arious tasks, you need to enter names and numbers. For example, when you set up your machine, you enter your name or your compan y’s na me and telephone number .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.33 1 Keypa d Letters a nd Numbers Changing Number s or Na mes If you make a mista ke while entering a number or name, press the W button to delete the last digit or character .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.34 Setting the Date and Time The curre nt date a nd tim e are s hown on the display w hen your m a c h i n e i s o n a n d r e a d y t o w o r k .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.35 1 5 Press Enter when the time and da te on the display is correct. When you enter a wrong number , the machine beeps and does not proceed to the next ste p. If this happens, just reenter the correct number . Changing the Clock Mode Y ou can set your machine to di splay the current time usin g either 12-hour or 24-hour format.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.36 Setting the Paper Type and Size After loading paper in the pape r tra y , you need to set the paper type and size usi ng the control panel bu ttons. These settings w ill apply to F a x and Copy modes . F or PC-printing, you need to select the pap er type and size in the ap plication program you use.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.37 1 Setting Sounds Y ou can control the following sound s: • Ringer: Y ou can adjust the ringer volume. • K ey Sound: With thi s option set to “On, ” a key tone sou nds each time any key is pressed. • Alarm Sound: Y ou can turn the alarm sound on or off .
G ETTING S TARTED 1.38 Speake r Volume T o ad jus t th e vo lume u sing th e On Hook Dial button: 1 Press On H ook Di al . A dial tone sounds from the speaker . 2 Press the scroll button ( W or X ) until you hear the loudness you wan t. T he d ispl ay s hows th e cur re nt vo lume leve l.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.39 1 Toll S ave Mode Using the Toll Save button on the control panel, you can quickly set your machine to send the document(s) stored in the memory during the preset time slot, when the call charge is low ered. This T oll Save mode helps you to take a dvantage of low er long dist ance r ates at nigh t, for exampl e.
G ETTING S TARTED 1.40 Pow er Save M ode P ower Sa ve mode a llows your mach ine to r educe p ower consumption when it is not in actual use. Y ou ca n turn this mode on by selecting the leng th of time for which the mac hine waits after a job is printed before it switches to a r educed power sta te.

P APER H ANDLING 2.2 Selecting Pri nt Materials Y ou can pri nt on a variety of print materi als, such a s plain pa per , envelopes, labels, transparencies and so on. Always use print materials that mee t the guidelines for use with this machine. See “Paper Specifications” on pa ge A.
P APER H ANDLING 2.3 2 Guid elines f or Pa per an d Spe c ial M aterials When selecting or loading paper , envel opes, or other special material, keep these guidelines in mind: • Alwa ys use pap er and other material s that conform with the specifications listed unde r “Pa per Specifications” on page A.
P APER H ANDLING 2.4 - T o avoid smudging caused by fingerprints, handle them and coated paper ca refully . - T o avoid fading, do not expose the p rinted transparenc ies to prolonged sunlight. •F o r l a b e l s : - V erify that their adhesive material can tolerate fusing temperature of 200 o C (392 o F) for 0.
P APER H ANDLING 2.5 2 Printing to the Front Output Tray (Fa ce do wn) The front output tray collects pri nted paper face-dow n in correct order . The tray should be used for most print jobs. Printing to the Rear Output Slot (Face up) Using the rear output slot, paper comes out of the machine face up.
P APER H ANDLING 2.6 T o use the re ar output slot: 1 Open the rear cover by pulling it upwa rd. C AUTION : The fusing are a inside the re ar part of you r machine becomes hot once the machine is turned on. Be careful when you access this area. 2 If you do not want to use the rear output slot, close the rear cover .
P APER H ANDLING 2.7 2 Loadin g Paper i n the Pap er Tra y The paper tray can hold a max imum of 250 sheets of 20 lb(75g / m 2 ) plain paper . F or faxing and copying, y ou can use A4-, Letter- or Legal-sized paper only . For PC -printing, you can use many different sizes of paper; see page A.
P APER H ANDLING 2.8 Using the Manual Feeder Use the manual feeder to print transparencies, labels, envelopes or postcard s in add ition to making quick runs of p aper types or sizes that are not cu rrently loaded in the paper tray . Postcards, 3.5 by 5.
P APER H ANDLING 2.9 2 2 Adjust the paper guide to the width of the print material. N OTE : Whe n print ing on prev ious ly pri nte d pape r fro m the man ual f eeder , the prin ted si de s hould be fa cing d own with a n uncurled ed ge to the machine .
P APER H ANDLING 2.10 Setting the Paper Type and Size for the Manual Feeder After loading paper i n the manual feeder , you need to set the correct paper ty pe and size using the contr ol panel buttons. These settings w ill apply to Copy mode. For PC -printing, you need to select the pape r size in the application program you use.
3 P RINTING This chapter explains how to print your documents in Windows and how to use the p rint settings. This chapter incl udes: • Printing a Docu ment in Windows • Setting Paper Pro perties .
P RINTING 3.2 Printing a D ocument in Windows The following procedure describes th e general steps required for printing from various Windows ap plications. The exact st eps for printing a doc ument may vary depending on the ap plication program y ou are using.
P RINTING 3.3 3 4 Now you see the Samsung MFP 560 Series Properties window , w hich allows you to access all of infor mation you need when using your machine. The Layo ut tab first displays. If necessary , select th e Orientation option. The Orientation option allows you to select the direction in whic h info rmation is print ed on a page.
P RINTING 3.4 6 If necessary , you can set the se quence for the pages to print from the Extra tab. Select the print orde r you want to use from the P Order drop-down list. • Normal : Y our machine prints from the first page to the last page. • Reverse All Pages : Y our machine prints from the last page to the first pa ge.
P RINTING 3.5 3 Cancelin g a Prin t Job There are two ways to cancel a print job: T o sto p a print job from the control panel: Press the Stop/Clear button. Y our machine finishes printing the page that is moving through the machine and d eletes the rest of the print job.
P RINTING 3.6 Using a F avorite Settin g The Favori tes option, which is visible on ea ch tab, allows you to save the current properties settings for future use. T o save a F avorites i tem: 1 Change the settings on each tab, as needed. 2 Enter a name for the item in the Favorit es input box.
P RINTING 3.7 3 Setting Paper Properties Use the following options for paper handling. See page 3.2 for mor e in for ma tion ab out ac ces sing pr int er ’s Pro per tie s. Click the Paper tab to access many paper proper ties. Property De script ion Copies Copi es allows you to choose the number of copies to be printed.
P RINTING 3.8 Setting Graphic Properties Use the following graphic options to adjust the print qual ity for your specific printing needs. See page 3.2 for more information about accessing p rinter properti es. Click the Graphics tab to display the properti es shown below.
P RINTING 3.9 3 Property Descrip tion Resolution Y ou can select the pri nting resolution by choosing from 600 dp i (Norm al) or 300 dpi (Draf t) . The higher the setting, the sharper the printed charac ters and gr aphics. Higher setti ngs may increase the time it takes to print a document.
P RINTING 3.10 Printing Multiple Pages on One Sheet of the Paper Y ou can select t he number of pages to print on a si ngle sheet of paper . T o print more tha n one page per sheet , the pages are smaller and arranged in the order you specified on the sheet.
P RINTING 3.11 3 3 Select the number of pages you wan t to print per sheet (1, 2, 4, 9 or 16) on the Pages per Side drop-down list. 4 Select the page or der on the Pa ge Or der drop-down list, if necessary . Check Print Page Border to print a border around ea ch page on the sheet.
P RINTING 3.12 Printi ng a Reduced or Enlarged Document Y ou can scal e your print job on a page. 1 When you change the print settings from your softw are application, access the printer ’ s Properties. See page 3.2. 2 From the Layout tab, select Reduce/Enlarg e on the Type drop-down list.
P RINTING 3.13 3 Fitting Your Document to a Selected Paper Size Y ou can s cale your pr int job to any paper size regardl ess of the digital document size. This can be useful when you want to check the fine details on a sm all document. 1 When you change the print settings from your softw are application, access the printer ’ s Properties.
P RINTING 3.14 Printing Posters Y ou can print a si ngle-page document onto 4, 9 or 16 sheets of paper , for the purpose of pasting the sheets together to form one poster-sized document. 1 When you change the print settings from your softw are application, access the printer ’ s Properties.

P RINTING 3.18 Usin g Overlays Wh at is an Over lay? An ov erlay is t ext and/o r i mage s stored on the computer hard disk drive (HDD) a s a special file format that can be pri nted on any document. Overlays a re often used to take the place of preprinted forms a nd letterhead pap er .

T o pr int an overlay with a d ocument: 1 Create or open the docum ent you want to print. 2 When you change the print settings from your softw are application, access the printer ’ s Properties.
P RINTING 3.21 3 6 If necessary , clic k Confirm Page Overlay When Printing . When this box is checked, a message window appears each ti me you submit a docum ent for printing, asking you to confirm y our wish to print an overla y on your document. Answering Yes to the window means tha t the selected overla y prints with your document.
P RINTING 3.22 Setting Up the Loc ally Shared Printer Y ou can connect the m achine directl y to a selected computer , which is called “host computer , ” on the network. Y our machine can be sha red by other users on the network through a Windows 2000, XP or Vista.
P RINTING 3.23 3 Settin g Up the Client Computer 1 Right -click Star t and select Explorer . 2 Open your network folder in the l eft column. 3 Click the shared name. 4 F or Windows 200 0, from the Start menu, select Settings and Printers . C OPYING 4.2 Loading Paper f or Copyin g The instructi ons for loading prin t materials a re the same whether you are printing, faxing or copyi ng. For coping, you can use Letter-, A4-, Legal-sized print materia ls. F or further details, see p age 1. 12 for loa ding in the paper tray and pa ge 2 .
C OPYI NG 4.3 4 Making a Copy 1 Pull the document support a ll the way out. F old out the extender , if neces sary . 2 Load the d ocument s up to 20 pages face do wn in to th e ADF .
C OPYING 4.4 5 Press Sta rt Copy /Fax . Setting Copy Options The buttons on the contro l panel let you make all the basi c copy options; darkness, documen t type, copy size and number of copies. Set the following options for t he current copy job before pressing Start Copy/Fax to make copies.
C OPYI NG 4.5 4 Orig inal Ty pe The Original T ype setting is used to improve t he copy quality by selecting the document for the current copy job. T o select the document type, press Original Type . Each time you press the button, the LED labeled wi th the selected mode turns on.
C OPYING 4.6 Red uced/ Enlarg ed Co pying Using the Reduce /Enlarge button, you can reduce or enlarge the size of a copied image from 50% to 150%. T o select from the predefined copy sizes: 1 Press Reduce /Enlarge . The default setting appe ars on the bottom line of the display .
C OPYI NG 4.7 4 Changing the Default Settings Copy options, includi ng darkness, origina l type, copy size and number of copies, can be set to the most frequently used modes. When you copy a docu ment, the default se ttings are used unless they are changed by using the corresponding buttons on the control panel.
C OPYING 4.8 Setting the Time O ut Option Y ou can set the ti me the machine waits before it rest ores the default copy settings, if you do not start copying after changing them on the control panel. 1 Press Menu on the control panel until “Copy Setup” appears on the top line of the display .
5 S CANNING Scanning with your machine lets you turn pictu res and text into digital files on yo ur computer . Then you can fax or e-mail the files, d isplay th em on your web site or use them to create proje cts that you can print using SmarThru s oftware.
S CANNING 5.2 Scanning Basics Y our machine offers two ways to scan: • From the SmarThru softw are: Launch SmarThru and open the Scan Wizard to begin scanning. See below. • From TWAIN-compliant software: Y ou can use other software including Adobe PhotoDeluxe and Adobe Photoshop.
S CANNING 5.3 5 3 Load the document(s ) to be scanned face down into th e ADF (Automatic Document F eeder) and adjust the document guides. F or detailed guidelines for preparing an original document, see page 4.2. 4 Once y ou have installed softwa re, you see the SmarThru icon on th e desktop.
S CANNING 5.4 5 T o open the Scan Wizard, click the Scan Wizard icon in the plug-in bar on the left of the SmarThru 3 window . The Scan Wizard lets you use the following services: • Scan Lets you scan the original documents a nd save them in the Image Manager of the SmarThru system.

F AXING 6.26 Polling a Remote M achine Pol ling is used when one fax ma chine requests another to send a document. This is useful when the person with the original document to be s ent is not in the office. The person who wants to receive the document ca lls the machine holding it and requests that the documen t be sent.
