Be yond the basics 2.2 Getting e ver ything just the wa y y ou want it The EasyStart feature (see pages 1.18–1.20) guided you through the ba sic s ettings on your machine. In the next few pa ges, we’ll cove r other settings. Sett ing u p for scans You can s et three paramete rs regarding how your machine s cans doc uments for fax ing.
Be yond the basics 2.3 Using CO DE to en ter characters Certain se ttings give you a c hance to e nter some kind of identifying name. You c an do this with the one-touch ke ys, but you may als o use the CODE ke y in combination with other keys to produce a wide variety of characte rs, as we ll as regular lette rs and numbers.
Be yond the basics 2.4 Reduc tion mar gi n Your fax machine’s r eduction mar gin is mea sured in millime ters ( mm ). We’ll define it by explaining how it’s us ed: When a fax me ssa ge enters yo.
Be yond the basics 2.5 3. To change the s etting, use the numeric keypad to en ter the desired number of rings, from one to nine. Here, we’ve chose n four r ings. Set # Of Rings # (1-9): 4 Note : If you enter 0 (zero), the machine will be ep briefly to warn you that it can’t accept that setting.
Be yond the basics 2. 6 Setti ng t he tran smission conf irmatio n stam p You can set your fax machine so that it will automatically place a small stam p mark on the f ron t of each original document that it s ucces sfully scans . Note : This feature is ava ilable only for document through the docume nt feeder.
Be yond the basics 2. 7 Pr inting y our s ettings After you have your machine s et as you want, have it print a s ettings lis t . We recommend this particularly if you’ll be sharing the mac hine with other users, who might change the settings for one reason or another.
Be yond the basics 2.8 A utodialer Your fax machine’s autodialer is one of its mos t versatile features . It stores your most frequently call ed phone and fax numbers for i nstant recall — so you don’t have t o remem ber them.
Be yond the basics 2.9 Conside ring ca ll gr oups As we’ll explain more fully late r, your fax machine can broadcast — send the s ame fax to numerous remote machine s (see “ Broadcasting,” pages 2.18–2.20). As you “ train” your autodialer, you may wish to s et up call groups .

Be yond the basics 2.11 One - touc h fax dialing Now that you’ve stored a one-touch number or two, let’s disc uss the e ase of using one - touch keys to ma ke calls . You’ll probably use one-touch numbers to dial fax, not voice, calls mos t of the time.

Be yond the basics 2.19 Rela y br oad casting and relay br oadcast initiat ion Relay br oadcasting is a powerful function that takes a dvantage of a remote M uratec “hub” fax machine’ s memory to reduce your total communic ation costs .
