It is intended to be viewed on-line, using the power ful features of the Adobe Acr obat Reader .

Sharing the Connection 4-21 Configuring TCP/IP on Macintosh Computers The following is a quick guide to configuring TCP/IP for MacOS computers. Configuring TCP/IP in a Macintosh computer requir es the following: ■ Y ou must have either Open T ranspor t or Classic Networking (MacTCP) installed.

6-30 Getting Started Guide If you do not see the Main Menu, verify that: ■ If you are using a serial connection, that your serial por t speed is the same as the Netopia 4652’s default 9600 baud, for first use.
Easy Setup 6-31 Quick Easy Setup Connection Path This section may be all you need to do to configure your Netopia 4652 SDSL/IDSL Router. Y our ser vice pr ovider will supply you with several parameter values.
6-32 Getting Started Guide The following steps will get you up and r unning quickly: 1. Open a T elnet session to 192.168.1.1 to bring up the Main Menu. If you don't know how to do this, see “Connecting through a T elnet Session” on page 5-26 .
Easy Setup 6-33 DSL Line Configuration 1. Select Line Type and, from the pop-up menu, choose the type of circuit to which you will be connecting: SDSL-A TM, SDSL-HDLC, or IDSL. Note: If you choose IDSL, the router must r eboot. A warning pop-up scr een will appear before the reboot occurs, allowing you to confir m your selection.
6-34 Getting Started Guide 2. If you chose the SDSL-A TM Line type, select Operation Mode and, fr om the pop-up menu, choose the type of DSL equipment that your ser vice provider uses: Generic, Lucent, Nokia EOC Fast, Nokia Fixed, Paradyne, or Nor tel UE IMAS.
Easy Setup 6-35 ■ If you selected SDSL-HDLC or IDSL Line Types, you can choose Frame Relay as a Data Link Encapsu- lation method. Choosing Frame Relay reveals the PPP over Frame Relay Enabled toggle. If you toggle PPP over Frame Relay Enabled to On, the DLCI field appears, allowing you to enter a DLCI value (16 is the default).
6-36 Getting Started Guide If you selected Numbered, the following fields appear . ■ Select the editable field labeled Local W AN IP Addr ess . The default address is 0.0.0.0, which allows for dynamic addr essing, when your ISP assigns an address each time you connect.
Easy Setup 6-37 1. Select Ethernet IP Address and enter the first IP addr ess from the IP address range your ISP has given you. This will be the Netopia Router’s IP address. The Ethernet IP Addr ess defaults to an address (192.168.1.1) within a range r eser ved by the Internet address administration authority for use within private networks.
6-38 Getting Started Guide 7. T oggle IP Address Ser ving to On or Of f, depending on whether you want the device’s IP addr ess ser ver to supply dynamic IP addresses to your client workstations. Nor mally , you would accept the default On so that workstations on your LAN can have IP addresses assigned dynamically fr om the router .
Easy Setup 6-39 The Router will restar t and your configuration settings will be activated. Y ou can then Exit or Quit your T elnet application. Easy Setup is now complete.
