2 FCC/Industry Canada Notice Y our phone may cause TV or radio interference (for example, when using a telephon e in close proximit y to receiv ing equipment). The FCC or Industry Canada can require you t o stop using your telephone if such inte rference cann ot be eliminated.
3 2. Battery installation and chargin g Before you can use your new phone, you need to att ach and charge the battery . Attaching the battery To attach the batte ry , place it on the back of the ph one as shown and s lide it towa rd the top of the phone u ntil it click s into place.

5 Important battery information • Note that a new battery’s full performance is achieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles! • The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of t imes but it will eventually wear out.
6 3. About the phone, keys and menu Power key Y ou can use the pow er key to: • turn the phone on or off (press and hold ) • turn the ph one’s light s on for 15 se conds • sel ect a quic k ale.
7 Clear key Use th e clea r key to: • delete a charac ter to the left of the cursor • clear all cha racters from the display (press and hold) • return t o the previou s menu l evel • return fr.

11 Entering letters and numbers Curs or The cursor is a blinking vertical l ine that appears on the screen when y ou are enterin g text or nu mbers. Characters you enter appear to th e right of the cursor . Press ing the key dele tes the charact er to the left of the cursor .
12 Spec ial ch arac ters in nam es In ABC mod e you can pr ess th e key to view the spe cial characters below . You can use these charact ers whe n saving names in your phone book.
13 Keyguard (loc king the k eypad) The Keyguard feature allows you to “lock” your p hone’ s ke ypad s o that accident al keypress es have no effect. This is han dy when y our phone is in a pocket or purse. Note: K eyguard is n ot a security feature and will not prevent unauthorized use of your phon e.
14 4. Basic functions Turning the phone on or of f Press and hold the key for one second. Note: If the phone asks for a lock code, see ‘Lock code’ on page 5 1 .
15 Get a stro ng signal When you are at the start sc reen (see page 7) o r in a call, th e strength of the rad io signal is indicate d by the signal indicators on the left side of your phone’s display . These indicators scroll as the sign al st reng th i ncrea ses a nd de cre ases .
16 Last number redial The las t 1 0 numbe rs you dial ed are sto red in the di aled call s list. Use this l ist to redial a n umber you have calle d recently . 1 From the start screen, press to access the dialed calls list. 2 Scroll to the d esired number .
17 Cal ler ID Caller ID is a network servic e that c an display th e name an d phone number of the person calling you , if the inform ation is available. Cont act your se rvice provider for details. If the calle r can b e iden tified, the phone may dis play the caller's n ame and phone num ber .
18 5. Settings This section describes some phone settings that allow you to customize your phon e to suit your pre ferences and that you probably won’t change v ery often. Automatic redial Use Menu 4 1 2 to turn th is feature on or off. Whe n this feature is on and the wireless network is busy , your phone will redial a number up to three time s.
19 Note: The order of the follo wing steps may vary , depending on which dialing sequence your card uses. 6 Enter acc ess number (usually the 1-800 numbe r listed on the back of the ca lling card), th en press OK . 7 Enter your card numb er and/or PIN, then press OK .
20 Clock Y our phone has an internal clock th at can be displayed on th e start screen. The clock must be s et in o rder for call times to be re corded (see ‘ Call lo g’ on page 39). If you remov e the battery for longer than a cou ple of seconds, the time will be lost.
21 Lights If you’re using yo ur phone wi th a car kit, use Menu 4 2 4 t o set your phone’s lights to On (lights stay on) or Automatic (after 15 s econds, lights turn off until the ne xt key is pressed, phone rings, etc.). For information about turning your phon e’s lights on at any time, see page 7.
22 Ringing tone Y our phone plays a ringing tone whe n someone calls you and the ringing option is set to Ring , Ascen ding , or Ring once . Use Menu 8 2 to choose one of 30 ring ing tones. Scroll to a ton e to hear how it sounds . Note: If the ringing option is set to Si lent or Beep once , the phone won’t play sample tones.
23 Quick al ert se tti ngs Y ou ca n quick ly adj ust your p hone’ s sound settings when yo u go into a meeting, go outdoors, etc. To choose a quick alert setting, briefly press the key , scroll to the setting you want, then p ress OK . Tip: Instead of usin g the scroll keys, you ca n press the key repeated ly to scrol l through thi s menu.
24 For more in formation on v oice ma il, see ‘Voice messages’ on page 42. Voice privacy Available only in digital networks, voice privacy encrypts the voice channel s o it is more difficu lt for anyone to eave sdrop on y our con ve rsati ons. Use Menu 4 4 1 to turn v oice privacy on or off.
25 6. Emerg ency ca lls 1 If the phone is no t on, switch it on. 2 Press and hold t he key for sev eral seconds t o ready the phone for calls . 3 Ke y in th e emerge ncy nu mber f or your p resen t locat ion (e.g. 9 1 1 or other official eme rgency number).
26 Emergency ke y 9 Use Menu 4 1 1 to tu rn on this fe ature. Whe n this feature is on, the ph one attempts to make an em ergency c all when you: • press and hold the 9 key , or • press 9 , then press Call . Note: When Keyguard is active , the only way to make an emerg ency ca ll is to dial the emergenc y numb er , then pr ess Call .
27 7. Adva nced func tions Network feature sett ing Call forwarding, call waiting, and send own num ber are network s ervices ava ilable through y our service provider . These features do not appear in your ph one’s Network serv ice s menu until you save the re lated featur e code(s) given to you by your service provider .
28 In-call menu When yo u are in a call, the fu nction of the Navi™ ke y is En d . Howeve r , you r phone has a n in-call m enu that allow s you to perform several fu nctions w hile in a call. To use the in-c all menu , press w hile y ou ar e in a call, t hen pr ess Options .
29 Endi ng c all s Press End or select End from the in-c all menu . Note: The wireless network does not support ending individual calls when more than one call is in progress. Call wa iting Call wait ing is a netw ork servic e that allow s you to re ceive an incoming call when you’re already in a call.
30 Cancelli ng ca ll waitin g: menu meth od Y ou can save the code for cancelling call wa iting given by your service provider and then use th e Menu 4 4 4 2 to cancel call waiting. Se e ‘Adding feature cancellation code s to the menu’ on page 27.
31 Menu me thod Y ou can sav e the code for c ancelling call forwarding and then use th e me nu to canc el call forw arding. Se e ‘Adding feature cancellation codes to t he menu’ on page 27. 1-touch dialing This feature a llows you to make p hone calls qu ickly and easily with the to uch of a button.
32 Choosing your phone number (NAM selection) Y our service provider c an set up your ph one to have tw o phone numbers that are activated in different service areas—for example, one num ber for the Toronto area an d one number for th e Montre al area.
33 Menu metho d Y ou can save the feature code given by your service provider so tha t Sen d own nu mber appe ars in your phone ’s menu, and th en use Men u 4 4 5 t o use this feature . See ‘N etwork feature setting’ on page 27. This feature mu st be activat ed before each c all.
34 If you choose Manual , your phone displays a list of available and unavailable net works. (Y ou can’t use una vailable networks.) Scroll through the choices and press OK when you reach the one y ou want . If you choose Ne w Sea rch , your phone begins a new search for new pri vate and residen tial sy stems.
35 Setting manua l touch tone length Use Menu 4 2 1 1 to set the length of touch ton es crea ted when y ou pres s a key: Cont inuous mean s the tone s ounds for as lon g as you press and hold the key . Fixed sets the ton e len gth to one te nth of a s econd, regardless of how long you press and hold the key .
36 8. Phone boo k Y our phone allows you to save 100 phone numbers and associated names s o they are right at your fingertips for easy d ial ing . Saving names and numbers Saving a name and number is easy! Just en ter the phon e numb er , pres s or , then pre ss Save .
37 Notes about s aving na mes • A n ame ma y app ear o nly o nce in memo ry . If y ou t ry to save a name that already exists in memory , the phone asks if you wan t to replac e the existi ng name. • If you try to save a phone numbe r and your phone book is full, you a re given t he option to re place an ex isting entry .
38 Editing names and numbers To edit phone book entries, press Men u 1 3, scro ll to the entry yo u want to edit, the n press Edit . Edi t t he n am e an d numbe r as ne eded. Erasing names and numbers Use Menu 1 4 to erase entries from your phone book.
39 9. Call log For your co nvenienc e, the call log (Menu 3) saves a lis t of phone numbers you have diale d, and can show you how much time you have spent on the phone . If you subsc ribe to the caller I D network s ervice, the c all log also records the phone number s of misse d calls and received calls.
40 Viewing the missed c alls list at any time Use Menu 3 1 to view the mis sed calls list at any tim e. T o dial a number , press Opt ions , then choose Call . Received calls If you su bscribe to the caller ID n etwork s ervice, your pho ne automati cally sto res the ph one nu mbers of the 10 most rece nt cal ls you ’ve answ ered.
41 Viewin g call time rs Use Menu 3 5 to v iew t he vari ous c all tim ers. Last call is the duration of the last call , or current ca ll if applicable. All call s is the duration of all calls since the timers were last reset. Life ti mer displays the duration of all c alls for the life of your phone and cann ot be reset.
42 1 0. Voice messages V oice mail is a network service that allows c allers to reco rd a mes sage wh en yo u canno t be re ached . Y ou can then call your voic e ma ilbox and retrieve your me ssage s. Saving your voice mailbox number When you subscribe to v oice mail, y our service prov ider will give you a voice mailbox number .
43 1 1. Text messages The te xt me ssage netwo rk s ervice allo ws yo u to rece ive te xt messages from a variety of sources, such as a We b page set up by your service provider .
44 About the In box The Inbox holds text messages that have not been deleted or saved . U se Menu 2 1 1 to access the Inbo x at any time. Y ou will s ee a list of message he aders. The icon in fro nt of the header indicates that a message has been read.
45 Writing and sending text messages Note: The availability of writing and sending text message s may vary ac cording t o your wire less service provider , and you must subsc ribe to the te xt messaging network serv ice. Please contact your service provider for details.

48 12. Extra features Alarm clock The alarm clock feature is based on your phone’s internal clock and sounds an alert at a time yo u specify . Setti ng th e alar m cloc k Use Menu 7 1 to turn the alarm clock on or off.
49 • T o shut off the alarm, press an y key except Snooze . The phone displays K eep the phone on? Press Ye s to keep it on or to switch it off. •I f y o u p r e s s Snooze , the phone turns itself off for 1 0 minutes , then the alarm sounds again .
50 Logic Find the sec ret c ombi natio n o f f igures in a co lumn . Possible figures are shown at t he top of the display . Press the 5 key repeatedly to select a figure and the 2, 4, and 8 keys to move the cu rso r . O nce yo u thi nk yo u hav e the rig ht co mb inat ion, press the key .
51 13. Security featu res Access codes overview Access codes consist of the lock co de and security code. When you get you r phone, you should change these codes from their defaults, write dow n the new codes, and keep them in a safe place away from t he phone.
52 Rest rict ing in co ming c alls Choose Restr ict in comin g calls to prevent your phone from receiving incom ing calls. Ent er your securit y code, th en press OK .
53 3 If you wa nt, give a name of up to 1 0 charac ters to the restriction (such as Joey , Long dist , or 1-800 #s ), th en press OK . The entry is added to your list of restricted numbers. Allow ing call s to a numb er on th e list If you later de cide to allow calls to a restri cted nu mber , press Se lect to see your list of n umbers.
54 Answering a cal l when the phone is locked Press An swer . Saving the unlocked phone number Use Menu 4 3 2 2 to save a numbe r that may be calle d even when y our phone is locked. You will be required to enter th e lock code . Callin g the unlock ed phone number Press or , or manually enter the num ber exactly as it is saved, then press Call .

For av ailability , see your local authorized Nokia dealer . A few practical rules for accessory operation: • Keep accessories out of small ch ildren's reach.
56 Changing covers When changing covers, don’t use the phone’s antenna as leverage! 1 Switch off the powe r and disconnect the phone from the charger or any other device. 2 Using a coin, de press the coloured tab on the top of the phone and slide the colo ur cover forward.
57 5 Place the bot tom of the cover against the bottom of the phone. Make sure all three se ts of plastic tabs line up with their resp ective slot s, as sho wn a t lef t.

63 15. Refer ence in formation Important safety information Traffic safety Do not use a hand-held telephone while driving a vehicle. If using a hand-held phone park the vehicle before conversing. Always secure the phone in its holder; do not place the phone on the passe nger seat or where it can break loose in a collision or sudden stop.
64 P ersons with pacemakers: • Should always keep the phone more than 6 inches (20 cm) from their pacemaker when the phone is switched on; • Should not carry the phone in a breast pocket; • Should use the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize the potent ial for in terf erence.
