5 SAFETY Read these simple guide lines. Not following them m ay be dangerous or illegal. R ead the complete user guide for furt her information. SWITCH ON SAFELY Do not switch the device on when wireless phone use is proh ibited or when it may caus e interference or danger.
6 Remember to make back-up copies or keep a written record of all important inform ation stored in your device. When conn ecting to any other device, read its user gui de for detailed safety instructions . Do not connect inc ompatible products. Warning: To use any features in this device, other than the alarm clock , the device must be switched on.
7 The PIN code supplied with the SmartChip card, protec ts the card against una uthorized use . The PIN2 code supplied with some SmartChip ca rds, is requir ed to access certain services. If you enter the PIN or PIN2 code incorrectl y three time s in succes sion, you are asked for the PUK or PUK2 code.

10 ■ Key pa d l oc k Select Menu an d press * quickl y to lock the keypad to p revent a ccident al keypresses. To a n swer a call when t he keyguard is on, press the call ke y. When you end or decl ine the call, the keypad remains locked. To unlock, select Un lock and press * quickly.
11 Tips for writing text: t o add a sp ace, press 0 . To qui ckly ch ange th e text input meth od, press # repeatedly, and check the in dicator at the to p of the display.
12 View the inbo x and oth er fold ers The inbox view will loa d the first page of the inbox by default. To go to the next page of the inbox, selec t Next P ag e (the last item on the page). To navigate from the inbox to another folder , sc roll right or left.
13 Notification To set e-mail notifications on or off from th e inbox v iew , select Options > Email Alerts . If e -mail notification is en abled, you get noti fications of new e- mails. This setting only applies to the current e-mail account, and does not af fect th e notifi catio n settin gs of other e- mail ac counts in e-mail.
14 Text m essage s Your device supports text messages beyond the limit for a single messa ge. Longer messages are sent as two or more messages. Your service provider may charge accordingly.
15 Instant messaging I n s t a n t m e s s a g i n g ( I M ) i s a w a y t o s e n d s h o r t , s i m p l e t e x t m e s s a g e s t o f r i e n d s a n d f a m i l y , regardless of the mobile system or platform they use (lik e the internet), as long as the y all use the same instant messaging (IM) service.
16 IM provi der select ion menu When you sele ct IM from your phone menu, a list of available IM s ervices is displaye d. Select the desired IM service to access the offline menu options: Sign in and Saved conve rsat ions . Depending on the IM service provider you are using, these may not be the e xact m enu item s displayed.
17 Return to a c h at session From the IM online menu, sele ct Conver sations . This list displays all IM conversations a nd group chats in which you are currently participating. To view a conversation or continu e chatting, sele ct a group name or cont act name.
18 Exit I M From the IM online menu, you can exit the IM applicatio n, but still be con nected to the IM service. Select Back until the IM onlin e menu appe ars; th en select Exit .

23 Scroll to the name to which you want to add a new number or text item , and select Deta ils > Options > A dd Detail . To copy a contact, select Me nu > A ddress Book > Names > Options > Copy Contact . You can copy names and phone numbers between t h e phone contact m emory and the SmartChip card memor y.
24 To save battery power in the sleep mode, select Menu > Settings > Display > Sleep mode > On . The display turn s off when no function of the phon e is used for a certain period of time.
25 Set up a Blueto oth conn ection Select Me nu > Se ttings > Connectivity > Bluetooth and from the following: Bluetooth > On or Off — to activate or deactivate the Blue tooth function.
26 Data trans fer with a compa tible devic e For synchroniza tion, use Blue tooth wireless technology connec tion. The othe r device must be activated to rec eive data. To star t data tr ansfer, sele ct Menu > Settings > Con nect ivit y > Data tr ansf er and the transfer contact from the list other than Server sy nc or PC sync .
27 Conf igu rat ion Some of the network services ne ed configuration settings on your phone. Get the settings from your SmartChip card or a service provider as a configuration message, or enter your personal se ttings manu ally.
28 If a battery is be ing used for the first t ime or if the battery h a s not been used for a prol o nged period , it may be ne cessary t o conn ect t he char ger, th en discon nect an d reco nnect it to begin charging the bat t ery.
29 Authenti cate h ologram 1. When you look at the hologram on th e label, you should see the Nokia connecting hands symbol from one angle and the Nokia Original Enhanceme nts logo when looking from another angle. 2. When you angle the hol ogram left, right, down and up, you should see 1, 2, 3 and 4 dots on each side respectively.

Rough handling can bre ak internal circuit boards and fine m echanics. • Do not use h arsh che micals, clea ning solven ts , or strong deterge nts to clean the device. • Do not paint the devic e. Paint can clog the moving parts and prevent proper operation .
