3 Slide the SIM card holder, to unlock it. 4 Lift the SIM card holder up. 5 Make sure the con tact area of the SIM card is facing toward the device, and slide the SIM card into the SIM card holder.
6 Lower the SIM card holder into place. Slide the SIM card holder, to lock it. 7 Line up the battery contac ts, and i nsert the batt ery. 8 To replace the cover, direct the top lock ing catches toward their slot s, and press down until the cover locks into place.

Remove the me mory card Important: Do not remove the memory card when an application is using it. Doing so may damage the memory card a nd th e device, and corrupt data stored on the card. 1 If the device is switched on, before y ou remove the card, press the power key, and select Remov e memory car d .
3 When the device indicates a full charge, disconnect the charger from the device, then from the wall o utlet. You do not need to charge the battery for a specific length of time, and you can use the device while it is charging.

Lock the keys an d touch screen To lock the touch screen and the keys, pre s s the lock key on the side of the device. To unlock, press the lock key on the side of the device, and select the unlock icon on the screen. When the touch screen and keys are locked, the touch screen is switched off and the keys are inactive.
To view or change connectivity setti ngs ( ), to see the available Wi-Fi networks if Wi- Fi scanning is enabled, or to view mi ssed events, tap the top right corner (3). To make a phone call, select (4), or, if the contacts bar is active, select Telephone .
Access functio ns quickly Tap and hold the item. A pop-up menu with available options opens . For example, to send an image, tap and hold the imag e, and from the pop-up menu, select the appropriate option. Tip: To see the options available for an opened item, such as an imag e or a video, tap the screen.
Tip: To view a brief description of an icon, pl ace your finger on the icon. Descriptions are not available for all icons. Touch screen backlight The touch screen backlight is turned off af te r a period of inactivity. To turn the screen backlight on, tap the screen.
Your device Device setup With the Phone setup application, yo u can do the following, for example: • Define the regional settin gs, such as the language o f the device. • Transfer data from your old device. • Customize your device. • Set up your mail ac counts.
Content is transferred from the memory of the other device to the corresponding location in your device. The transfer time depends on the amount of data to be transferred. Display indicators General indicators The touch screen and keys are locked. The device alerts silently fo r incoming calls or messages.
You have a GPRS packet data connection (network service). indicates that the connec tion is on hold and that a connection is being established. You have an EGPRS packet data connection (network service). indicates that the connec tion is on hold and that a connection is being established.

Add a new participant to a conference call Make a call to another participan t, and add the new call to the conference call. Have a private conversation with a conference call participant Select . Go to the participant, and se lect . The conference call is put on hold on your device.
Answer a waiting call Press the call key. The first call is put on hold. Swap between an active call and a cal l on hold Select Options > Swap . Connect the cal l on hold to the active call Select Options > Transfer . You disconnect yourself from the calls.
Log The Log application stores information abou t the communication history of the device. The device registers miss ed and received calls only if the network supports these functions, and the device is switched on and within the network service area.
Monitor all communication event s In the general log, you can view information on communication events, such as voice calls, text messages , or data and Wi-Fi connections registered by your device. Select Menu > Applications > Log . Open the gen eral log Open the general log tab .

To enter special characters, write them as you would normally, or select and the desired character. To delete characters or move the curs or back, swipe backward s (see Figure 1).

The numbers you save in the contacts list may not be automatically saved to your SIM card. Copy contacts to the SIM card Go to a contact, and select Option s > Copy > SIM memory . Tip: To avoid rewriting messages that you send often, use saved messa ges in the Templates folder in My fold ers. You can also create a nd save your own templa tes. Messaging contains the following folders: Inbox — Receive d messages, except e -mail and cell broadcast messages.
Send a text or multimedia message Select New mess age . Send an audio or e-mail message Select Options > Create message , an d the relevant option. Select recipie nts or groups from the contacts list Select from the toolbar. Enter the numb er or e-mail address manually Tap the To field.

Web service messages are notifications (for example, news headlines), and may contain a text message or a link. For availability a n d subscription, contact your service provider. Set up your e-mail To set up your e-mail, select Menu > Messaging and Mailbox .
Open the mail box Select Menu > Messaging and a mailbox. When you open the mailbox, the device a sks if you want to connect to the mailbox. Connect to your mail box and retrieve ne w e-mail headers or messages Select Yes . When you view mes sages onlin e, you ar e continuously connected to a remote mailbox using a data connection.
Setting the device to retrieve e-mail automa ti cally may involve the transmission of large amounts of data through your service provid er's network. Contact your s ervice provider for information about data transmissio n charges. Delete e-mail messages Select Menu > Messaging and a mailbox.
Mail for Exchange can be set up only if yo ur company has Micr osoft Exchange Serv er. In addition, your company's IT administrator must have acti vated Mail for Exchange for your account.
Messagin g settin gs The settings may be preconfigured in your de vice, or you may receiv e them in a message. To enter settings manually, fi ll in all fields marked with Must be defined or an asterisk.

You can also sync y our contacts, calenda r, and other content betw een your Nokia device and Ovi. Your important information is stored and kept up to date both in your devi ce and on the web. With Ovi Contacts, you can make your contacts list dynamic and be confident that your contacts are stored in Ovi.
Create a Nokia account 1 Select Ovi Chat , and when prompted, connect to the internet. 2 Enter the required infor mation. 3 In the M y Profile view, enter your profil e information. It is mandatory that you provide your first and last name. 4 Select Done .
Profiles You can use profiles to set and customiz e the ringing tones, message alert tones, and other tones for different events, enviro nments, or caller groups. The name of the selected profile is displayed in the home screen . If the general profile is in use, only the date is displayed.
Tip: When listening to music, yo u can return to the home screen and leave the Music player application playing in the background. Create a playlist Want to listen to different music for different moods? With playlists, you can create selections of songs to play in a specific order.
Tip: Music player automa tically creates a playli st for the most played songs, recently played songs, and recently added song s. Podcasts Select Menu > Music > Music player and Podcasts . Podcast episodes have three states: never played, partially pl ayed, and completely played.
The availability a nd appearance of Ovi Music sett ings may vary. The s ettings may also be predefined and you may not be able to modify them. When browsing Ovi Music, you may be able to modify the settings. Modify Ovi Music settings Select Options > Settings .
Restore de fault settings Select Options > Restore default . Download podcasts After you have subscribed to a podcast, you ca n download, play, and manag e the podcast episodes. Select Menu > Music > Podcasting . View a list of subscribed podcasts Select Podcasts .
Stations — View sa ved radio station s. Tune stations — Search for radio stations. Save — Save the radio station. Activate loudspeaker or Deactivate loudspeaker — Turn the loudspeaker on or off.

To create a new account, select Options > Add new account . To change the user name or password for an account, select and hold the account name, and from the pop-up menu, select Edit . To set an account as the defaul t when sending posts from your device, select and hold the account name, and from the pop-up menu, s elect Set as default .
You can also transfer your video clip s from a compatible PC to your device and view them in Video center. Using packet data access p oints to download videos ma y involve the transmission of large amounts of data through y our servic e provider's network.
Feed details — View information about a video clip. Refresh list — Refresh the list of video clips. Open link in b rowser — Open a link in the web browser. Schedule downloads Setting the application to downloa d video clips automatically may in volve the transmission of large amount s of data through your service provider's network.
Resume downlo ad — Resume a paused or failed download. Cancel download — Cancel a d ownload. Video details — View information about a video clip. Find — Find a video cli p. Enter a search term that matches the file name. Memory status — View the amount of free and used memory.
Web browser With the web browser, you can view hypertext ma rkup language (HTML) pa ges on the web as originally designed (n etwork service). You can also browse web pages t hat are designed specifically for cellular phones, an d us e extensible hypertext markup language (XHTML), or t he wireless ma rkup langua ge (WML).
Web feeds on web pages are usually indicated with . They are used to share, for example, the latest news headlines or blog entries. Subscribe to a feed Go to a blog or web page that contains a web feed, and select Options > Subscribe to web feeds .

Tips on cr eating a GPS con nection Check satellite signal st atus Select Menu > Applications > Location and GPS data > Options > Satellite stat us . If your device has found satellites, a bar for each satellite is show n in the satellite info view.
The GPS receiver draws its power from th e device battery. Using GPS may drain the battery faster. Position req uests You may receive a request from a network serv ice to receive y our position information. Service providers may offer information about local topics, such as weather or traffic conditions, based on the lo cation o f your device.

• Synchronize your favorite locations and ro utes between your ce llular phone and the Ovi Maps internet service. • Check weather forecasts and other local information, if available. Some services may not be available in all coun tries, and may be provided only in selected languages.
To prevent downloading new street maps a utomatically, in the mai n menu, select > Internet > Connection > Offline . Map coverage varies by country and region.
Transit lines — V i e w s e l e c t e d p u b l i c t r a n s p o r t a t ion services, such as metro and trolley routes. The available option s and features m ay vary by region.
The availability and qu ality of GPS signals may be affected by yo ur location, satellite positions, buildings, natura l obstacles, weather conditions and adjustments to GPS satellites made by the United States government. GPS sign als may not be available inside buildings or underground.
View location details Find more information about a specific location or pl ace, su ch as a hot el or res taurant , if available. The available options may vary by region. To view all the available place details, you need an active internet connection.
View a saved place In the main view, select Favourites > Places , the place, and S how on map . View a saved route In the main view, select Favourites > Routes and the route. Send a place to a friend When you want to show your friends where a place is on the map, you can send the place to them.
You may also be able to attach a p ictur e to your post, depending on t he social networking service. View your Check in history Select . Checking in and sharing your location requires an internet connection. This may involve the transmission of larg e amounts of data and re lated data traffic costs.
Select Menu > Maps and Drive or Walk . When you use drive or walk navigation for th e first time, you are asked to select the language of the voice guidance, an d download the appropriate files. If you select a language that includes street names, also the street names are said aloud.
The compass has limi ted accuracy. Electrom agnetic fields, meta l objects, or other external circumstances may also affect the accuracy of the compas s. The compass shou ld always be properly calibrated. Drive to your de stination When you need turn-by-turn directions while driving, Maps helps you get to your destination.
Change views during naviga tion Swipe left to select 2D view , 3D view , Arrow view , or Route overv iew . Obey all local laws. Always keep your hands free to oper ate the vehicle while driving. Your first consideration while dr iving should be road safety.
Avoid traffic event s In the main view, select > Naviga tion > Reroute due to traffic . The location of speed camera s may be shown on your rout e during navigation, if this feature is enabled. Some ju risdictions prohibit or regu late the use of speed camera location data.
Create a route 1 Tap the lo cation of your starting point. To search for an address or place, select Search . 2 Tap the location's information area. 3 Select Add to route . 4 To add another rout e point, select Add new route poi nt and the appro priate option.
Use the fast er or short er driving rou te Open the Settings ta b, set the transportation mode to Drive , and select Route selection > Faster route or Shorter rout e . Use the opti mized drivi ng route Open the Settings ta b, set the transportation mode to Drive , and select Route selection > Optimis ed .
Network mode — Select which network to use. If you select Dual mode , the device uses the GSM or UMTS network automaticall y, according to the network parame ters and the roaming agreements between the wirele ss service providers. For details and roaming costs, contact your network servic e provider.
Important: Use encryption to increase the security of your WLAN connection. Using encryption reduces the risk of others accessing your data. WLAN connections To use a wireless LAN (W LAN) connection, you m u s t c r e a t e a n i n t e r n e t a c c e s s p o i n t ( I A P ) for WLAN.
Filter out Wi -Fi networks from the list o f found networks Select Options > Filter WLAN networks . The selected networks are not displayed the next time the Wi-Fi wizard searches for Wi-Fi networks. View the detai ls of a network Select the network, and from the pop-up menu, select De tails .
Access points Create a new access point Select Menu > Settings and Con nectivity > Destinations . You may receive access point settin gs in a mess age from a service provider. Some or all access points may be preset for your device by your service p rovider, and you may not be able to change, create, edit, or remove them.
Copy an existing access point f rom another grou p Select the group, and select and hold the access point to copy, and from the pop-up menu, select Co py to other dest . . Change the priority of an access point wit hin a group Select and hold the access point, and from the pop-up menu, select Change priority .
DNS addresses — Enter the IP addres ses of the primary and secondar y DNS servers, if required by your service provider. To obta in these addresses, contact your internet service provider. Proxy server address — Enter the address of the proxy server.
View details for a connection Select and hold the connection, an d from the pop-up menu, select Details . Details, such as the amount of transferred d ata and connection duration, are dis played. Close a connection Select and hold the connection, an d from the pop-up menu, select Disconnect .
The available options may vary. Bluetooth connectivity About Bluetooth conne ctivity With Bluetooth connectivity, you ca n make a wireless connection to other compatible devices, such as mobile phones, computers, headsets, an d car kits.
Security tips Select Menu > Se ttings an d Connectiv ity > Bluetoot h . When you are not usin g Bluetooth connectivity, to control who can find your device and connect to it, select Blu etooth > Off or My phone's visibility > Hidden .
Select Menu > Settings and Con nectivity > Bluetooth . 1 Open the Paired d evices tab. 2 Select Options > New paired device . Devices that a re with in range are displayed. 3 Select the device. 4 Enter the pass code on both devices. indicates a paired device in the device search view.
If you reject a pairing request from another device, you are asked if you want to add the device to the list of blocked devices. Remote SIM m ode With remote SIM mode, you can use a compati b le car kit accessory. Before remote SIM mode can be activated, the two device s must be paired and the pairing initiated from the other device.
If the Ask on connection option is not active, or you wan t to change the USB mode during an active connection, select USB connection mode and from the following: Ovi Suite — Use Nokia PC applications such as Nokia Ovi Suite or Nokia Software Updater.
SIP settings Session Initiation Prot ocol (SIP) settings are needed fo r certain network services using SIP. You may receive the settin gs in a special text message from y our service provider. You can view, delete, or create thes e setting profiles in SIP settings.
To change the d efault se arch provider, select Options > Settings > Search services . To change the country or region setting, to find more sea rch providers, sele ct Option s > Setti ngs > Country or region . Other applications Clock Set time and da te Select Menu > Applications > Clock .
Change the alarm tone Select Options > Settings > Clock alarm tone . World clock With the world clock, you can view th e current time in di fferent locations. Select Menu > A pplications > Clock . View the time Select Worl d clock . Add locations to the list Select Options > Add location .
New meeting — Add a new meeting reminder. New to-do note — Create a new to-do entry. File manager About File manager Select Menu > Applications > Office > File mgr. . With File manager, you ca n browse, manage , and open files on your device or a compatible external drive.

If you remo ve an applicat ion, yo u can only reinstall it if you have the original installation file or a full backup of the removed applicatio n. You may not be able to open files created with a removed appl ication. If an installed application depends on a re moved application, the installed application may stop working.
Play a video Select Menu > Applications > RealPlayer . Play a video Select Video clips and a video. List recently played files In the main view, select Recently played . Go to a video, and select Options and from the following: Use video cli p — Assign a video to a contact or set it as a ringing tone.
Listen to the sound clip Select . Send a sound clip as a message Select Options > Send . Record a telephone conve rsation Open the recorder during a voice call, and select . Both parties hear a tone at regular intervals during recording. Select the recording qua lity or where to save sound clips Select Options > Settings .
To translate words from one language to anothe r, enter text in the search field. As you enter text, suggestions of words to transla t e are displayed. To translate a word, select the word from the list. All languages may not be supported. Select Options and from the following: Listen — Listen to the selected word.
Change language You can change the device language and the language in which you write your messages and mails. You can also activa te predictive text input. Select Menu > Se ttings an d Phone > Language . Change th e device la nguage Select Phone language .
Delete a comma nd Select and hold the application or profile the command is assigned to, and from the pop-up menu, select Remove . Accessory setting s Select Menu > Settings and Pho ne > Accessories . Some accessory connectors indicate which type of accessory is connected to the device.

Certificates should also be us ed when you want to reduce the risk of viruses or other malicious softwa re and be sure of the auth enticity of software when downloading an d installing software. Select Menu > Settings and Pho ne > Phone mgmt. > Security > Certificat e managemen t and select the desired certificate type.
Digital rights management Content owners may use different type s of digital rights manage ment (DRM) technologies to protect their intellectual prop erty, including copyrights. This device use s various types of DRM softw are to access DR M-protected content.
Reject call with message — Send a text message when you reject a call, informing the caller why you could not answer the call. Message text — Write the standard text message that is sent when you reject a call. Automatic re dial — Set your device to make a maxi mum of 10 attempts to connect the call after an unsuccessful call a ttempt.
Restrict anonymou s internet cal ls Select Anonymous cal l barring . Protect the environment Save energy You do not need to charge your battery so often if you do the following: • Close applications and data co nnections, such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, when not in use.
Network services and costs Your device is approved for use on the WCDMA 2100/1900/8 50 MHz and GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz networks . To use the device, you need a sub scription with a service provider. Using network services and downloading c ontent to your device may result in data traffic costs.
Other transfer methods may not transfer the licens es which need to be res tored with the co ntent for you to be abl e to continue the use of OMA DRM- protected content after the device memory is format ted. You may also nee d to restore t he licenses in case the files on your device ge t corrupted.
Authenticate hologram 1 Look at the hologram. Yo u should see the Nokia connecting hands symbol from o ne angle and the Nokia Origi nal Accessories logo from the other angle. 2 Angle the hologram left, right, down, and up. You should see 1, 2, 3 and 4 dots on each side respectively.
