Insert the SIM card and battery Important: This device is designed to be used wi th a standard SIM card (see figure) only. Use of incompatible SIM cards may damage the card or the device, and may corrupt data stored on the card. Please co nsult your mobile operator for the use of a SIM card that has a mini-UICC cutout.
4 Lift the SIM card holder up. 5 Make sure the contact area of the SIM card is facing toward the phone, and slide the SIM card into the SIM card holde r. 6 Lower the SIM card holder into place. Slide the SIM card holder, to lock it. 7 Line up the battery contacts, and insert the battery.
8 To replace the cover, direct the top locking catches toward their slo ts, and press down until the cover locks into pla ce. If the SIM card is not properly in place, the phone can only be used in the offline profile. Insert a memory ca rd Use only compatible memo ry cards approved by Nokia for use with this device.
2 Make sure the contact area of a compatible memory card is facing down, and insert the card into the memory card slot. 3 Push the card in, until it locks i nto place. 4 Replace the back cover. Remove the memory card Important: Do not remove the memory card when an app is using it.
3W h e n Remove memory card and press 'OK' is displayed, remove the back cover of the device, and push the card in, until you hear a click. 4 Pull out the memory card, and replace the back cover.
Charge from a US B device You can use USB charging when a wall outlet is not available . Data can be transferred while charging the device. The effi ciency of USB ch arging power varies significantly, and it may take a long time for charging to start and the device to start functioning.
• Sign up for the My Nokia se rvice to receive free tips, tricks, and support for your Nokia phone. You will also receive noti fi cations when new sof tware updates are available for your phone. • Start using Nokia services. When you switch on your phone for the fi rst time, the Phone setup application opens.
If your old Nokia device does not have the Switch application, your new device sends it in a mess age. Op en the me ssage in th e old devi ce, and fo llow the instruc tions. 1 Select the connection type you want to use to transfer the data, and connect the devices.

To view or modify connectivity settings ( ), to see the available wireless LANs if WLAN scanning is enabl ed, or to view m issed events, tap the top right corner (3). To make a phone call, sel ect (4), or, if the contacts bar is active, sele ct Telephone .
Access functions qui ckly Tap and hold the item. A pop-up menu with available options opens. For example, to send an image, tap and hold the image, and from the pop-up menu, select the appropriate option. Tip: To see the options available for an opened item, such as an image or a video clip, tap the screen.
Tip: To view a brief description of an icon, place yo ur finger on the ico n. Descriptions are not available for all icons. Touch screen backlight The touch screen backlight is turned off after a period of inactivity. To turn the screen backlight on, tap the screen.
When you activate the of fline profile, the co nnection to the cellular network is closed. All radio frequency signals to and from the device to the cellular network are prevented. If you try to send messages using the cellul ar network, they are placed in the Outbox folder to be sent later.
Remote lock You can lock your device rem otely using a predefined text messag e. You can also lock the memory card remotely. Enable remote locking 1S e l e c t Menu > Settings and Phone > Phone mgmt. > Security > Phone and SIM card > Remote p hone locking > Enabled .
Make calls Calls 1 In the home screen, select Telephone to open the dialler, and enter the phone number, including the area code. To remove a numbe r, select .
Tip: To put an active call on hold, press the call key. To activate the held call , press the call key again. Send DTMF tone strings 1S e l e c t Options > Send DTMF . 2 Enter the DTMF string or search for it from the contacts list. 3 To enter a wait character (w) or a pause character (p), press * repeatedly.
Reject a call Press the end key. If you activate the Call di vert > Voice calls > If busy function in phone settings, rejecting an incoming call also diverts the call. Activate the reject call text message feature Select Menu > Settings and Calling > Call > Reject call with message > Yes .
1 To assign a phone numbe r to one of the number keys, sele ct Menu > Settings and Calling > Speed d ialling . 2 Select and hold the key to which you wa nt to assign the phone number, and from the pop-up menu, select Assign and the desired phone number from the contacts list.
Make a call with a voice tag Note: Using voice tags may be dif ficult in a noisy environment or during an emergency, so you should not rely solely upon vo ice dialling in all circumstances. When you use voice dialling, the loudspeaker is in use. Hold the device at a short distance away when you say the vo ice tag.
Packet data Select Menu > Applicati ons > Log . You may be charged for your packet data connections by the amount of data sent and received. Check the amount of data sent or rece ived during packet da ta connections Select Data counter > All sent da ta or All received data .
Define the log duratio n Select Options > Settings > Log duration . If you select No log , all the log contents, recent calls register , and messaging delive ry reports are permanently deleted. Write text The on-screen keyboards allow you to enter characters by tapping them with your fingers.
11 Enter - Move the cursor to the next row or text i nput field. Additional functio ns are based on the current context (for example, in the web address field of the web browser, it acts as the Go icon). 12 Input mode - Select the input method. Wh en you tap an item, the current input method view closes, and the se lected one opens.
Enter text with the virtual keypad Virtual keypad With the virtual keypad ( Alphanumeric keypad ), you can enter characters like you would with a traditional physi cal keypad with numbers on the keys. The layou t of the virtual k eypad ma y vary, de pending o n the sele cted wri ting language.
Traditional text input Tap a number key (1-9) repeatedly until the desired character appears. There are more characters available for a number key than are visible on the key.
Writing colour — Select the colour of the text written with the stylus. Adaptive search — Activate adaptive search. Touch screen calibration — Calibra te the touch screen. Contacts You can save and update contact inform ation, such as phone numbers, home addresses, or e-mail addresses of your co ntacts.
When adding contacts or editing voice co mmands, do not use very short or similar names for different contacts or commands. Note: Using vo ice tags may be diffic ult in a no isy envir onment o r during a n emergency, so you should no t rely solel y upon voice dialling in all circumstances.
View, chan ge or remove t he image from a cont act Select a contact and Option s > Image , and the desired option. Copy contacts Select Menu > Contacts . When you open the contacts li st for the first time, the device asks if you want to co py names and numbers from the SIM card to your device.
Fixed dialling With the fixed dialling service, you can restri ct calls fr om your device to certain phone numbers. Not all SIM cards support the fixed di alling service. For more information, contact your service provider. Select Menu > Contacts and Optio ns > SIM numbers > Fixed dial contacts .
Outbox — Message s waiting to be sent are temporarily stored in the Outbox, for example, when your device is outsi de network coverage. Delivery reports — Request the network to send you a delivery report of the text messages and multimedia messages you have sent (network service).
Write the message Tap the message field. Add an object to a message or mail Select and the relevant type of content. The message type may change to multimedia message based o n the inserted content. Send the message or mai l Select , or press the call key.
Retrieve a multimedia message Select Options > Retrieve . A packet data connection is opened to retrieve the message to your phone. You may receive a notification that a multimedia message i s waiting in the mult imedia me ssage cen tre. When you open a multimedia message ( ), you may see an image and a message.
Select Menu > Messaging and Ma ilbox . You can set up several e-mail accounts, fo r example, a personal e-mail acco unt and a corporate e-mail account. Tip: To set up e -mail from your ho me screen, select the rel evant plug-in. Alternatively, you can use the Settings wizard.
Connect to your mailbox and retrie ve new e-mail headers or mes sages Select Yes . When you view messages onli ne, you are continuously connected to a remote mailbox using a data connection. View previously retrieved e-mail messages offli ne Select No .
Delete e-mail messages Select Menu > Messaging and a mailbox. Delete the content of an e- mail from the device only Select and hold the e-mail, and from the pop-up menu, select Delete > Phone only . The e-mail is not deleted from the remote mailbox.

Message centres — View a list of all text message centres that have been defined. Message centre in use — Select which message centre to use to del iver text messages. Character encoding — To use character conversi on to another encoding system when available, select Reduced support .
Message validity — Select for how long the me ssage centre resends your message if the first attempt fails (network service) . If the message cannot be sent within this time period, the message is deleted from the messa ge centre. The device requires network support to indicate that a sent m essage has been received or read.
Change the look of the home screen Select Home scr. theme . Set an image or a slideshow as th e background in the home scree n Select Wallpaper > Image or Slide show . Change the image displayed in the ho me screen when a call is received Select Call image .

Play a playlist Select Playlists and the playlist. Tip: Music playe r automatically creates a playlist for the mo st played songs, recently played songs, and recently added songs. Podcasts Select Menu > Music > Music player and Podcasts . Podcast episodes have three stat es: never played, partially pla yed, and completely played.
Nokia Pod casting With the Nokia Podcasting application (net w ork service), you can search, discover, subscribe to, and download podcasts over the air, and play, manage, and share audio and video podcasts with your device. Podcasting settings Select Menu > Music > Podcasting .
View a list of subscribed podcasts Select Podcasts . View indivi dual episode titles Select the podcast title. An episode is a particular media file of a podcast. Start a download Select the episode title. You can download multiple episodes at the sa me time.
Manage radio sta tions Select Menu > Music > Radio . To listen to save d stations, select Options > Stations , and select a station from the list. To remove or rename a station, select Options > Stations > Options > Dele te or Rename .
— Send the image in a multimedi a or e-mail message, or through connection methods such as Bluetooth connectivity. — Upload the image to a compatible online album. Delete — Delete the image. Use the image as wallpaper in the home screen Select Options > Use image > Set as wallpape r .

Using packet data access po ints to download vi deos ma y involve the transmission of large amounts of data through your service provider's network. Contact your service provider for information about data transmission charges. Your device may have predefined services.
Refresh list — Refresh the list of video clips. Open link in brow ser — Open a link in the web browser. Schedule down loads Setting the application to download video clips automatically may invo lve the transmission of larg e amounts of data thro ugh your se rvice provider's network.
Memory status — View the amount of f ree and used memory. Sort by — Sort video clips. Se lect the desired category. Select and hold a video clip, and fro m the pop-up menu, select from the follo wing: Resume download — Resum e a paused or failed download.
Internet About the web browser Select Menu > Web . Catch up on th e news, and vis it your favou rite website s. You can us e your phone web browser to view web pages on the interne t. To browse the web, you must be connected to the internet. Browse the web Select Menu > Web .
Go to a bookmarked website while browsing Select > and a bookmark. Subscribe to a web feed You don't have to visit your favourite websit es regularly to keep up with what 's new on them. You can subscribe to web feeds and get links to latest content auto matically.
The coordinates in the GPS are expressed using the international WGS-84 coordinate system. The availabil ity of the coordinates may vary by region. About assisted GPS (A -GPS) Your device supports A- GPS (network service) .
Tips on creating a GPS connection Check the satellite signal stat us Select Menu > Applicati ons > Location and GPS dat a > Options > Satellit e status . If your device has found satellites, a bar for each satelli te is shown in the satellite info view.
Establishing a GPS connection may take from a couple of seconds to several minutes. Establishing a GPS connection in a vehicle may take longer. The GPS receive r draws its power f rom the device battery.
Create a new landmark category On the categories tab, select Options > Edit categories . GPS data GPS data is designed to provide route guidance information to a selected destinatio n and traveling informatio n, such as the ap proximate distance to the destination and approximate duration of travel.
Define in which format the coordin ate information is displa yed in your device Select Coordinate format and the desired format. Maps Maps overview Select Menu > Ma ps . Welcome to Maps. Maps shows you what is nearby, helps you pl an your route, and guides you where you want to go.
If accurate positioning is not available, a red halo around the positioning icon indi cates the general area you might be in. In dens ely populated areas, the accuracy of the estimate increases, and the red halo i s smaller than in li ghtly populated areas.

Transit lines — View selected public transpor t services, such as metro and tram routes. The available options and features may vary by region. The unavailable o ptions are dimmed. Download and u pdate maps Save new street maps to your phone before a journey, so you can browse the maps without an internet connection when travel ling.
Your phone is set up to use the Nokia A-GPS service, unless your network service provider has its own A-GPS settings. To get the assistance data to your phone, you need to be able to connect to the internet. Your phone gets the data from the service only when neede d.
If no search results are found, make sure the spelling of your search w ords is correct. Problems with your inte rnet connection may al so affect results when searching online.
Save a route 1 Select Map . 2 Tap the location. To se arch fo r an address or pl ace, select Search . 3 Tap the location's information area. 4 To add another route point, select Navigate > Add to Route . 5 Select Add new rou te point and the appropriate option.
2 It is possible to share your location on the social networking servi ces that you use. When you use Check in for the first time, you can set your account credentials for the services that you use. To later set up ac counts, select . 3 Select your current location.
Synchronising requires an active intern et connection, and may involve the transmission of larg e amounts of data thro ugh your se rvice provider’s network. For information about data transmission ch arges, co ntact your service provider. To use the Nokia Maps internet se rvice, go to www.
You can start driving without a set destinat ion. The map follows your location, and traffic information is automatically displayed, if available. To set the destination later, select Destination . By default, the map rotates to yo ur driving direction.
Get traffic and safety information Enhance your driving experience with real-time information about traffi c events, lane assistance, and speed limit warnings, i f available for your country or re gion. Select Menu > Maps and Drive . View traffic events on the map During drive navigation, select Options > Traffic info .
When you select Drive home or Walk home for the first time, you are prompted to define your home location. Change your home location 1 In the main view, select . 2S e l e c t Navigation > Home Location > Redefine . 3 Select the appropriate optio n.
Change the settings for a route 1 In the route planner view, open the Settings tab. To get to the route planner view from the navigatio n view, select Op tions > Route points or Route po ints list .
• Internet access point (IAP) to send and receive e-mail and connect to the internet Check the type of access point you need wi th yo ur service prov ider for the service you want to access. For availability and subscription to packet data connection services, contact your service provider.
Important: Use encryption to increa se the security of your WLAN connection. Using encryption reduc es the risk of others accessing your data. WLAN connections To use a wireless LAN (WLAN) connection, yo u must cre ate an internet access point (IAP) for WLAN.
WLAN internet access points Select Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Wireless LAN . Filter out WLANs from the list of found networks Select Options > Filter WLAN networks . The selected networks are not displayed the next time the WLAN wizard searches f or WLANs.
Access points Create a new access point Select Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Destination s . You may receive access point settings in a message from a service provider. Some or all access points may be pres et for your device by y our service provider, and you may not be able to change , create, edit, or remo ve them.
Add access points to an access point group Select the group and Options > New access point . Copy an exist ing access point from another group Select the group, and select and hold th e access point to copy , and from the pop-up menu, select Copy to ot her dest.
Phone IP address (for IPv4 only) — Enter the IP address of your device. DNS addresses — Enter the IP addresses of th e primary and secondary DNS servers, if required by your service provider. To ob tain these addresses, contact your internet service provider.
Close a connection Select and hold a connection, and from the pop-up menu, select Disconnect . Close all open connections Select Options > Disconnect all .
Retrieve backup — Restore contacts, calendar entries, and notes to yo ur device from Ovi. Updates performed since th e previous sync are preserved. Unsubscribe Ovi sy nc — Deactivate Ovi sync.
Security tips Select Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Bluetooth . When you are not using Bluetooth connectivity, to control who can find your device and connect to it, select Bluetooth > Off or My p hone's visibility > Hidden . Deactivating the Bluetooth function does no t affect other functions in your device.
Devices that do not ha ve a user interface have a factory -set passcode. The passcode is used only once . Select Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Bluetooth . 1 Open the Paired devices tab. 2 Select Options > New paired device . Devices that are within range are displaye d.
Remove a device from the blocked devices list Open the Blocked devices tab, select the device you want to re move from the list, and from the pop-up menu, select Delete . If you reje ct a pair ing reque st from an othe r device, you are asked if you want to add the device to the li st of blocked devices.
Select the USB mode every time a co mpatible data cable is connected Select Ask on connection > Yes . If the Ask on connection option is not active, or y ou want to change the USB mode during an ac.
You can use your device as a modem for yo ur computer, to access the internet over a packet data connection. Define the access point to use when using your device as a modem Select Access point . SIP settings Session Initiati on Protocol (SIP) settings are needed for certain netwo rk services using SIP.
To search for web pages on the internet, select Search t he Inte rnet and a search provider, and enter your search terms in th e search field. The search provider you selected is set as your default i nternet search provider.
Stop the alar m Select Stop . I f y o u r d e v i c e i s s w i t c h e d o f f w h e n a n a l a r m e x p i r e s , y o u r d e v i c e s w i t c h e s itself on and starts sounding the alarm tone. Set the alarm to snooze Select Snooze . Define the snooze time Select Options > Settings > Alarm snooze time .
Calendar toolbar Select Menu > Calendar . From the calendar toolbar, select f rom the following: Next view — Select the month view. Next view — Select the week view . Next view — Select the day view. Next view — Select the to-do view. New meeting — Add a new meeting reminder.
Password protect a memory c ard Select the memory card and Options > Memory card password . These options are available only if a compatible memory card is inserted in the device. Back up files Select Menu > Applicati ons > Office > Fi le mgr.
Only install applications that are compatible with your device. Install app lications You can transfer installation f iles to your devi ce from a compatible computer, download them during browsing, or receive them i n a multimedia message, as an e- mail attachment, or using other connectivity methods, such as Bluetooth connectivity.
2 In Application manager, select and hold the application you want to install, and from the pop-up menu, select Install . In othe r applications, select the installati on file to start the installation. During installation, the device show s information about the progress of the installation.
RealPlayer With RealPlayer, you can play video clips or stream media files over the air wi thout saving them to the device first. RealPlayer does not necessarily support al l file formats or al l the variations of file formats. Select Menu > Applicatio ns > RealPlayer .
Before live content begins stream ing, your device connects to the site and starts loading the content. The content i s not saved in you r device. In RealPlayer, you can only open RTSP links. Ho wever, RealPlayer can also play a RAM file if you open a HTTP li nk to it in a browser.

Voice commands Activate voice commands Press and hold the call key in the ho me screen, and say a command. The vo ice command is the name of the applicatio n or profil e displayed in the list. To view the list of voice co mmands, select Menu > Settings and Phone > Voice commands .
To edit the setting s, you can also se lect Options > Settings in each application. Device updates With Device updates, you can connect to a server and receive configuration settings for your device, create new server profiles , view existing software version and device information, or view and manage existi ng server profiles.

Divert all voi ce calls to you r voice mailb ox or another phone number 1S e l e c t Voice calls > All vo ice calls . 2 To activate call divert, select Activate .

Update phone software using your P C You can use the Nokia Suite PC app to up date your phone software. You need a compatible PC, a h igh-speed internet conn ection, and a compa tible USB cable to connect your phone to the PC. To get more info and to download th e Nokia Suite app, go to www.
If you forget the code and your phone is locked, your phone will require service. Additional charges may apply, and all the personal data in your phone m ay be deleted.
View how much space is availa ble for different data types Select Menu > Applicati ons > Office > Fi le mgr. . Many features of the device use memo ry to store data. The device notifi es you if the memory in different memo ry locations is low.
