Getting started 22 Impor tant batter y information Use the ba ttery pack only as d ire cted. Heat or cold reduces th e performance an d service life of the ba tteri es. Handsets with hot or cold batteries can become tempor arily out-of-service, even if the batteries are fully charged.
Getting started 23 Char ging and operating times Discharged batteri es req uire 6 hours to comple tely recharge. Completely charged batterie s provide the handset with approximately 8 ho urs of talk time and 100 hour s of standby time. W ARNING Use only the batte ries that Nortel pr ovides or authorises.
Getting started 24 Char ge display The battery charge statu s appears on the display screen. When th e battery is nearly di scharged, the batter y symbol flashes and a warning tone sounds. If you are on a call, approximately 3 to 5 minutes of talk time exists before the handset switches of f.

Getting started 41 You can use your han dset ke ys to enter a number, symbol, o r character in text mode. The following table shows the key to pr ess, (when the handset is in text mode) to insert letters , n umbers, or symbol s.
Getting started 42 Locking or unlocking the dialpad Use the dialpad lock featu re to pr event accidental opera tion of the handset. When you re ceive an incoming call, th e dialpad temporar ily unlocks so you can answer the call. The dialpad lock reactivates when you terminate the call.
DECT system configuration 43 DECT system configuration Use the information in this section to configure your DECT handset to work with a DECT system. This section describe s the follow ing tasks: • .
DECT system configuration 44 Subscribing the handset to a DECT system You must subscribe the hands et to at least one DECT system before you can use the handset to make a call. The handset can operate with a maximum of four DECT systems, for which the han dset stor es the name of the system in a subscription record.

Call features 52 Using Speed dial Use the Speed dial feature to make calls by dialling a one-digit code. To use speed dial, pe rfor m the following step: Using Loudspea ker Your handset includes a Lo udspeaker feature to allow severa l people in a room to listen to a call.

Call features 55 Making an SOS call Use this option to make emergency calls to a specific telephone nu mbe r. When you press the SOS key, the phone sends a text message or initiates a voice call.
